Fantastic job, absolutely love it. Restoring a couple of bikes myself, not sure I'll match your high standards. Not taking the engine apart for vapour blasting so I'll have a lived in patina. Maybe I'll get a polishing wheel for alloy covers though, save my fingers & get a better finish.

Thanks very much. Alloy wheel cleaner helps get the aluminum much cleaner, which is nice if you're not taking it all apart. Cheers

Nice rebuild but let's hope the owner can find someone to install the dual carbs the engineers and designers intended. That's so it can perform as a Commando with its proper acceleration and torque. It would be a lot more fun guaranteed, if it had it's grunt back.

Thanks for your comment though I am pretty sure Colorado Norton Works (who the single was purchased from) knows a thing or two about setting up these bikes. For the "once-in-a-while" sunny day the customer gets the urge to fire the bike up, it will work just fine. We're not trying to break a land speed record with it. Cheers!

Amazing yet a tad depressing ha ha. I subscribed. I’m building an MK3 with zero talent. Took my motor to get done by a guy who knows Nortons. Wanted to help him and learn but guess he wanted to get things done on his own. Cost me a lot for that but I just didn’t want to tackle it by myself. Wish you were based in Canada for sure. Your work is fantastic.

Guy I had do mine worked on bikes and refurbished a Norton. He is excellent mechanic on cars but doesn’t see enough bikes.

You can hear that Norton gasping for mixture when you rev it with that single Mikuni. Idle sounds rough. Do all that beautiful work and don't even put the dual carbs on?

  • @origin8or

Only rough because it’s cold. Bike runs just fine on a single Mikuni, just ask Colorado Norton Works. Only purists care about the stock dual carbs. Thanks for checking it out. 🤙🏼

It's amazing that the temporary engine Bert Hopwood designed for Norton was pushed from 500 cc to 850 cc and out lasted the company that made it. Norton went broke in 1950 nobody wanted the twin because Norton was known for it's singles like the MANX. Customers didn't like the Norton Commando as many preferred the Feather Bed frames which also handles better so they offered the Mercury. The Matchless G-80 500 cc single was also made up to 1969. Great desert 🏜️ sled. They only made 7,000 bikes a year while Triumph made 40,000+ bikes a year and they decided to close down Triumph instead. How stupid could the British management be?

@@frankmarkovcijr5459 The first Norton twin was the 500cc Dominator which was introduced in 1949. The 600cc Dominator 99 came in 1955 followed by the 750cc Atlas in 1962. The first 750cc Commando was unveiled to the public in 1967 and in April of 1973 the 850 Commando was released. More than 55000 Commandos were produced between 1967 and 1977.

@@pdm2201 1 Norton first came out with a twin cylinder motorcycle everyone was a gas because Norton was the people who you went to when you wanted to buy a single cylinder motorcycle with a Banks Norton. Nobody bought twins from Norton which is why they went broke in 1950 and we're bored out by associated motorcycles. I have the book on Norton by Roy bacon.

I take liberties on items like LED tail and headlight, custom wiring, gauges, bobbed fenders, wider tires, custom paint, seat, single carb etc. Hence the restomod term LOL. Cheers
