Lack of consistent terminology is huge barrier to clarity in the healthcare field. Mechanical ventilation is the worst. Just stay with it, and I promise you it gets easier to understand.

Is anatomical dead space a volume control issue or it applies to pressure control too ?

Great channel! Great videos! Just so I understand correctly, when the patient is on a ventilator and there is nothing between the “wye” and the endotracheal tube, the anatomical dead space has been essentially eliminated and the tidal volume delivered by the ventilator is alveolar tidal volume?.

Great question. Not exactly, mechanical deadspace is eliminated in that scenario, but you must still consider physiologic deadspace. There will still be some ventilation wasted in the conducting airways. Make sense?
