    Thanks to your excellently presented restoration method, I was able to restore a compressed and hard to replace o-ring that was causing my 24 years old dishwasher to leak. You saved me a bucket load of money! I was a mechanical engineer for nearly 36 years and never once did I hear of this trick. Well done for this and thanks again!

    Thanx alot yes this is definitely an handy one to know, there is now and then the orings that is just too far gone and break when you try to remove them but if you can get them out this is an awesome way to breath life back into them. I'll keep on rolling out the videos and they will get really good soon

    You can let them sit in the heated oil untill it cools down or any length of time is fine it keeps them hydrated.

    Will this method also work on a rubber sealing gasket from an old outdoor light fixture that I have? The O shaped rubber gasket has hardened over time since it is from the 70s, and on some spots its squished and bent weirdly.

  • @RamgotterNucleus

    @RamgotterNucleus

    This refreshes the seal so what basically happens is that it gets its original shape back and makes the seal round again with no flat edges ,and yes it will work on any oring regardless of its use and then it will last just as long as a new oring would as you are sealing against all surfaces again due to the oring taking back its original form and shape , I did use this in an emergency situation but then just kept them in and never replaced them with new ones.

    What you can try is to do the process again but leave the ring in the oil till it all cools down ,be careful not to make the oil too hot as you can cook the oring to a crisp

    I dismantled a carb for putting in ultasonic bath. Came to reassemble the ring wouldn't go back! It was too big!! The Interweb said to put in boiling water for a few minutes. Did that a few times and it went back. Apparently it gave up the contaminants, presumably petrol.

    I thank you for your comment just looked at your oil shouldn't be boiling or smoking the oil should just be fairly hot and then you will leave the o-ring in the oil till the oil cools down or at least for about 15 minutes there after your own ring would be restored as good as possible, still running my restored orings to this day no leaks

    I cannot really say that it would work for those o-rings all the o-ring have different compositions depending on the temperature is it works at and the stress load on the o-ring itself you can try it and I'm sure it will improve the state it is in currently , or it should in theory atleast Thanx so much for your support regarding my channel
