I'm glad they gave Luis more to do here in this remake. He went from a cool side character to an actual helpful companion to Leon in the game.

Funny, Cheeky, Helpful, and downright Charismatic... this is the Luis Sera we should've got

Seeing as how Luis survived a bit longer this time, I was hoping he would’ve at least survived long enough to be the one performing the plaga removal operation on Leon and Ashley, and it would’ve made more sense than having Leon and Ashley (who had no clue on how the medical equipment worked) do it, especially considering how risky the operation alone was.

This was the best version of Luis we could get! He still died but in a well that was fitting to his character and personality :)

Luis has the biggest upgrade in the remake that killing him in one game seems like a wasted potential, they done everything perfectly with his character. But one thing I'm not sold on is his death, it doesn't feel like he's done with a mere stab when he's the same guy responsible for the regenerators. He said he got a plan after the cabin but they never explained it. It's more convenient if he got a regen sample in his body that can cure injuries, explains how he managed to walk all the way back to save Leon despite his injury. A morally grey scientist like Luis working on regen sample for medical purpose to make money seems more fitting, he must've been testing it on himself for a while which explains the scars on his face and neck, but it must be a slow regen process that puts him on coma while healing. His survival twist adds more interesting scenarios than his death, because RE story is desperately in need for morally grey characters to spice things up for the main cast, Luis can be a wildcard/jester/anti hero type of character because he's literally the guy who created all the monsters we kill in RE4 and was former researcher of umbrella, killing him in one game seems like wasted potential. Edit: Making Luis be the ex Umbrella scientist who worked on Nemesis is huge retcon, there are many neat ideas they can do with Luis after they retconned his story: - A scenario where Jill would try to kill him for creating her 1st nightmare Nemesis, and Leon would stop her. - Luis can make samples to help the cast gain speed and power like Wesker but temporarily to beat BOWs, and he got the vaccines to help them go back to normal, it'd be cool to see Leon with Wesker's power. - In RE4R notes Luis was planning to trick Ada to keep the plaga sample for himself to control creatures to beat Saddler, he normalizes creating BOWs if they fight for the good side which is why he even worked on Nemesis, so if he survives he'd totally make Nemesis 2.0 where he can fully control it through the parasite to fight for the good side to help the cast beat BOWs, we get to play as the freaking Nemesis controlled by Luis who would be doing cool stuff with his Red9 next to his giant companion. - He also said in the remake notes that *"i doesn't want anyone else to get hurt"* and *"I'll have to, for the world's sake"* when talking about obtaining the sample and not giving it to ada or anyone. Suggests his plan was he wanted to apply the experiments on himself (like how he tried the parasite removal machine on himself), seems he was THAT close to turn himself into Nemesis 2.0...so a very potential scenario where Luis just drag himself through successful experiments where he can fully control himself in stable state to help the cast beat BOWs by becoming Nemesis 2.0, and he can regularly transform between human/monster forms through vaccines, because of his previous canon experience in developing parasites/viruses he can do literally anything.

the plan was to subdue the parasite so they had more time to remove the parasite, simple as that. The "wasted potential" is what made the death scene impactful, we got connected to his character and he died of unfortunate circumstances. Some regen sample reasoning would've been more convoluted then he just used his last bit of life to save someone to redeem himself atleast alittle bit. You can't fault the writers for making a death more impactful by fleshing him out.

@@TheChriskilla100 The regen idea won't effect his death moment if it's done in a way that Luis himself wasn't sure he'd survive it so he really meant what he said in his last words and his sacrifice still stands, the regen sample idea is that he just never tested fatal injuries on himself so he'd never know, in his death scene moment he can be in deep pain and losing consciousness is normal so he told Leon of what he believes will be his last words, but the twist is he just went in coma again while healing. Luis death now is the easiest to make a twist where he survives based on his backstory working for Umbrella and involvement with Nemesis creation, unlike his old death was more brutal and hard to survive. Luis survival can bring interesting scenarios like Jill finding out he's involved in the creation of her first nightmare, Nemesis, Jill would probably try to kill him while Leon would stop her. Another cool scenario is that Luis can make samples that helps Leon or anyone from the main cast to willingly gain power/speed like Wesker but temporarily, to beat other BOWs or some powerful villain, and Luis would have the vaccine to bring them back to normal. Would be pretty cool to see Leon or other characters have super powers like Wesker.

Imagine if Luis still alive until the end of game

Overall I still enjoyed RE4 classic more, but the new Luis is one of the few things that's undeniably better in the remake. Fleshed out his character and backstory, gave him more contribution towards helping Leon complete his objective, and working him in with Leon and Krauser's storyline was a brilliant touch - having Luis be the one to save Leon while meeting his end at Krauser's hands added significantly more emotional weight to the eventual boss fight. Both the script and the VA performance of Luis was amazing at the very end too, a touching and bittersweet end to a short but memorable character arc where a longtime fan favourite gets to have one last poignant moment to himself. As a researcher who played a huge part in unleashing the umbrella virus on the world, he could never truly atone or escape his inevitable doom, but he wanted to be a better person, right to the very end. Whether or not he truly succeeded isn't answered by the game, but is left for Leon and the player to decide and remember in their hearts.

Great video! Although the Resident Evil 4 remake is out, I'm still playing a lot of the original on mobile. In fact, on my latest episode of my RE4 series, I just passed through the cabin with Louis and both paths. It was intense! Keep up the great work!
