No doubt PC always was more flexible and powerful than consoles in hardware, not the software(especially the faulty ones). But I don't understand all these Console/PC hate and wars! I don't care about the platform. As long as a game is fine and has no issues, I enjoy playing it on any platform! But the PC version of RE was a poor port from the console like many other games that ported from consoles to PC. Sure it was the developer's fault, not the platform itself. Here are some technical info about original RE for both PS1 and PC: The backgrounds in this game(which feels the screen by 90% most times) are pre-rendered 2D in 320x240px with low color-depth on both platforms, so no matter what a modern system you're using to run the game; no visual improvement comes during the gameplay, because it's already prerenderd! The PC port has low quality audio files, most of them compressed with (maximum) @22050Hz 4bit, compared to 37800Hz-Stereo 16bit on PS1 in Sony's (individual) ADPCM format. Also the sound cracks sometimes during the gameplay of the PC version(especially on many non-compatible sound cards). The cutscenes video files on the PC is compressed with an old low quality video encoder (most likely MS-Video1 format), but on PS1 compressed nicely using STR format. The game runs @30 variable frames per second on PC, but @59.94fps on PS1(NTSC Ver.)... This game designed to play using controllers not mouse/keyboard, but the PC version doesn't support controllers. This version on the video support the DualShock controller (+vibrations obviously) by default... I heard that a mod project running to fix all these issues for PC version.

Being fair, he wasn't talking about pc/console wars, he was talking about censorship, something that hit hard on consoles and the mostly never apply on PC because PC isn't ruled by a single entity like consoles (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, Microsoft, etc). Now, back to the game, I think PC version was in between, like a semi uncut?, my version has a color intro but not that long, it has a smoker Chris, but I don't remember the falling head on the first zombie...

the first time i ever saw this game, i walked in as my uncle was about to see the zombie turn and look at you the first time, and seeing that horrifying face on the t.v scared me so much that i just turned around and walked away and hid in that room until he stopped playing. for years that face alone scared the shit out of me, but then i forced myself to watch gameplay videos and artwork of that same face until it didn't give me the scared feeling anymore. now i'm fascinated looking at it

I was obsessed from that moment on, but too scared to actually play it, it wasn't til I was about 11 or 12 when I finally grew a pair and was able to beat it, and man when I beat it, I was so proud, one of my favorite series ever, beat em all, 1 2 3 4 and Veronica, I started 5,didnt finish it, never played 6 but looking forward to 7

The Head falling just makes that cutscene so much better. Doesn't feel completed without seeing Kenneth's Head fall off.

I saw that game when I was a kid, the first Zombie turning his head around like that scared the living hell out of me. I didn't want to see the game. But of course I grew up and conquered my fears. Now it's hilarious, what's terrifying is the terrible voice acting.

MetroidJunkie REmake as it's commonly called. I have it, and I usually beat it in around 3 hours. And yes, now the horror is actually the horror itself, not the voice acting. In the original it's almost as if the creators just went out of the studio and found the first american tourists they could stumble upon in the streets.

Now I know why Chris has a Zippo as an inventory item.

Gum is a typical substitute for those who have quit smoking. It's confirmed in some of the art for "Resident Evil 1.5", which is the prototype for RE2. In the concept art, Leon is seen smoking alongside Chris, Joseph, and a character named D.J. (who was cut from RE2). Beautiful.

The director's cut was supposed to have the full color uncensored into in the US. When the game was submitted to Capcom of America, it was rejected because of incorrect copyright info in the intro movie. Instead of editing in the proper text, Capcom of Japan (who did the localization work) just put back the censored movie as it was already correct and the game was printed that way.

The fucking music when they show the characters 😆😆😆 This makes me want to wrestle with ePSXe again. The uncut version is pure 90s.

this is why I am against censorship the right one was awesome.

Back then, it was fundamental for our parents to keep us away from this stuff. Then, things got out of hand when they decided bring it up to local governments to make them cancel gore in video games.

I remember watching a live stream of someone playing RE1 and they cut the Friends intro song over the RE intro part when its showing all the characters. It went so well together. Made me lol

My PAL-Spanish copy has the uncut too. It's the first release. It's not Director's cut, the cover is just "Resident Evil". I bought it at its release date :D

Chris' shaking of the head while looking menacing is a close tie with his hilarious lighting up of the cigarette for best RE moment EVER.

Every time I hear them say Resident Evil, I'm always waiting for them to say Resident Evil 2. As much as I have played that game. That was all I would hear.

