    As others have said, whilst some form of weaving was intended, the animation cancelling was not.

    I am still waiting for the proof of this. I still stand by my theory that animation canceling is intentional, but the damage ceiling it allowed was higher than expected, and that was the unintentional part. The claim that ZOS admitted animation canceling itself is a bug they were unable to fix is as of yet unverified and is still absurd. I mean no exaggeration when I say that with my limited experience with game dev, I could likely fix it myself. It is more likely that animation canceling was intended, the damage output was higher than expected, but instead of removing animation canceling which would sacrifice the game's fluidity, they adjusted combat encounters to accomodate.

    @@BlackBlazeGaming I should probably clarify my point. Animation canceling was intended i.e. that you should be able to block should you need to. It was not intended to generate additional DPS. They tried to fix it, couldn't, found that the playerbase mostly embraced it and rolled with it- which I am thankful for. These are from a distant interview with Jessica Folsom- but not going searching for it (mainly because I'm not creating a video where it is a major component).

    Is it all too late for a 10-year-old game, are our expectations of ESO above what can be obtained and implemented at this point? Are we just clinging on to hope at this point.... meanwhile ZOS is working on their next project. Best of luck (aims the bow with the flaming arrow toward the boat in the river)

    The idea animation cancelling is a unintentional feature came from......wait for it.....ZoS themselves. It's not some idea or smear attack on the devs, they readily admitted it wasn't supposed to be that way, so i find it odd you go so hard on that point. People aren't making that up...they themselves said it was a bug they couldn't fix, and it was not intended. Easy to find out yourself. So sorry, its pretty weird you're saying it was intentional design when they said themselves it was in fact, not. Weaving is fine, and is now absolutely embraced and accounted for by the devs and players, but again, by the devs themselves, it was never intended. Other points in the video are spot on. All well said.

    Tried posting a link to a screenshot of Jessica and Gina discussing this very thing, but KZread doesn't allow links without the channel owners permission. In the screenshot, Jessica admits cancelling was unintended, yet not a exploit. I'll add that on ESO Live for 1.6 they admit that although they've previously said and admitted it was not intended, they are embracing it, they want you to do it, and it's reaffirmed it's not a exploit. But up until that point, there were clearly dev posts on the forum talking about it's removal due to it being a unintended side effect of the combat system. You'll have to do your own searching, as I said, because KZread doesn't allow commenters to post links.

    The Nightblade's Spectral Bow morphs are working as intended. The Magicka morph is more expensive to use and each stack is only 60 Weapon/Spell Damage compared to the less expensive to use Stamina morph's 80 Weapon/Spell per stack. That is why the Magicka morph's stacks don't drop but the Stamina morph's stacks drop. If you want the Magicka stacks to drop the morph will need to be adjusted but that would eliminate the distinction between the two.

    A good offense is a good defense. This is where Necro and Templars shine imo, and for me makes them fun. What is really a counter to high burst classes? More burst or an iron curtain of a defense? I’m guessing these were built that way by design for that purpose, especially as arcanists were built for DPS, so clear intent is on full display. As for DKs, there are usually a couple of classes in MMOs that are good at everything, and just happen to be tanks. I’m guessing to have a high opinion of fun and fill a role in a group game nobody wants to fill. There’s a tank shortage in all MMOs but especially in ESO currently. If we can get beneath the surface of “but muh dps….” mentality I find the picture becomes a little more clear.

