In this video, I am restoring a very old, rusty French rebel bayonet. This bayonet was made around the 1919s of the last century.
The bayonet was used with carbines of the Mannlcher-Berthier system of various types. He was in service with the French army. Since 1917, at the initiative of the Chatellerault factory, a modification has been produced with wooden cheeks and wider rivets than in the case of plastic cheeks. Since 1918 (according to other versions since 1916) with a shortened bent end of the cross (officially, the model with a shortened end of the cross was put into service in 1925). The bayonet was found by my friend. The condition of the bayonet was very deplorable, a lot of rust, the sheath had a large number of holes. There were no wooden inserts on the handle. The button for fixing the bayonet to the rifle is heavily rusted. The blade of the bayonet was covered with a layer of rust, and deep corrosion was present in some places.

Лет 20 назад коллега по работе приносил французский штык с ножнами ,с латунным прибором. Сохран отличный-за печкой лежал все время. Гравировка на клинке середина 80-х годов 19-ого века. Штык ромбовидный ,на конце плоский как шлицевая отвертка. Длина клинка около 53 см. С какой винтовки-так и не определил.Может Гра,Шасспо-тогда систем полно было.

А это не шпага случайно ,а то для штык ножа длинновата будет

Bro I will answer your questions. 1. Bayonets did not burn until the 1930s. 2. The handle was covered with paint at that time for camouflage. In my restoration videos, I try to keep the appearance of objects 100% identical to the period to which they belonged.

@@AnDIY_Handmade_Restoration what do you mean with did not burn, I don't understand, you can see on internet how this bayonet is blued, and about number 2, how you can know if this bayonet was painted like that, in internet I can't see another one painted like this and I am pretty sure that it would look more original blued and without painting

@@Sillu About the bluing contraption, this is a French bayonet. France in the flesh until its defeat in the 1930s. Did not burn bayonets. This is also indicated in the production regulations. I use technical literature in my work, as I have a very large library in this area. So the issue with burnishing is unequivocally closed. Regarding painting, there was even an order that all the details on the uniform and weapons should be covered with paint in order to remove the shine and not disguise the fighter, as was the case with the Germans and the French.
Хотя покраска и приближает к оригиналу , но не покраска смотрелась-бы особенно привлекательнее и эстетичнее , особенно рукоять . Но , как говорится : «На вкус и цвет - товарищей нет» ! Автору Респект !!!
