Hello Steve, we love your channel! My wife of 54 years and I haven't missed a video in the last month- we are new to book tubes. However, between you and Michael K Vaughn, the interest is back into reading. Reading and rereading the classics again now. My go to books has always been historical novels based on the Revolutionary era and of course the great Zane Grey westerns that I grew up on. By the way, keep your bookcase! It must be full of memories of people places and events that you may have known if you pull out an old book and thumb through it. Dave from Maine

I'm currently reading the first in Elmer Kelton's Texas series - The Buckskin Line, it's a brilliant story and written in a great style. I was so impressed that even though I'm only halfway through I have already ordered the next two in the series.

This was awesome! Thanks! I was particularly happy to see Warlock and Bloody Season. Epitaph is one I’ll read after I read Doc. Of course I’m really looking forward to Lonesome Dove. Great video!

We should do a discussion video together to kick things off! I bet if we had four hosts together in one video, the result would be so tedious NOBODY would watch it! That's a goal right there!

I’ve enjoyed a number of these, particularly True Grit, Epitaph, Bloody Season, Lonesome Dove, and all things Elmore Leonard! Do you enjoy any of McMurtry’s other westerns? Looking forward to a month on the range. Cheers, Jack

This is a great list Steve! Do you have a top 5 western film list?

L’Amour and Kelton were well known for research. Your list was great.

You like Kelton too? That's another big draw to read him!

You are not alone, I did not like I am Legend either. Too short, I finished the book and said “that’s it?”

Very nice list, I'm looking forward to reading Lonesome Dove again. Sweet Frieda looks exhausted.

You are right about sentiment and Westerns, both my father and grandfather were avid Western fans. They both read lots of other stuff, but Westerns were a theme they both liked. Strange how a Scottish sailor and Polish Jew both shared a love of the Old West. I shall read " Lonesome Dove" as I have a full reading list for June, but hopefully this will become an annual event. I have listed your and Mi hael's recommendations for future use.

If you kept the Westerns collection from Library of America, I think Warlock is one of the stories in it. It’s on my list to buy at some point for sure.

Wow sounds like Michael’s top 10 westerns video would have scored really high on a Has Steve Read it Challenge.

I enjoyed the Cohen brothers film of True Grit so much more than the John Wayne version. The language in the book and films is truly powerful!

I’m not sure this is what you’re actually doing - but I’m picturing you only reading Louis L’Amour books for a week and trying to figure out how many you would get through. All of them?

Try Glendon Swarthout's OLD COLTS. That was an interesting western.

A terrific list. I haven't read Warlock yet , and will be reading Epitaph soon. I'm one of those feminist trouble makers, so thanks for choosing a female author! Also, thanks for mentioning A. B. Guthrie, a fine author seldom read these days!