  • @BlackBlazeGaming

    @BlackBlazeGaming

    God damn this is really well said. I should also clarify since I forgot to in the vid, that I am exaggerating when I talk about class balance. ESO's balance is in a better spot than its ever been. There's definitely some stuff that might be a little out of proportion, and that's likely never going to change because you can't necessarily achieve perfect balance without completely dumbing the game down to the point of nothingness. Your point about Necros and Templars is pretty on point I think. I feel like Necros do suffer in terms of their usefulness in various pvp formats. Sometimes they're fine and other times, they seem really pointless. Huge fight on Alessia Bridge? Well good luck getting a blastbones off without it being instakilled. Templars are in a slightly better spot, in this regard but there's not really anything they specialize in. Their heals are, fine but kinda underwhelming at times. Radiant Oppression is fantastic, but interruptable, and only really good for supporting a higher damage class who puts someone into execute for you since Templar's damage is just so shallow. They're just sort of a well-rounded class that doesn't do anything all that unique or super competently. Likely won't die, but on its own might struggle to get kills. With DK I think you have a good point here too. Clearly, having tanking options that balance fun with nigh immortality is a priority for ZOS, considering the changes introduced in the current PTS cycle for Werewolf. Overall, I think what ZOS struggles with in terms of balance is making each class offer something unique and interesting that fits with its theme, without pigeonholing every player into running one specific setup, and one specific group comp. Sites like Alcast don't help because people will just point to something like that and say "run this" without explaining that its not the only viable way to play. Next patch should be interesting though because I believe Scribing may completely change the meta and offer so many new build options across the board.

How many groups are going to sit through long dialogue scenes followed by 20-45 minute combat encounters? Its part of the experience, but increasing the difficulty would likely only turn more people off from doing it. Difficulty options are a good middle ground I just don't think it'll change anything about people's engagement with that side of the game.

    Then they need to reduce animation times and add animation canceling as an auto feature, they also need to add new pvp specific stats that would help balance the sets in a more meaningful way outside of the sets pve function. So many sets, easier balancing is a plus not a negative

  • @BlackBlazeGaming

    @BlackBlazeGaming

    Yeah they basically did the whole GCD thing to lower the skill ceiling and make high-end damage production more accessible, along with smooth out all combat with a baseline timeframe. Ironically, it made things way clunkier and less intuitive across the board while also slowing combat down considerably. They've done a little bit to balance sets in PVE vs PVE with bonuses that only apply in one type of content along with introducing No Proc PVP, but ultimately No Proc just highlights even more how broken some classes are, whether being overpowered like DK and NB or completely worthless like Arcanist (no real damage without procs) or Necro whose abilties just... don't work.

  • @chaoticwings3436
    @chaoticwings3436Ай бұрын

    I also agree that dks have a much better tool kit then other classes. I jumped on one since I was bored of doing overland content with my magden. They are incredibly difficult to kill thanks to their burst heal essentially bringing them back up to full hp when they get low and you can set up a lot of damage bursts like with flames of oblivion. Not to mention they have a direct passive that increases their primary damage output (fire and poison) by 6% and have a decent amount of extra armor on another passive. I think in general they are the only class I can't beat dueling with my magden. Every other one I have been able to beat in a 1v1 situation. NBs unfortunately being the easiest because all I have to do when facing a NB is just slot in radiant magelight in my flex spot and the game is essentially over at that point. Dks need a nerf but I don't want to see them nerfed into oblivion where they begin to become un-fun to play. I think the other thing that would need to happen would be for the other classes to be buffed to a point where something in their kit would be able to fight a dk. Not sure how to really go about it but one of the suggestions I saw for the warden side of things is to make the cliff racer spammable do ice execute dmg. Honestly would give me a reason to try to do some some more serious pvp with my warden again. For now though its my chill build that I enjoy playing.....no pun intended. Personally would like the dmg passives on warden instead of being linked to one weapon to be similar to the sorc and dk with their 6% to their preferred dmg type. They would need to change some of the mag damage from the class abilities (or all mag dmg) to ice though. Wardens (despite being the masters of cold) have a limited tool kit for ice dmg and almost all the ice dmg comes from outside the class skills. I went into detail as to what I would change on the warden skill lines in a post on the forums but to shorten it a little bit so I don't ramble forever on my favorite class: Nature's grasp (don't see anyone using it. Not good for a healer because it puts them in the bad stuff, can't really use for a tank (brings a boss right on top of your party) , wasted slot on dps. Needs a rework, prefer a drain enemy pull morph so a warden tank has a mag pull instead of silver leash), frozen gate (not used by any wardens I know, most find this ability weird and awkward to set up then other pulls, needs a rework to apply buffs/debuffs or increasing ice dmg while your in the radius. I defiantly want a new mag type weapon that's melee focus. Probably would prefer that style more then the staff.

