Restoration - GT KARAKORAM 3.0 95% (NO REPAINT) BIKE RESTORATION & OVERHAUL + TIPS [4K]
Hello viewers! This is a 31 minute video clip of neglected GT Karakoram 3.0 I bought from bike surplus. We replace minimal bike parts and components in order to maintain the 100% integrity of the bike. We maintained the original paint of the bike as it is. Some components are suntour such as the crank and their well known forks, the Suntour XCM.
I hope enjoy and learned some bike building tips!

Для меня это видео является крайне полезным - новые вещи это конечно круто, но я обожаю реставрацию. Когда старой вещи отдают часть своего сердца и души - у меня это вызывает уважение. Спасибо Вам, спасибо Человек
I want to live in a place where GT Karakoram are left laying around to be restored. I love your chill sound track too. Sounds like people are enjoying cocktails while watching your artistry.
Gorgeous final result. Next bike to restore is my 1991 GT Tequesta. You provide great solutions.
I've been a huge fan of this Channel since the fiesta videos... It's good to see You keep the good work and tje relaxing music. Good job!

Classic! 👌
You have refurbished this bike nicely. A thumbs up. But a few comments: 1. Why are you applying grease to the rear derailleur spring? It is not present at the factory, it does not rub against anything, but only catches dirt. 2. For a better effect, brake discs can be wet cleaned with aluminum foil or steel wool. Likewise, the rim, nipples, and spokes. 3. Use a little grease on the thread of the cassette nut. It will facilitate future loosening and prevent cold welds. 4. The carriage of the rear derailleur and upper shock absorber lags also be cleaned with aluminum foil or steel wool for a sparkling effect. 5. You did not use the split pin when reassembling the brake linings? Why? 6. You could easily shorten the chain by two links. 7. What is this tire with such runout? Greetings from Poland.

It's a good practice to add grease on rd spring. Shimano puts their green grease on derailleur springs and also put thin oil on pivot points for smoother shiftings
@patrykwrobel8543
Жыл бұрын
@@sherwinvillanueva852 I agree with the lubrication of thin oil pivot points. I use PTFE oil. I do not lubricate the main pantograph spring along its entire length. I know from experience that it will catch a lot of dirt and the sand will start to creak when shifting gears. I add spot grease in two places where the spring is attached. I have been using this method successfully for many years. And I use this method for clients who I repair and restore bikes to.

Patryk, It will catch a lot of grime whether the spring is lubricated or not, the fact is it won’t rust as easily when it’s lubricated, and shifting will be much smoother for longer. This man lives in an extremely tropical climate, wet, humid, hot. If he doesn’t grease the springs he will have a set of rusted springs very quickly. Most professionals grease the spring with a premium grease, during the build. Just because some manufacturers don’t send it out that way doesn’t mean that’s the way it should be done during the build. If the bike is going to be built up anyway, assuming it’s a knowledgeable professional, there’s no reason to send parts that are accessible out with extra layers of grease, they are handled by a professional who should know how to properly lubricate. Even park tool recommends covering the springs in grease, But obviously there’s a lot of people who don’t and are completely content with that. I just wanted to make you aware of his climate situation and what most manufacturers suggest. Now a big number of mountain bike riders do not like to grease their springs because of grime but I think that in this particular situation one disadvantage outweighs another. Not trying to make this drawn out lol but wanted Coggie to know as well he should do it the way it works best for him. Happy building!
This is the excellence of bycicle restoration. Never seen such a detailed and careful work on an old bycicle like this ever before. Such bycicles are really unique eyecatchers. 👍👍🚲🚲

I'm glad you kept it red , all Karakoram's should be red .... it's like their signature colour 👌🏻🤩 I was very lucky, and got one of the last generation Karakoram's in matt grey metallic colour 😬 I'm in two minds , spraying it that famous red 🤔 Keep up the good work 👌🏻🤘🏻 Cheers from 🇿🇦

Nice video or true restoration. Could not get there with you on the touch up paint to the frame, but it turned out pretty nice, so well done!

The best! Astig, Hindi na repaint yung original designs 😍
Top job.. I'd be proud to own that bike now.
Una restauración espectacular
Great bike. Good call keeping the original paint! Two tips if I may be so bold. Hairspray works much better for slide on grips and I always put my skewer quick releases in the 12 o clock position to protect against snags. Keep up the great vids!

Hello po! Good day! Questions: 1. What equipment do you use in your videos (Cameras & Audios)? I have been watching your videos for quite some time and inspired to do the same restoration videos. 2. Where is this bike surplus located? (If it is okay to know the location). Thank you and more videos to come!

Dito ako nanunuod ng mga bike restoration para magka idea pano mag restore ng bike sayang naman kasi yung bike na binigay sakin kung diko i restore
A very good lubricant/glue for applying handlebar grips, whether they are rubber or silicone rubber, is ordinary hairspray (hair lacquer). Use the cheapest kind. It works as a lubricant to get the grips on, then it dries and sets as a glue. To get the grips off again, poke a rod or thin screwdriver under the edge of the grip and spray more hairspray in, it then works as a lubricant again and will remove old dried hairspray. If you have an aerosol spray button off an old can of aerosol chain-lube, or WD-40, that comes with a thin straw, use that on the hairspray canister instead of its original spray button. This helps you get the hairspray liquid under the edge of the grip when you want to remove it from the handlear in the future.
