RESIDENCY MATCH: love letters, making your rank lists and my match week experience
As a graduating [4th year] medical student, should you send a "love letter" or letter of intent to your #1 ranked residency program? Should you send letters to multiple programs professing their top position on your list? These are some of the questions I've frequently received from students and I wanted to share my personal approach and some advice in the area.
I also decided to ramble on about how I prioritized programs on my rank list [e.g. did my significant other at the time impact my list?] and my experience with match week.
Don't forget to to check out the blog entry [where I also share the love letter I personally sent as a medical student to my top choice program]: blog.amandaxi.com/2021/01/19/...

Hi Teri! Thanks for watching. My next scheduled video covers your request EXACTLY! It's like you knew it was coming =). Wednesday, Feb 3 @ 1PM EST the video + blog entry (blog.amandaxi.com) will go live. Can't wait for you to watch and let me know your thoughts!
Extremely helpful video! I'm a fellow Michigander as well! I am currently trying to make my rank list for pediatrics and it has been very hard this year with everything being over zoom. Also struggling with whether or not I want to leave Michigan, but looking forward to match day!

Hi Victoria! Thank you so much for watching the video - I'm glad you found it helpful. Glad to see another Michigander on here 🙌. I can't even imagine how hard it must be to try to figure out a rank list from virtual interviewing, but I have heard a number of applicants say that programs doing virtual "second looks" have been helpful. I know some applicants are actually driving out to see some of the cities their considering - maybe you could plan a road trip just to see if you could imagine yourself living in that area! Either way, GOOD LUCK!

@@AmandaSXiMD That's a really good idea to plan a little road trip to some of the programs that aren't too far away! I will definitely try to do that. Thanks again!
Very thoughtfull. Thank you.