    ESO should fix animation cancelling so that damage occurs at the end of the animation. If you cancel the animation, you don't complete the skill, and thus don't get the effect. If this is a problem, then shorten cast/channel times. One should be able to block things, and one can't block things if they can't see them, i.e., the defender can't see the animation.

  • @BlackBlazeGaming

    @BlackBlazeGaming

    2 ай бұрын

    I assume you mean only with melee weapons since ranged weapons all have a projectile that fires from them on LA. Of course, with enough experience in PVP content, LA weaving becomes something you anticipate and defend against naturally. The idea of blocking a light attack does sound a bit strange as its often more important to use your resources to block something that actually hits hard like Meteor or Incap Strike.

  • @cassiaphire3645

    @cassiaphire3645

    2 ай бұрын

    @@BlackBlazeGaming Yes, as long as one can see the ranged light attacks. I would assume that the animation cancel would apply to all attacks. The combat may be a little slower, but the defender should have a chance to see the attack coming. This might make things a little more tactical if the attacker had to worry about a heavy attack or channeled attack being blocked or reflected, shielded etc. With stuns being involved as well, the premise that one can macro or weave and cancel the animation and notification that the attack is coming is just isn't fun. I am no expert, but I have been in pvp and i look at my death recap and it says I was hit by like 5 things from the same person and I never actually saw them happen in the game. If one takes server lag into account, the cancelling for the defender is even worse. Now, I think one should be able to cancel an animation by right clicking block - that would be fine, but cancelling an animation and still getting the benefit is all attacker advantaged. Plus, let's hypothetically say that one blocks all 3 or 4 or 5 of the attacks they never see...they have spent resources using a block or using a damage shield that is now wasted. I have played ESO off and on for a while, but I will say I am no expert at pvp. However, pvp might be more appealing to the masses if these ability spammers that use these things, and seemingly use macros to cancel attacks - could be eliminated. It might actually be fun rather than dying in 1 second from 5 things that should have taken 5-6 seconds, at least, even if they were all done in succession with no defense or counters. But there is more - large groups stacking aoe attacks is terrible as well. This just isn't fun for the average player. There is supposedly a fairly large daily population of people who play eso, and very few must pvp, because there aren't many pvp servers and even those are not well populated besides may be 2 of them. A small group of troll-like players and groups ruin it for everyone else.

    I think that's fair. These things will always have a level of bias I think. What I posit in the video is merely my view on things, though I think I can dig even deeper into DK to show kinda why I think they may never be properly balanced but even that is just my view. You have a point about Sorcs. U41 hasn't been out long enough to say whether they're completely unbalanced or not, but they are undoubtedly strong right now. Definitely in a better place than they've been for a long time at this point. NB is really strong, and I would say arguably unbalanced. Yes it takes a lot more skill to play a NB effectively than a DK, but that's just it: a skilled NB will fuck people up really easily and rarely suffer consequences. Skilled NBs are just kinda rare, and there are ways to play a NB that don't require skill, such as waiting in stealth with a bow proc ready to one-shot an unsuspecting player who's only in Cyro or IC to do a quest. That is a scummy way to play and no one who does that has my respect.

