04:06 Restless Leg Syndrome Treatment To Stop Symptoms Causes Immediately
WHAT IS RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME:
Restless leg syndrome or RLS, also known as Willis-Ekbom disease, is a common condition of the nervous system. It is very common and affects at least 2% of the population. done
It typically causes an overwhelming urge to move your legs and an uncomfortable sensation in your legs. The sensation may also affect your arms, chest and face.
It's been described by some as:
Tingling, burning, itching or throbbing. A "creepy-crawly" feeling. Feeling like fizzy water is inside the blood vessels in the legs. A painful cramping sensation in the legs.
These unpleasant sensations can range from mild to unbearable and are usually worse in the evening and during the night. They can often be relieved by moving or rubbing your legs. Some people experience symptoms occasionally, while others have them every day.
People with Restless leg syndrome may find it difficult to sit for long periods of time (for example, on a long train journey). More than 80% of people with restless leg syndrome also have periodic limb movements in sleep or PLMS for short. If you have PLMS, your leg will jerk or twitch uncontrollably, usually at night while you're asleep. The movements are short and repetitive, and usually occur every 20 to 40 seconds. PLMS can be severe enough to wake you up. The involuntary leg movements can also occur when you're awake and resting.
WHAT CAUSES RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME:
When it comes to understanding the causes and treating Restless leg syndrome, there are two major categories primary and secondary.
Primary Restless leg syndrome is where there is no identifiable cause, it tends to start at a much younger age and there is often a positive family history in around two thirds of patients.
Secondary Restless leg syndrome is where there is an identifiable process driving the condition, so treatment is aimed at addressing the underlying cause as well as managing symptoms. There are many things that cause Secondary Restless leg syndrome, if you would like to know more about these visit the following NHS link: www.nhs.uk/conditions/restles...
Now before we run through the tips that can help with Restless leg syndrome its super important that you first speak to your healthcare professional to make sure there are no underlying health conditions, once you’ve done that feel free to try any of these tips.
As mentioned in the video here are some helpful exercises on the NHS page: www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise...
As mentioned in the video here is a really useful caffeine calculator, the page is designed for pregnant women but I find the caffeine calculator tool really helpful - www.tommys.org/pregnancy-info...
SEEKING MEDICAL ADVICE FOR RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME:
If any of these lifestyle tips do not work for you or if you have any concerns about the frequency and severity of the symptoms described earlier, you may need to speak to a healthcare professional.
Some people with Restless leg syndrome never seek medical attention because they worry they won't be taken seriously. But Restless leg syndrome can interfere with your sleep, cause daytime drowsiness, affect your quality of life and even cause anxiety and depression this is why its so important to Talk with a healthcare professional if you think you may have Restless leg syndrome.
The charity Restless Leg Syndrome UK also provides really helpful information and support for people affected by restless leg syndrome. They may be able to put you in touch with other people in your area affected by the condition - www.rls-uk.org/

My poor granddaughter suffered from this, they had to take her out of school cause she couldnt wake up on time for school. Poor thing.
I sometimes sleep early but I wake up from my legs from twitching as if you caught a fish from the water and is going crazy! As I’m typing this now I’m feeling extreme pain in my legs and I believe this is the first time I notice the pain in my legs it’s currently 3:34am and can’t sleep! 😩
Hi everyone. It's 06:15am 🇬🇧 and I haven't slept a darn wink all night because of RLS. My legs just won't relax. I've got out of bed several times and walked around in my bare feet but that hasn't helped at all. Back in my bed now and using a support cushion to elevate my legs to see if that will do the trick. I am so tired, yawn yawn!

My RLS feels like ocean waves that come and go on a horrible cycle about 15 minutes after laying down for bed. At first I'm tired and can almost fall asleep, but then the waves begin. It's a feeling of this weird sensation of wanting to jump out of my body like some electrical nerve shock that gets stronger, then backs down. Moving my legs, tossing and turning seem to help temporarily, but the waves never stop. I usually have to get up and go eat something and walk around for a while to make it stop. It's a horrible feeling for those who suffer from this and I have for over three decades. I'm perfectly fine all day. It's only when I go to bed. The ONLY time I slept still like a baby is when I had Vicodin on hand due to a cyst removal on my back for pain. It was wonderful, but they can't prescribe Vicodin for RLS because it's a narcotic. But hey, it worked! Yet, they'd rather have people suffer all their lives. Go figure.

