Restoration of a $7000 Rolex Datejust - Rare Vintage Rolex Logo-Dial - Rusty Caliber 3135

Ойын-сауық

This time I´m restoring a vintage Rolex Datejust from 1991.
It´s powered by the famous Rolex 3135 automatic-movement and it has one of those rare Rolex-Logo-Dials. Watches with those dials are hard to find and prices reach easily 7000$ or more.
Unfortunately water had entered the watch in the past.
The movement is rusty and not working, the glass is broken, the crown snapped off, the hands and the dial are dirty and the case and bracelet are over and over with scratches.
I need to clean everything up, polish and re-brush the case-parts. Some parts are beyond repair so I need to replace the glass, crown, crown-tube and some other movement-parts.
After everything is cleaned and polished, I can re-assemble the movement with some fresh oil. After that, this watch is in a fantastic beat (+0 seconds per day) again.
I hope you liked this restoration, if so, like, comment and subscribe ;)

Fascinating! I miss working with a watches. Never got to professional level(like my dad), but learned enough to “hobbying” around with old watches, pocket watches and some clocks. Watching you working flawlessly, one might get a wrong idea, that its not super hard, just take a bunch of pictures, to remember where what goes- its far from the truth, even the simple looking tasks, takes enormous amount of practice, patience and (occasionally) crawling on all four, looking for a tiny part. So those who tasted even a simple horological experience, can truly appreciate how professional you are. Thank you for a great video.

@Taylo Ren. That's a simplistic and very narrow-minded answer. Expensive wristwatches are purchased and worn by a wide range of society. For example, military personel, oil rig workers, construction industry, as well as those who wear watches as 'costume jewellery', or evening wear. I've had my submariner for over 20 years: I've served, I've ridden my motorcylce on almost every continent on earth, through African deserts to far reaching places such as Deadhorse, Alaska. It's taken some bashing, has many many miles under its belt but still works perfectly. Therefore, with such wide use as I've described above, through many tough terrains, in extreme temperatures, rugged landscape to formal dinners, the Rolex is made to last BUT is not immune to misshap when travel / events do not always go as planned. Maybe the owner was involved in a serious incident, that wasn't his/her fault, who knows! Anyway, the point is that it is entirely possible that this watch has had a tough life, so to say that someone, "...can take such poor care of a watch to begin with!...) is just guesswork on your part. No offence intended but please feel free to broaden your mind.

Just to give my two cents on how to get to this condition: My best guess would be somebody used the watch like it was intended to be used, as a sports watch rather than some bling just to flex. AFAIK ROLEXes are "work horses" known for precision but also sturdyness and the former owner may have put this to the test. At some time somehow the glass/crystal broke (due to impact?) and also water entered the casing (shouldn't have taken it into the shower with a broken glass?). Handed it in for repair/inspection and company denied to work on this piece, due to the water parts started corrosion and when testing how bad it was the crown broke off when trying to manipulate/make dials move... Then it went into a drawer until the owner decided to sell

It would be interesting to see how the bracelet was restored and the costs involved. Nice to see a bracelet being kept and not just replaced with a replica or leather strap. Thank you for posting another enjoyable and informative video 👍👍👍

The other day I was wondering when is RDR coming out with another video? Wow, if there were no such thing as copyright strikes the Mission: Impossible theme would be perfect for this one. Too bad you had to spend a lot for replacement parts, but what an outstanding job! And your socks will even make BigStackD jealous! Looking forward to your next master repair/restoration!

Fluted bezel Rolex's are so beautiful compared to smooth bezel, no wonder they demand more. Beautiful Datejust

Часы 1991 года??? 😳 Я думал времен Первой Мировой войны. Как так можно носить часы, чтобы они пришли в такое состояние??? Ужас! Но проделанная работа супер 👍🏻

Wow!! I can't believe how much work was needed to restore a neglected watch. Very nice video. so much incredible detail outlining the process. Lots of skill & patience needed to work on such small & precise fitting parts. Just amazing that parts so small can be made so exacting.

It's insane that it only took you 22 minutes and 47 seconds to restore this thing.

Cool video! I have a 1988 model of this Rolex, only difference is mine has a blue Rolex logo dial. Mine is in pristine condition, I had it serviced by Rolex about 5 years ago. It's the only Rolex I own, given to me by my late father, I'll never sell it.
