What if you can use ChatGPT or Google Bard to do IP law work much faster?
It is now possible.
Our top IP law faculty Abhsihek Pareek (Principal Associate at LawSikho) made a demo video for you - where he takes a real office action report from USPTO and gets help from ChatGPT to write a cogent usable reply. The first response is not great, it takes some coaxing through prompts to make it usable.
As expected, ChatGPT does a good job, but not a complete job. You need to know how to do the work to be able to produce a final version.
The weakest point for ChatGPT is case law research, you can’t rely on it for that at all. You must do your own research.
However, what would have taken an expert 3-4 hours to draft can now be drafted in 1-2 hours - which of course is absolutely amazing.
Also you don’t have to spend time on things like proofreading, basic formatting, looking for templates etc. This is great news as you are able to focus your energy on the most essential creative legal work rather than boring grunge work.
What is even more shocking is that Abhishek used the free version of ChatGPT for this.
Also, it is not that this method will work only for USPTO, you can also do Indian trademark office prosecution work (reply to objections and opposition) faster and better using the same method.