Use pyridoxine 100mg 30 mins before bed. (Vitamin b6)). You will rest easy. Has worked for me for 30yrs.
I have tried everything, including all the super duper things mentioned in this video and none of them come close to solving the problem for me. Sometimes, my RLS generalizes to my whole body. It is so bad at times that I feel I would do just about anything to get out of my body. It is far beyond an annoyance. I take pramipexole. If I miss taking a pill at the right time, the suffering sets in until the medication kicks in. That means I will be pacing the floor. No sleep. Sometimes for hours. An additional issue with the medication is that it causes insomnia. Initially, it puts me to sleep. Then it wakes me up. Also, once you start taking it you have to continue or go through a massive dangerous withdrawal or a slow uncomfortable taper down, and you have to up you dose over time to get the same relief. My doctors don't help much. They just tell me that RLS is not well understood. I also have degenerated discs in my lower back and neck and ADHD, which likely aggravate the issue. The name of the syndrome makes it sound so minor. It is anything but minor.

My RLS sounds very similar to yours - 20+ years. I take carbidopa-levodopa (sinemet), combined with gabapentin. For bedtime, the gabapentin works faster than sinemet. Another #1 amazing aid to relief and sleep is a sleep/anxiety med called hydroxyzine hcl - i literally take just a half pill (or less) and all symptoms quickly disappear and sleep comes suddenly and quickly. Nothing works every time, but most of the time - yes.

It helps me is knowing that there are so many people like yourself who feel the exact same way as I do. Like you, sometimes I wish I could just jump out of my own body. I have other health issues which recently put me in the hospital. While there I was on some heavy duty painkillers. It was so nice to be pain-free including no RLS for a few days. I slept like a baby. But then I returned home and it was back to hell. But thank you for your post. Are not alone.

RLS impacts me day and night and is getting worse as I get older. My quality of life is so bad I've honestly considered ending it because I can't stand it anymore. Stimulants actually help me, but it really depends on the type of RLS you suffer from. There's a few mechanisms. From what I Geneve, the most common one is dopamine deficiency, or a problem with its uptake/transfer? (Not a doctor, just a sufferer). But there are at least two more leading to lack of oxygen in muscles. Be careful when suggesting sleep to rls sufferers, you might get a sore nose...

Change the time of sleep sometimes works. Evening is when it comes on full blast for me. I cannot sleep between 9pm and 4am. Impossible! At 4am like clockwork it just disappears completely and a warm fuzzy feeling enters my legs and right arm. Then I sleep like the dead!
Thank you for sharing this information! Do injuries cause RLS? I fractured my tibia spine and plateau, and tore my MCL. I have been waking up from the injured leg repeatedly jerking at night.
Shortly after becoming a type 2 diabetic, I started getting unilateral leg symptoms. As soon as I sit down, especially in a recliner it starts. Had good relief with iron but eventually had to go on Ropinerole.

I can say that I had a similar issue or even the "Leg Syndrome" I didn't know in the past about this issue, I had a feeling to move my leg, not really a pain, I was just feeling to move my leg. Of course, if you will remind or think about this issue the human will feel it more present than it already is if I move my leg once I would feel the need to move it, but this doesn't happen all the time, and recently I didn't have any problem about this.
It seems to kick in for me when sleeping and get hot. 😭
An excellent video Abraham, many thanks indeed. I used to suffer from RLS a lot about 15 - 35 years ago, the only thing that helped was: Slightly bending whichever leg was affected, gently lift the opposite leg then pushing all my weight onto the RSL leg and gently bending it repeatedly for about 3-5 minutes. A little like stretching the affected leg I suppose. That always works for me. A few months ago I had the same problem in my R arm while I was in bed. I used the same way to stop it: Push the outstretched arm hard against the wall, then gently bend it repeatedly 3-5 minutes. It really does work. Very many thanks Abraham, and as I always say….you’re a 💎

It is sugar. Its also carbohydrates like bread and pasta. I have them really bad. If I eat a clean keto diet, with lots of magnesium and potassium. I also take 500mg of bentiamine, with a a multi B then I don't get them. All these vitimines help ro metabolis carbs, or sugar. The iron theory doesn't work. This guy no help..

I find magnesium makes a big difference. I take a magnesium supplement and also use a magnesium and lavender spray directly on the worst areas when the symptoms are at their worst. The combination between the spray, and probably also getting out of bed to go use the spray, can give me enough of a window of decreased symptoms in order to get to sleep at least. I always feel that the name 'restless legs' is very minimising and misleading because I get the symptoms in the rest of my body too, not just my legs. I have a couple of other conditions and always notice that the restless legs/body is worse when my fatigue from those other conditions is worse. I'm also in a wheelchair and mostly bed bound and nobody tells you what to do when the one thing that is supposed to help the most (getting up and moving around/exercise) is something you can't physically do!

I am 59 years old and have had RLS since I was a kid. In Australia, the medical fraternity know nothing about it. 16 years ago, I was prescribed opiates for pain management. This also provided total relief from RLS. I get it in both legs, my right arm and the right side of my face. I have RLS 24/7. I would rather not have the opiate addiction but without it, I would gladly remove my legs or pull the pin. I can not get any help at all in Australia.
Which physician whould i choose means neurologist? Or what ?

