    A miracle! No where does the technician show that he consulted the detailed technical manual of this projector, while disassembling and reassembling the projector. The circuits are too complex for anyone, even its designers in Panasonic, to remember exactly how to refit it to the correct ports, without constant checking with the circuit diagrams. The final projector looks nothing like the old machine picked up in the dump. It is brand new! And very careless handling of the lenses and mirrors.

    Btw, is there a restoration video of the Mazda? One thing I really like, is the way they always dump mud, over the equipment expecting creating more drama. Another amazing note, is if they restore a Rolex, PlayStation, or a motorcycle, they seem to know exactly everything about it, what to do and why. Amazing skills and knowledge. Hahahaha.

    This looks like the Panasonic PT-L556U, which is a projector with only SVGA. The image at the end looks like it's from a newer projector with at least XGA resolution, but I could be wrong. (The ViewSonic Viewbook PJL802 looks *very* similar to the Panasonic, as it's basically the same projector, but with different buttons on the top.) Basically, I think the Panasonic was working kind of "OK" originally, then thrown in the mud after.

    I've never seen such a big iron solder such small components!! Something does not ring true... First thing you do when unpacking replacement optics, is to wipe your fingers all over the prisms! Put it all back together and apply power - yep it works perfectly. In the real world, it doesn't go like that! Sorry, but all the electronics experts cringed most of the way through your video.

  • @GGigabiteM

    @GGigabiteM

    Using a large soldering iron is sometimes required when working on power supplies because of the huge ground planes. If enough copper ground plane and solder exists on a PCB, it can suck all of the heat out of the iron, and keep doing it so you'll never be able to melt the solder. I have a Matchless Hakko 551, which is a 150W iron that runs at 1100F or so that I use for working on power supplies. Once its heated up, it cuts through solder like a hot knife through butter. It must be carefully used though, because it will easily burn the PCB and components if you leave it on for more than a few seconds. As for the soldering iron they use in the video, it's actually a soldering gun that's more commonly used in electrical work.

    One question... WHY? I found one of these on the side of the road, STILL WORKING PERFECTLY, and I couldn't find anyone interested in buying it at all. Not even pawn shops or thrift stores were interested, hell they have a policy of not accepting these old projectors anymore. The fans are too damn loud, replacement lamps cost more than the entire unit is worth, and on top of all that it doesn't have HDMI.

    This would have been more convincing if you didn't remove the linear voltage regulator at 22:18, for no apparent reason. You ripped up some of the pads AND traces, using that gigantic soldering gun, as can be seen if you pause at 22:37. (Unless you know *exactly* what to look for, it's unlikely you would have found a single bad voltage reg on the board, just using the Resistance mode on the multimeter, and not having the board powered up to do voltage checks in the first place.) (I used to repair a lot of DLP and LCD projectors, and still do occasionally.) This video could have been just as interesting if you had simply disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled the projector. It doesn't need to be thrown in mud, then repaired "in reverse" in the edit. There are some otherwise quite good techniques here for restoring the scratched in the plastics, etc. (If it wasn't for the inconsistencies, I could absolutely believe the projector could be made to work again after cleaning, and with the new lens assembly. Electronics can survive more that most people realize, if it's all cleaned and dried properly.) But hey, it got some views. lol

    Many videos online show electronic products picked from the garbage dump, then cleaned and repaired. These discarded electronic products are often weathered and exposed to the elements, and contain many wire assemblies with precision plugs on both ends. It is reasonable to assume that the metal wires inside these wire assemblies and the plugs on both ends have oxidized, and even if the wire assemblies are cleaned, they cannot accurately transmit signals or current. However, the repairers have never replaced these wire assemblies. After they reassemble all the components, the entire machine can operate normally, which is illogical and seems incredible.
