This was my first Resident Evil game, so I had no clue who Mr. X was. When I first saw him move that debris, I was like "what the fuck is THAT?". Then I tried shooting him, nothing. So I ran and eventually I lost him. For some reason, I thought that was the last I had seen of him. I had waited for a good 5 minutes for him to catch up to me and he didn't follow, so I thought I was good. It wasn't until I had gotten to the other side of the building (which was almost pitch-black and crawling with lickers), then I saw him walking down the hall in my direction. I almost shit myself.

Mr X was far far FAR scarier than Nemesis in the Remakes. He could literally come at you from anywhere and the footsteps had a proper "Impending doom" vibe to them.

Yeah, they kinda ruined nemesis in the remake. Every encounter was completely scripted and you were practically safe from him the entire time since he couldn't kill you. Even the encounter in the start was really not scary at all because we knew Jill would run away.

@313. I am not talking about the original. I am talking about the remake, the entire first encounter is scripted and it's obvious that he posed absolutely no threat at in the first encounter. When he uses that concrete slab to ram through Jill, you can simply stand there and wait because unless you start moving forward he won't even start moving. Also he barely chases Jill in very small areas. Mr X was far scarier than Nemesis in remakes.

@313. Yes it was a better encounter but I can't say that it was scary. It's pretty evident that Nemesis can't kill Jill unless you purposely mess up and mess up big time. I wish they would've added more random encounters where he chased Jill around all while running behind her and using his weapons. Now that would've been very anxiety inducing. I still feel Mr X was a lot more scarier than Nemesis in remakes because he could literally pop out of anywhere at anytime and completely throw you off.

Mr. X is definitely the Terminator of the RE franchise.

He’s supposed to be faster than Jill, whereas his appearances in ORC just made him a slow moving chaingun wielding terminator. I’m hoping he keeps his agile behavior

No joke, Amygdala's theme gives me PTSD because of the defiled version (took me 10 hours.) And now so does Mr. X's. Except I enjoy it in a weird twisted way.

Did you then also (like me) run like hell and then take a breather across the station, only to have him unexpectedly catch up? I knew he was in the game (albeit also thought B only), and assumed that once you lost him, he was gone till the next scripted encounter.. Boy was I wrong. I think that second encounter was an even bigger scare for me.

this caught me off guard when i played as leon. i didn’t even know he could jump down either. so when i was climbing up a ladder to escape him in the library, it wouldn’t let me. why? because mr. x jumped down that ladder and crushed me. i never screamed that loud in my life

Tyrant was way scarier than Nemesis if we're talking about the remakes, on my first play through it took me 3 hours to get that last electrical piece, since I do speed runs now, it takes me 2 minutes

When I feel like life is becoming hard on me and want to end it all, I listen to this and imagine that I could be in the RPD right now with Mr. X chasing me to give it to me real good, suddenly my life doesn't feel as bad.

About that time the footsteps was included. Thank you! Liked!

(Me going into what I think is a safe room) - Whew. I'm safe (Me when Mr X bursts into said room) - NOT SAFE! NOT SAFE! NOT SAFE!

I still regret not playing this game earlier. By the time I played I already knew you can't kill him, so I never shot at him and got that scary feeling that goes "what the hell is that thing"

Why couldn't they make Nemesis like this man..? Such a huge missed opportunity. Mr. X was originally scripted but they had him free roam the police station in the remake. Really sucks that they didn't give Nemesis the same treatment in the remake.

I just wish I could hear the jingle to his footsteps. That's where the true terror is at. Means he's right on your heels

This still upsets me even after having played through the game countless times. Mr. X is such a more effective scare than Nemesis in the remake. Nemesis is clearly a monster, but Mr. X hits that uncanny valley where he looks and acts just human enough to make him horrifying.

Footsteps that cause your anxiety levels to hit 1,000

Both Mr. X from resident evil 2 remake and alien from alien isolation are the only two that give you nightmares from running and hiding. Firearms that won't kill them, but it will slow them down. Imagine an android that looks like Mr x chasing you in alien isolation and alien chasing you in resident evil 2 remake.