HELP!!! I have PLMS and take requip. When my Dr asks how the meds are working I say, "I don't know, I'm asleep." Well. I went t change my sheets and found that my foot rubbed a large hole in the sheet. What do I do now?
Help! Excersize makes it worse. RLS is horrible. I've had it since childhood. I'm 53 now, and it's absolutely horrid. It affects my arms, chest legs, butt...it's everywhere. The movements are severe! 😒 I do take Pramipexole and it helps very much.
I changed my diet drastically. It's got to be the reason. I have not understood what stops it.
I took a sleeping gummy, slept at 10 pm woke up at 2 am because of my RLS, and now it 7 54 am haven't slept at all
I have had RLS for over 20 years. I'm a landscaper by trade so I work very hard I stay hydrated but the minute I sit down to rest whether it's daytime night time it starts. And it's like electric shock in my legs. I am having spasms right this very minute. My doctor prescribes mirapex and sometimes it helps and sometimes it makes it worse. I am at the end of my damn rope

You may want to switch to Ropinirole if Mirapex doesn’t work

I understand how you feel. I did not know what it was but I have had it since I was 18 at least. Telling your healthcare doctor does not help. They do not understand nor care how bad it is. No tests just give you something to shut you up. If you have not hada this or lived with someone who does, you can't understand how bad it is.
I take tramadol for my restlesslegs and i can sleep very well now, almost 2 decades i suffer this restlesslegs but now i can sleep all night

I had the same problem on a flight to Europe. Thankfully, I could switch places with my husband and stretch out in the aisle.

I just want to go on record and say I have it in my toes especially at night. What helps me is cracking my toes. After I crack my toes it goes away, weird isn't it? Anyone else try cracking and it helping?

@Doubled Over Fist Whatever works to relieve it for you is exactly the thing to do!!
Sleeping too much also causes restless leg syndrome.
This is anecdotal but cutting carbs drastically improves rls for me within a day
Try no sugar from midday on ..no foods with sugar ..if i have it now i can always trace it to sugar intake . Good luck
Does it feel like your legs contract and just won't relax?
It’s occurs in start of sleep and stopes to be in deep sleep. Thus sleep in intervals , some time you are suffering from PLMD / RSL in sleep and for some time you sleep and this whole continues whole night. So need a medicine which suddenly falls you in deep sleep. What do u think ?
I am in my 60’s, years ago my grandma would walk around the house at night and during the afternoon and evening she would sit and just rub her legs. Now we know why. My Mom and family didn’t realize what the problem was, and didn’t think of talking to the doctor. Now still at my age I am on 2 medications, sometimes I have to double up on the dose. My doctor doesn’t believe me. She wants me to take one pill a day, if I need it. Needless to say I did tell her different. She still says try it. I know exactly what will happen
So my work is my exercise. I am extremely active at least four times sometimes 5 during the week. I do stretch, but maybe not as much as I should be. I'm in my forties and only recently have experienced restless leg syndrome really affecting my ability to sleep at night. I think it's because I'm doing too much possibly. Feels like my nerves are tapped.
I don't know why but if i push a bit under my left foot, it kinda goes away! But i can't hold my hand to my feet and sleep at the same time
So what is the cause of RLS? What is the root problem?
Exercise, sleep = we have no fucking idea,

Nobody has a clue! Everyone that has the condition has tried exercising, massage, sleep pattern change, hot cold compresses! Nothing actually works! It sucks!
I have it and it is the absolute worst annoying feeling.... especially when your mind wants to shut off, but your body will not allow it. And you get constant movement, tossing and turning, and flipping thr bed sheets with your legs
help me im 11 years old and i just woke up and my leg keeps moving so much its moves urgently il try this my keeps saying nah its noting but my leg wants to move so bad il try to do this my moms dad had it
It always feel as if I have to stretch & there so achy I usually sleep with a heating pad between my legs that some what helps
The best way I have to describe the feeling is bones in my legs itch.
RLS was driving me bats. Did two things and the condition pretty much vanished: 1) gave up sleep aids, and 2) two banana's (not over-ripe) a day. Am good to go. Am 66 y.o.
I live in America, have severe RLS and can't get my doctor to take it seriously. She can't be bothered.
I don’t have any physical symptoms. I just feel like I wanna to wiggle my foot. Think this might just be anxiety but idk
Just started hydrox for it. I have saphenous vein reflux and a history of vascular problems. It’s become horrible at night. Bad leg cramps. I hate to bother my doc with this new problem.
Anyone know if CBD can help? I have to smoke so I am in another world before i go sleep so I dont feel it as much.
