This Boot's been out in the wild for a LOOOONG time! It still has the old Nicks logo and the western sole that it had originally was pretty much completely worn off

    Very nice to see a simple resole compared to a rebuild.

    What I find interesting is that the sole still had to be cut off the midsole even though the stitches were worn off of the outsole. Really great craftsmanship.

    *That's because they're lock stitches. The stitches go through the midsole and the welt. So even though it looked like he could've peeled the outer sole off, the stitches were still locked in. This is extremely important to remember. Because, I see people posting on the r/Boots subreddit very often with this concern about the stitching that looks like that. They think their outsoles are about to easily fall off. In reality they won't due to the lock stitching I described above.*

    I really enjoy watching these type of videos, really helps me to appreciate the toughness and craftsmanship in every boot. I am eyeing the parkhurst last boot you make, will gift myself a boot like this one day.

    Could Nicks confirm what the original leather of the uppers of these boots was, and what’s the edge dressing applied at the end?

    Hey great video. How do you make sure you stitch in all the old holes in stitchdown construction? Are you just putting in a whole new line of stitching? If so after a few resoles is the rim just full of lines of stitching, or on the 2nd resoling how do you stitch into the same holes created by the 1st resoling?

    Looks like they just add a 3rd stitchdown stitch. If you tried to remove them you may cause more issues with water resistance on a stitchdown boot. On a goodyear welt you can remove the old stitches and make it look better without effecting the water resistance.

    I have always wondered what the use of a heel like that is in a work boot. Isnt it more of a hindrance? Someone here sure knows

  • @nicksboots

    @nicksboots

    We have a metal foot shape anvil INSIDE the boot, when the worker hammers in the nails it hits that and the point bends all the way back onto itself essentially making a hook, holding the leather together. All handmade boots use this or similar methods :)

    I recently got a pair of your boots and the left boot is perfect no pain at all, but the right boot is very painful on top of my ankle, the eyelid is getting pulled into my ankle can't even passively have them on without pain, and if I bend it is the pain is unbearable

    If you’re wearing a boot with a high arch, thus a higher heel, you don’t want it to be a chunky block heel. It’s for from and function. More comfortable to walk in if it’s a taller heeled boot
