Restoration of the leg vise for the blacksmith| Lucia’s Workshop.
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This vise have been lying in my grandfather's backyard for about 40 years, and now it's time for them to find a new home in a local forge. I wanted this vise to preserve the imprint of time and bring benefit to its new owner.
Join me and let's see together what happens ;)

Could not agree more!
i love my leg vices, they are amazing to work with even outside of the forge
I have one just like it. You may want to reconsider giving it away. Hands-free helper. Super handy in your application.
Awesome video.

nice work. For me, I got lazy in my older years: I probably would have pessure washed it hot, degrease, and let acid or electrolyse do the work. Afterwards milling the vicegrips true, so that is usable again. straighten the handle with a torch and only charge the metric bolts bach to spec if possible. repairs with welding I agree 100%! to finnish: Blueing, and cover with hot old motoroil. the carbon gives a nice finnish. As those vices mostly stay outside, the polish would be not neccesary imo. But this would be MY aproach. After all, a nice recovery for the old Vice! Well done
Great restoration, will last another century now, well done
Hà nội việt nam thanhs you .Xin cám ơn

That's the way to do it. Very nicely well done!
Lucia--great work on your restorations (I've watched two so far). I think it's a scream that you do such a good job AND keep your fingernails perfectly manicured 🤣. Your shop is super clean as well. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing with us!

I take daily care of my hands and clean the shop from time to time :)
My Grandfather had a vice like that too. I have had it since his passing, and plan to restore it after I finish restoring his WWII era U.S. Army Potbelly stove.
Una genia .excelente felicitaciones
Great restoration, the vice looks nice and rustic not over done
Brilliant! I have an old vice almost identical to this one that I pulled apart, to restore, around ten years ago. This video has given me the kick in the pants I need to get back to it and finish what I started. Thanks

I have one similar also and was thinking the same thing. This lady can shame a lot of us.
My father has that same vice in his machine shop, it is attached to the side of a 55 gallon barrel here in the USA. I'd say 1930s
Great Job. Good Loock
Great channel, great video. Thank you
Nice job and nice finish, personally I would leave it as it is, looks great. You need to find yourself and anvil, then you'll have the set.
Dang!!!!! That turned out great!
Amazing
Your English 👌😁! You did a great job!

I left it without paint to save the print of time ;)
I always found a hint to its age is the lack of welding. If its rivets and bolts she's old! I have a couple post vice, they are great. Amazing clamp power.
...a "Lucia" manufactured sandblasting unit would be of great benefit in your workshop....
You do such a great job at everything in the machine shop, if you have stuck nuts and bolts you can use bees wax like they use for furniture wax heat the bolt and apply some bees wax it will melt and wick into the threads and sometimes work where penetrating oil won't
Sometimes rather than using a penetrating oil for stubborn rusty nuts You can heat and melt candle wax it is absorbed the same by capillary action, then some tapping and it comes loose. Good job.
Very nice job on the handle, but I was hoping to see you remake the spring. It looks like it’s missing the lowest 3 cm. Maybe that can be your first smithing project since you have the vise. Very good video!
lovely work just found your channel. Have not seen a sandblasting machine those work great on old paint and rust, would love to see how you would make one.
Nice work! You probably know this, but for other people, leave the nut on a bolt with the nut flush with the end when banging on it. Protects the threads if you plan to use it again.

@@luciasworkshop By the way, I haven't been on the forum lately as we moved into our new house in Горячий Ключ, Краснодарский Край and there is a LOT of work to get moved in. The workshop is far from functional. If anyone asks, tell them we're alive, just busy. :)

@Jerry Durand OK😀👌 Wish you to finish all the issues related to the move soon😉
nice :) thanks
Hola Lucia's. Hiciste un exelente trabajo con la morza... En que pais estas? Un gusto!!⚘🇺🇾
Tough its 2 yrs old video,i never seen someone polishing the jaw to miror finish,,it would be great if you just coat it with linced oil or any bee wax or any sort of protactive layer ,these vices look great in the patina look,,,rest its your vice your choice,👍
Ewww, that really hurt at 2:00 when you got the nut off the jaw pivot bolt and then beat on the unprotected end of the bolt. I hope that did not harm the bolt's threads. I made that mistake once. Then my grandpa mentioned that If I had put the nut back on flush with the bolt before I hit it I would not have had that problem. That is my first memory of Grandpa Fritch teaching me things. Your videos are very well done. I would enjoy hearing more about your past and the pathway to becoming a maker in the machine shop. I forgot to mention that a friend in Sweden gave me a very similar blacksmith's vise for my shop. It had belonged to her father who was a friend of mine.

I think she's replacing all the bolts and nuts.
beautiful work! I'm just about to start the same job and like you I like that natural look but for protection i'm thinking of matt blacking it. Nice work though, i'm impressed :)

you should use a drift or a wood block to drive out those big bolts/pins. I watched the threads get bent. It just creates problems for later. Great video!

Super travail 🤗 vous êtes douée 👏👏👏 Pourriez-vous mettre les sous-titres en français pour vos prochaines vidéos s'il vous plaît ?

I have a vise in the same condition as your end result. I too am struggling with whether or not to paint it. Mine will be place in and outside smithy, so leaving it bare with only a boiled linseed oil finish worries me. What did you end up doing with yours? Did you paint it?
Kucingnya bagus lucia lucu kucingnya...semangat lucia kamu wanita yang tidak ada duanya di dunia ini
how do you stay so clean?
@luciasworkshop what finish did you use to protect the vice from rust? I have no idea what brown liquid was in that bottle? Thanks, LOVE the finish as is...
at 9:30 what is this fluid you applied to the vice? And what does it do actually?
@luciasworkshop

It's a linseed oil, one blacksmith gave me that advice. It makes the surface more soft and smooth and also protects the metal from rust.
no , don't paint it . i agree with you . :)
Speaking as a blacksmith that loves the old look, some of what you did there almost made me cry in despair.

Yea it was pretty depressing to watch. 😢
for applying grease I use old toothbrush 😂
do it in boiled linseed oil.
Leaf it just like that
please don't use grease on the thread of the vise all the dirt will stick on it and will destroy the thread. It is suppose to be used dry or very clear oil like sewing machine oil.
Please don't ever wear long sleeves while working near a lathe or any loose clothing. E.g Russian lathe accident
Don’t paint. We’ll done
How to ruin a thread with a hammer. 😡😡
think some one needs to learn how to file
Don't paint it please
WAY overdone! Destroyed its value!!
Fake
OUF Very bad ! You never buff or sand old steel aging ! Unless its a functionnal area where surface finish matters... Sandblast to get rid of rust and oil finish only, this is soooo bad I want to cry
