Restoration Caucasian Dagger - Risen from Rust
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hello folks! Today I will show you a new restoration project. I restored the Caucasian dagger, which had been lying in the ground for apparently more than a dozen years. And who has already left this world, but hope has not left him. The work was difficult, painstaking and time-consuming. But I did it. Well, let's start the restoration!
First step is to get rid of huge rust growths with a spatula and a vd40. After cleaning large areas of rust, I placed the dagger in a rust remover. After that, I washed, dried and began to clean from deep corrosion with a cord brush and solvent. As soon as the crack was fully opened, I moved on to welding.
The crack was a rotten fuller on the blade. Having welded the seam, I went to the workshop to my friend, where the complement had already welded the crack and forged twice. Not about what kind of hardening, of course, there is no speech. Just saving the blade. During forging, the handle broke off and I welded a new one.
After that, I moved on to the formation of fullers on the blade with the help of an cutting circle and a milling cutter. The fuller cut new ones in place of the old ones on both sides.
I hid the handle in wood, chose oak wood and brass rivets. I also strengthened the handle with a brass clip. Furthermore, I made the dagger sheath out of wood, glued it with natural leather and soldered brass fittings.
Of course, we are not talking about the test, but I returned it to where it will delight visitors for a long time and continue its story. Thank you for your attention and interest. Please share this video and leave your opinion below it.

Радикальная реставрация! Выполнена блестяще,остроумно и профессионально!!!
I never, for one minute, would have thought that blade could be restored! Not only are you an artisan; but you are very brave to even to attempt to restore such an old and damaged dagger! Very well done! Oh, your comment, “I make a mistake, as usual”… I so hear you brother!!😄

I agree with the gentleman from the museum, your work gets better with each project. Beautifully made sheath and handle. As a man who loves blades, each blade I make is like a child to me. It has it’s strengthens and weaknesses. It’s merits and detractors. You adopt other creators children that have been neglected, abused, or otherwise ravaged by time and do your best to bring them back to life. The question becomes, how far gone, is too far? At what point does the child become a zombie, or something other than what it’s creator intended? I’m not a restorer, so I don’t have a valid opinion. But this blade was very far into the too far range. Yet the museum man was elated with it. I would have not continued with this one, yet you did. And you persevered a piece of history in a way a collector could appreciate the amount of effort and talent you put into it. My respect for you has grown. And I have more food for thought on how far is too far? Be well sir. Your friend in the other Georgia.

Greetings! I can tell you the next information. I look at work much easier, with romance. Why? Because the history of my country is very rich in various events, sad and funny, complex and sad. All this gives me a huge interest in old weapons, which in fact saved my ancestors and the integrity of the country more than once. I.e. Georgia is not only khinkali, mtsvadi or khachapuri (one of the most amazing dishes) because daggers and swords are something without which there was no other you know what? Therefore, I give it to you and try to improve as much as possible. It's more than a hobby. Thanks for your attention

@@ScrewsAndTools Romance. Now there’s a concept. I can see how you would be soaked in your cultures history just by watching the flea market videos. American culture as a whole doesn’t care about our history any more. We are a disposable society. It’s sad to me. We aren’t a blade culture. But rather a gun culture. I own guns, enjoy shooting them. The problem with guns is once the bullet leaves the gun you no longer have control over it. You own the bullet, and your responsible for what ever the bullet destroys. So I’m not a fan of them for defending myself in a civilian context. Culture unfortunately is something my country lacks. Thank you for you time sir. You are a very interesting person sir. My life is enriched because of you. Your friend in the other Georgia.
Once again... You have taken a rotten Relic...to a piece worthy of a museum. Great restoration.

It's amazing to see how far you've come, like the museum owner said, your scabbards from early videos were wide and heavy but they are now thin and elegant, for instance. This restoration was insane, it looked like a piece of rust with some metal on the inside at the beginning rather than a heavily rusted dagger!