    the list of things that zeni should either implement or change is long and vast. There are so many things that should be fixed, they made a card game in a mmo that i have never once seen anyone actually play and the content locked a mythic that was believed to change the meta of the game at the time to that same dlc. It shouldn't take 50 transmutation crystals to change the trait of a piece of armor i already have meanwhile if i collect all the part of that page, i can make it for half the cost???? There was a time where basically all classes skill got reworked just so they would all be viable in any role and yet there are classes that are so bad outside of a single roll, that people will get venomous at you for playing it in pve content. Stam has always stuggled to be on par with magica builds, this is more easily viewed when comparing ww and vampire, and while 95% of that has been Zenimax's fault, the other 5% has been the resource pool is shared with your ability to move out of the way or break cc as well as zenimax traditionally keeping stam pools smaller and harder to increase then mag pools. I have said for a long long time more weapon types would be fun. Bound martial weapons exist in lore, hell zenimax acknowledges this by having them as a premium weapon skin. While i think it may be harder to introduce more ranged stam options that exist in lore, while making them feel unique from bows, there are still options. Also Races!!!! We've had at least 2 separate dlc's where more races could have been added. Both in Elyswer, and murkmire and it is cannon that more races exist in the world. I mean for fuck sakes, why haven't we GOTTEN SEA ELVES YET!!!! And it's not like there isn't a need for them. Want to make mag tanks viable? CREATE A RACE WHO GET MAG & HP BONUSES THAT ISN'T GEARED TOWARDS HEALERS!!! We have I think 3 tradtional tank races (orc, nord, khajiit) but 2 passable mag based tank races that no one acknowledges as tank races (argonian, and breton) There is an insane vaccum of content that players have been begging for and the lack of that in favor of macrotransations that payway meta changing content, in favor of more loot boxes, in favor of blatantly ignoring the fan base. I'd like to say I'm excited for scribing but i already know that it's either going to be a mind numbing grind that will eventually push me away from the game again, OR it'll be a $30+ skill line deal that I'll have to pay a ludercious amount of money to access on characters just to avoid the slog of grinding identical content on 7 other characters, which will of course off put me from the game, AGAIN.

    I think you make some good points here and I'm happy you weren't just super upset by me picking on necro. To be as fair as possible, PVP balance is in a better place currently than it has been in many past instances. While I would say necro is still probably the weakest class in PvP I'm certainly exaggerating in saying they're worthless. I think ultimately it comes down to encounters. Their burst ability in large scale fights just doesn't land most of the time. Its often CC'd into a massive damage AOE and killed before it can cause any harm. They can still apply good pressure and are insanely tanky. Its just that comparing them to something like a Nightblade with the highest bursts possible, or DKs with literally every stat at their finger tips and they start to pale a little. And honestly, while I constantly beg for classes, I do love what we have and think it provides a decent variety overall, especially for new players. I just have an addiction to their gorgeous skill effect designs and theming. Like... no Elder Scrolls games have ever made magic or any other combat ability look this good.

    There is a story to that audio clip. There was someone who I caught repeatedly going around harassing and bullying people. And I don't mean just criticizing with some scathing comments, but some actual heinous shit, including false accusations of seriously illegal shit, and turning entire guilds and social groups against individual people. And just before I got this person ousted from a guild where they were doing this, I got a clip of them saying UwU to someone as like a... flirting thing I guess albeit somewhat ironically? Anyways, because they watched some of my older content and tried to use it to bully me for getting them kicked from a guild, I started putting it at the end of my videos as a joke.

    A big thing that drives me NUTS and I don't see anyone- talk about..is the mount system. As an altoholic, the mount system in eso, is bar far THE WORST mount system, in the bigger mmo sphere, bar none... imagine, having to pay up, or wait roughly 160 days (with some free monthly rewards) FOR EVERY CHARACTER- ...I'de be FINE with that, if progression was account wide, but it isn't. Most mmos, you're topped out at mount speed, in a day or two, at most, if you're playing consistently.

    @@Zalithiel Throw in the fact that you can not mount in combat, mounting halts you in your tracks and its basically just super sluggish and unresponsive and unless you spend a minimum of 2 months leveling only speed, mounts are worthless. There is expanded pack size, but with a world this big and the existence of the stickerbook, speed beats it out in QOL every time.

I m on my 3rd year playing eso and still love it... Because of the reasons you mentioned I a m not even close to pvp play... Maybe never... Great content!

    Don't give in and keep playing what you want to play! After reading the patch notes for Scions of Ithelia I finally decided to update my sorc for PvP and went and got Emperor mostly solo! I've been steamrolling people, and while I'm certainly not on par with the regular PvP players, I can hold my own and win fights pretty consistently, and do it the way I want.

    If ZoS could implement craglorn scaling for the rest of the game I would be happy. Toggle on or off. I just want to fight something for more than 2 hits to kill it. Reason people dont block/dodge in dungeons/raid? Everything dies too fast to be a threat, so why bother learning it?