I'm not really gonna ask why this is in my recommendations at this point since this seems to be how youtube works now. But the most obvious differences I can list are; The content warning on startup in the DX cut The Capcom logo animation looks more modern in the DX cut The biggest difference: opening cutscene to uncut version is longer and more gorey DX cut opening is in black and white (since it was censored they probably tried to make it look more scary with a filter) Might have been just a sound glitch, but DX cut lists the surviving characters Stupid censorship: Uncut shows Chris Redfield smoking Uncut has a rock song playing during character introductions, porbably censored in DX due to music licensing Uncut zombie cutscene shows victim's decapitated head As much as I prefer the Uncut ver, I thing the rock song pretty much detracts from the overall feel from the game and makes out to be some sort of parody. But why would you censore smoking IN A ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GAME?

Thank you SO MUCH for making this patch!! It has some playback issues but I am playing it on the Android version of ePSXe running on Snapdragon 435 clocked at 1.4 GHZ with OpenGL ES 3.2, Adreno 505 and 2 GB of RAM. But that's an issue with my hardware. You did great!

Fun fact: The French copy of the game was released completely uncut, with the intro in colour, the bloody parts, and the shot of the mutilated head just before the zombie turn away.

The uncut intro is a gore galore! It was pretty brutal for a intro scene on a PS1 game.

I actually liked how when you booted up the game, the PS1 intro comes in first. :D I wished I had a PS console instead of the N64 (I had the N64 since 2007)

Smoking Chris at 5:50 is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Reminds me of the 80s when smoking was still cool.

The good o' days. Love this game. Still do. Love the eerie music, dialogue is bad but still awesome horror game. First time playing it when it first came out on ps1 had me scared for awhile. That original Capcom intro stillkinda gives me the shivers. (The one to the left....to be precise)

I had the ds version as a kid and the line " now he's become a mere shadow of his former self" made my skin crawl

The uncut is more gore and cool!!

I played this game when it came out on the ps1 back in the 90s.....I was blown away....voice acting....story....scary....one of the first of its kind....beat it....and was scared as hell....those days I use to be home alone a lot at night and MAAAAAN talk about good times

The german Director's Cut version had the full uncut intro video in color and introduction from the STARS members, but was cut in the scene with the first zombie, the falling head was cut out, the rest was uncensored.

Sure wish the uncut version was the version released on ps1, the cutscenes look so much better even with the poor graphics we had then.

Ahh yes first zoombie scene, when i saw it i was 7 and it scared the shit out of me :D

I just love how that first gun shot in the mansion doesn't count as an emergency

I always lost it at the "TING!" of Kenneth's head falling. Why did his mauled, decapitated head sound like a microwave finishing?! XD

Its a classic oldschool horrorsample. Its not the sound from the head. It stands for gore. Friday the 13 movies had it much too.

So I always played the shitty-version, why did they have to cut everything goddamn it. This is not a question.

The Windows 95' virgin interactive computer release is uncut and not all goofy. A gem in my collection.

This uncut version is pretty cool, first played this back in '98 when I was 7, the dogs smashing through the windows used to scare me haha.

I love the background at the start, cool as hell, 4:21 hahaha always makes me laugh =P The uncut is so much better, like a cheesy 80's action horror.

The version where Kenneth’s head was seen rolling, I remember seeing that from the DS version.

This may be a long shot but I remember watching a rolling advertised video for this game in my local Dixons game store back in the day and every time something violent happened a huge red CENSORED! logo was slapped on screen. Now, in the crow puzzle room you distinctly see Chris get killed by the crows and the blood splatter effect is obviously censored but I recall seeing two white circular objects hit the floor during the death animation and wondered if it was supposed to be his eyeballs being pecked out? Anyone else remember this or have any video evidence? I'd love to know if this was something that was censored in all versions of the game too!

Oh so we're supposed to forget the most iconic addition in the director's cut. The basement music consisting of trumpets farting.

I like how it just freezeframes to prevent you from seeing that the hand is cut off.

What's weird about this.. As from germany I only remember the Directors Cut with the colored intro.

Nope the violence of the game was complete uncut. The only thing we still missing on the directors cut is the rolling head. The heavy cut Resident Evil games are 2(Soft banned), 3 (no blood, no capitations) and Code Veronica(Soft banned both versions) But since last year every Resident Evil game from the main series are not banned anymore :)

It was first released with the colour intro, afterwards it was in Germany the same thing, the BPJM checked the game, then afterwards, the crap black & White intro was the only thing to get in exchange for your good Money...

When I played the european director's cut version I actually remember all these things that are showing in this video for the uncut version. I suppose it depends from the region.

I am having a little marathon on my PVM tomorrow night with RE1 and RE2 on PS1. Ohhh shit I'm psyched. Been a minute since I played these classics.
