#Restoration #BBQ #Smoker #Grill
In this video I will try to restore a bbq smoker.The restoration process took about three weeks.I removed some of the surface rust with a sandblaster and then finished it with rust remover.I painted the smoker with black paint that can withstand higher temperatures.After I was done I decided to try and smoke some meat.I was able to find a 5 pound piece of brisket with the bone .It was smoked for about 5 hours at 275 F and then I finished it in an oven.It was my first time smoking meat and I was happy with the result at the end.
I hope you enjoy today's video.Let me know in the comments section what to restore next?

If you want a challenge, try assembling one of these grills kzread.infoUgkxCx5fHawkK9OoV-ojFrY8JLnZrFwAmvUt . I am a technician by trade and the technical instructions were easy to follow. No reading, just pictures and diagrams. You assemble everything in 5 steps from the bottom up. Step #1 - Assemble 4 Legs and Wheels; Step #2 - Add the Front Cover and Cross Bars to support the frame; Step #3- Assemble the Burner to the Lower Grill Housing and install the knobs; Step #4 - Install the Side Burner and side shelf; and Finally Step #5 - Install the Upper Char- Broil Lid, Cooking Racks, 3 Burner Railings and Lid Handle. That's It and you're done in about 2 hours and 40 minutes. You have the option to pay for assembly after making the purchase - I would strongly suggest that you take it if you don't want to be bothered with this challenge. The only tool I used was a Phillips head screwdriver and a standard pair of pliers. The grill cost a little more because of the side burner, but this is what makes the grill so versatile and popular among backyard grillers. Have fun and enjoy!
Love it!! I had a neighbor put one of these on the curb and I grabbed it right away. Similar restoration but I don’t paint the inside. Just season it with oil and a couple rounds of charcoal and good to go!

---Same, man. My neighbor just put out an old fancy smoker/grill on the curb, so I brought it home today. I plan on restoring it. It looks like one of the heavy duty expensive ones from back in the day. **Now I'm watching videos for restoring ideas. :)

@@moonblink well, as many others have said, don’t paint the inside. At least not with normal spraypaint. Use at least high temp paint for the outside. And depending on the stuff you may be able to paint the inside too, but only if the paint instructions specifically mention that it can be used for that. Otherwise just season with oil. And do a few empty burns. Just to get rid of all the toxic fumes. Don’t throw meat on a freshly painted smoker. Also applies if you buy one new
@WesBland

Don't pa int the inside if you can avoid it. I would put on a heavy coat of vegetable oil and then run it with some charcoal. Keeping it coated with Veg. oil will keep it from rusting on the inside, as long as you remember to remove the ash. Leaving the ash inside a smoker / grill will always help it to rust on the inside faster.
@badeadrian

@@WesBland I need to to fix my barbecue as well...I use to keep the ashes inside...has started to rust...I used to put water on the charcoal after I finished the barbecue... now I've learned my lesson 😃

Well its pur vinegar. But this works only like a miracle if the rust was just created shortly beforehand with sufuric acid (you can even see the stains running down the hood, which would not look like it if it was real rust, also no pitting). Too bad many restauration channels use this "trick" to make the restauration look even more amazing. It would have been a nice restauration even without the artificially added rust. Why not keep it real?

Kinda my thoughts, too. Kind of feel this was a "created restoration"...none of the bolts or nuts were truly seized. Nothing broke.... there isn't even any pitting of ANY kind. It's like he took rusty water from something else and dumped it all over this thing.

Hey, I used to have one of these! Bought it for a hundred and ten at Walmart turn of the millennium. Great little grill, lasted for years and cooked many a brisket with it.
That didn't sit outside to long....none of the bolts broke. LOL. Very cool project.
looked like a brand new grill you left in the rain for a week. especially like the 7 lump charcoal you added so you could remove it.
It’s crazy just by looking at it you would think this was made in 2022 because it has a come in design. Great job on the restoration.👏🏽

You're a genius threading all of the nuts onto one long bolt and clamping it to clean them all at once. Idk why I never thought of that. I'm out here cleaning them one by one like a big dummy 😂

Hi from Fort Wayne, Indiana 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
A firebox that thin would be burned through with any regular use. The main chamber would also be caked with creosote and grease. Looks like it was purchased, used a couple times, and left outside.

Great job on the restoration, but the only thing that bothered me was he cooked on it right after and didn't do a burn in first. That food would have all burnt paint fumes in it. Probably why he didn't taste the food lol.

I have a grill just like that that I have used for 6 years and there are holes rusted in the bottom of the grill and fire box. No way this grill was ever used regularly. Also mine has been outside with no cover the whole time and there was no surface rust on in. So I think this was rusted on purpose for the video, which is why it came off so easily.

I would paint it red and some parts in black. That will be more cool than simply fool black

These channels kill me. Everything is an attempt at visual and presentational deception, with the “plausible deniability” of…, “I’m not trying to deceive anyone. What you see is what you get. I actually restored this object.” They do this knowing full well that ignorant people watching (the vast majority of the viewership) will be given to think that the item in question is much older and corroded than it really is. Another segment of the viewership is more motivated by the “relaxation” aspect of watching these videos because they have anxiety issues or stress. Nonetheless…., the entire presentation is a LIE.
Love watching it, every time. But how did you remove the rust from the inside of the small tubes?
So… what liquid was used to make it rusty? Vinegar? That is obviously rusted on purpose…
Nothing like restoring a barely used grill!
I need to do that to mine,thanks.
Nom! I mean, great resto.
Nice restore. You need a fireproof gasket between the main grill and the side car and the smokestack and the grill.
Next time put some gasket sealant between the firebox and the main BBQ body, ditto Chimney, helps maintain an even temperature when smoking beef etc.
Not sure I would use processed lumber if it were my smoker. Good restoration.
I love your content. It's always relaxing and inspiring. 🥰🥰🥰