  • @BlackBlazeGaming

    The Craglorn point is actually a really interesting idea. The problem of course is that almost no one plays Craglorn content because it can't be done solo on most builds, and building to complete it solo means it would take forever because of how much damage you sacrifice to survive the mechs. You could try getting a group together but most people wouldn't join a pug for it because the content doesn't offer anything worth struggling for. There is no light at the end of the tunnel. As for the blocking and dodging in dungeons and trials, I have no idea what you're talking about. People either learn the mechanics or they suffer one shots, group wipes, and in some cases getting kicked from party for refusing to follow mechs. I run trifectas on my tank and got oneshot in a normal base game dungeon because someone messed up a mechanic. Damage output is insane right now, and it does render some bosses as posing zero threat because they die too quick but that is a very small minority mostly relegated to normal dungeons. The majority of boss encounters in ESO have periods of invulnerability that prevent over damaging to avoid mechanics. You either follow mechs or your group wipes. I've heard some out of touch takes but this one is remarkably silly.

    The vast majority of this player base are solo rp casuals who only do overland content. You dont need to block anything overland. They occasionally jump into a dungeon with *gasp* mechanics, get one shot, and just quit or whine THEN quit has been my experience. Those of us that actually run vet dungeons and shit are a very, very SMALL minority. This game is 85% casuals. "You either follow mechs or your group wipes. I've heard some out of touch takes but this one is remarkably silly" stow the attitude, this isn't a sexual organ measuring contest. The MAJORITY of the dipsh*ts who play this game dont even know what "mechanics" are And craglorn is easy to anyone who has a room temperature IQ. But like I said, this community if full of low IQ casuals who spend half their time light attacking enemies to death (not weaving, their intelligence is too low for weaving). I question any take that says craglorn is "hard" in any way whatsoever.@@BlackBlazeGaming

    I think this is probably accurate, and I don't know if there's a world where this game could thrive on its PvP. I can scarcely think of an MMO that does. Usually PvP games that do well are shooters, but competitive gamers are fickle and fleeting.

    Animation canceling, whether in ESO or other games, is just dumb as a concept and I say that as guy who plays ESO basically everyday and bought the game at launch. And yes, I have played fighting games as well. It makes fighting more chaotic, messy and less predictable. And laziness, while it's very understandable, is an MO of Zenimax. I don't know whether they implemented it on purpose or not but let's just say my trust in them, when it comes to stuff like that, isn't very high. They recycle tons of stuff and even try to sell it as the hot new shit like in the Infinite Archives. It's ok to recycle mobs, like they do a lot, but at least don't make it sound like it's something amazing and fresh! And don't get me started on (non-existent) decision making in the roleplaying aspect of the game. The little decision you get to make during a quest are always isolated and basically bound to a quest. I praise the Eight when somebody actually recognises me as a dunmer/vampire/etc. once in a blue moon. Otherwise you're just the "outsider". Can't waste a single spoken line on addressing your character and make them come to life! Nope, your character has to stay as bland as possible! The (voiced) quests in themselves though are good. So is the atmosphere, with amazing love to detail. I still marvel at the fact, that they put a skyshard in a barrel behind the census office in Seyda Neen where there used to be the first good magic ring you find in TES III Morrowind. Good stuff! That's what ZOS actually does better than other MMOS. They could tone down on the ghost questgivers though. It's an infestation! I am also more forgiving when it comes to balancing issues. Those will always be there and it is a constant process. I just sometimes wish they would react faster to fix clearly imba broken PVP builds. And yeah, the crown store can fuck right off! What I don't agree with is, that the game is dead. It's still one of the best MMOs out there. Yeah, piling on a lot of criticism is just fun for people. Venting makes you feel better. Like you do in this video. I don't think there's any game out there that hasn't to deal with that, with maybe a few exceptions at the beginning of a game's lifespan. Feel free to disregard that opinion as much as you want.

    Weaving should be eliminated, light attacks, heavies and all skills should share a 1 sec global cooldown. Jumping should cost stamina.

    So you want the combat to slow down even more and feel less responsive or more clunky? Why should jumping cost stamina if it doesn't affect combat? Generally stamina costs are tied to things that can assist in defending against skills or damaging an opponent. Jumping does neither. Sounds to me like the game would feel more restrictive, and like we're playing inside a prison cell.