My biggest regret is being stupid enough to watch the gameplay trailers because it absolutely ruined this for me. I would have never expected Mr X to appear in the A story and I can only imagine how bad I would have shit my pants had I just been patient

Old Mr X theme felt more scarier and suspenseful to me. I recently just got the original after playing the remake and I remember seeing the cut scene of a helicopter dropping Mr. X right on top of the building and when I was walking down the hall I see him as this intense suspenseful music suddenly starts playing as he lumbers towards me. I freaked out because I was low on ammo at that point and couldn’t escape

I agree. In many ways the music from the original RE2 was creepier. It was of a unique style that really added more affect to the intense ambiance of the game for that time. In many ways RE2 is a game that still is in a class all by itself.

This is the only fictional character that actually scares me. I'm almost an adult and this shit is still wack to me. My Dad pranked me with the footsteps so many times coming up the stairs...

I played and completed this game for the first time a month ago after my friend introduced me to resident evil with Biohazard. I knew I would meet Mr X at some point, but when that helicopter was lifted at a point when I was entirely out of ammo, I hauled ass off that roof and ran for my life till I didn’t hear him anymore.

The door forcefully opening is terrifying

That means we at least have Lickers being the only characters confirmed to be able to poop in the game’s canon. So far we have no idea if anybody else can poop in the Resident Evil universe. Chris being constipated might even explain his crazy mass gain

@@jaybomb5638 I don’t count Leon because in the original Resident Evil 2 game he only was after Claire as he only appeared in the B scenario. I just find it a little far fetched he’s after both of them unless there’s more than one Mr. X walking around. I’ve heard there was at least 3 of them. One chasing Claire, one chasing Leon (which Ada killed) and a third one that picked up chasing Leon where that one left off. Also, Leon didn’t seemed too bothered by the things he saw from 2 or 4. Claire is the only Resident Evil main character u play as (from 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8) who never had any kind of military training. So I’m sure it haunted her more so than Leon.

This soundtrack is even better with immersive footsteps. The Terminator-like always threatening Mr. X with his Alien Isolation like AI is way better fleshed out and more scary than Nemesis with it´s ridiculous over-the-top and mangamonster-like annoying attack moves and 100% prescripted encounters.

I don't really count Nemesis as a stalker figure in RE3 since you're already given more of a "gotta move fast" impression. Mr. X here on the other hand takes his time, and isn't in your face 100% of the time. instead of leaping ahead of you like a fucking rabbit, he just chases you on foot. he also has quite a temper and gets quite frustrated when you escape vs. Nemesis, with the latter simply mutating when his tactics aren't enough.

Honestly, I think both Nemesis and X are great villains, but having played re2 remake now and being stalked everywhere in RPD, I think X has instilled more dread in me than Nemesis ever will. X is always nearby in the police station, his footsteps are almost always audible nearby and chilled me to my core. When you don’t hear footsteps and think that your safe,he can appear seemingly out of nowhere and end your life. I feel like RE 2 was more horror than action, and 3 was more action than horror. Nemesis should be feared, but you never genuinely dread his presence, X’s presence is truly baleful. Nemesis sort of just shows up and starts a fight with you, but he never truly stalks you everywhere you go in RE 3, nor does he generate the same atmosphere of dread. He does “follow” you in around the city in 3, but not in the way X stalks you around almost every corner and hallway in 2. I think when you add all of those things and the fact that X falls easily into the uncanny valley, X is the more eerie and baleful presence of the 2 tyrants. I genuinely spent 20 minutes in the interrogation room waiting for X’s footsteps to go silent only to have them start up again while walking to door, which made me freeze up in fear 😅.

I saw mr x watching me from the third floor of the rpd when i hadnt even found the stuff for any enemy to reach that door in the library

Every time I feel like reviving my RE2 Remake experience, and think what made it so great? the atmosphere, the graphics, the sound effects, the musics (such as this) while being loyal to the original RE 2, I can't help but to wonder. Having the perfect foundation already done, how did CAPCOM manage to screw up RE 3 remake so bad? That game was supposed to be a master piece too! If they managed to make Mr X more menacing in RE 2 remake, Nemesis should have been a sure thing. How, CAPCOM? Just how did you drop the ball?
