Uuuu i am sorry but this doesn't look like a hammer, i think You gut your hands on a blacksmiths fullering tool. It gets hit by a striker with a sledgehammer. These kind of tools have soft face and somewhat of a hard working surface.

I will use it for work in the workshop where I do not work with anything hard, so it is ideal for my use.
