    Sellers should have the right to accept "returns" within 10 days the buyer receives the product and not 30 days

    I am over twice as old as you, and you are very wise kind sir! Thank you for this information. I recently retired and have been slowly building up sales on Ebay and FB Marketplace. You touched on all the topics that I need to hear! My pension doesn't go far enough...and frankly, finding resources and reselling them is kind of fun!

    Exactly the same here, Im disabled so nobody will employ me so I turn my little income into an acceptable income and next year I'm getting a storage unit and getting into the next level, bringing in around $1000 a month net right now so hope to get that to $2000 a month net would be my next goal.

    I had the biggest aha moment this week when I looked up an item I was sorting as far as listing, donating, or selling at the swap meet. I scanned a TV series that had an insane sell through rate. I told my boyfriend I’m not going to inventory this because it will sell for about $55 by the end of the day. Not 2 hours later… CHA CHING. That’s when I realized I get it. I really get it. It took me hearing it over and over again and finally living it and realizing I no longer want to drag around low asp and low str items. I’m done. I’m doing this the right way from here on out. I am quite the slow learner apparently. I want to thank you for staying consistent and hammering it in. I get why you say it so often, it’s because it’s SOOO TRUE. Old dog, new tricks 🤜🏼💥🤛🏼

    I blame KZread not ebay for thrift/charity shops prices, you guys advertise what we sell things for and trust me charity shops are watching every channel on KZread for what's selling

    Doubt it very much, I've volunteered at a few charity shops, and there's nothing quite like having to throw and smash donations to make people see a charity as a profit organisation . Volunteering completely opened my eyes to supposed non-profit organisations business practices, and I can assure you 99% of the staff or volunteers will not spend hours of their life trawling through videos to try maximise money made for ceo .

    @@richardwestwood1812 it's not the staff it's the higher ups, and they compile a list of items to pull for online sales based on BOLO videos, video games was one of the first things to be pulled this way when this method was used and they just kept adding to it. They give the employees said list and you pull the items if you don't you eventually get let go. All my local thrift stores even the small ones go by this method and also have their own ebay stores now. Goodwill in my area for example I've been going to for over a decade and know all the older employees, they started pulling video games when that craze hit youtube, now they've just branched off that since a big one they pull now is Harley Davidson shirts for online sales, if you sell harley shirts you know most of them unless they're vintage with a good graphics don't sell for much in the online market but they went off of videos where people found expensive Harley shirts and thus they made the list as a name just like video games, they don't have employees look thru every single one, they just do it by category. It's not like they have to spend hours watching videos you can just literally type in Reseller best sellers or BOLO items watch a few vids and make a generic list. We have a few smaller mom and pop thrifts in my area also i never woulda thought they woulda went this route but two years ago they've did the samething because they felt like they were missing out on more money, so they too now have a list they follow of things to pull and what makes the brick and mortar floor. They mark up all their vintage sports jackets now, they learned that from videos not randomly searching ebay lol.

    I have tried both Poshmark and Mercari, and have sold more on my return to eBay in 30 days than I’ve sold on both of those platforms in 2 years. We’ve found that Mercari shoppers are looking for dollar bargains for quality, new items…so not cool or profitable so I’m sticking with EBay!

    Yes Tax on second hand items where tax was already paid. Plus shipping plus whatever Ebay make up.. The only thing they don't charge for is window tax..

    @@avwise4565 I've had such bad experiences as a buyer on Mercari I refuse to sell there. Every item received from Mercari was broken, looked like toddler packed it, or flat out sent the wrong item. It reminded me of eBay circa 2000.

    yup I call it the NO-good will/will do no-good...a so called non-profit that gets everything for nothing, don't have to pay for delivery, prices are way too high, cust service is dodgy, smells terrible inside, lighting is poor, prices are marked w/ hard to read stickers, there are NO returns and no exchanges and no negotiation (they will argue w/you on something they paid NOTHING for) and rarely any sales, if ever...a total SCAM...and CEO makes millions...boycott the bast...rds

    I have never seen so many sellers and new videos complaining about eBay than I have recently. Long time sellers are leaving because of many reasons including eBay's growing greed with things like promoted listings, they continue to make their algorithm worse and worse, unexplained periods of time where nothing sells (servers down, throttling or capping of sales), lack of support and transparency for sellers, the constant need for activity gets worse with time while other platforms you list and forget it (most of us are part-time sellers but now put in full-time hours without the return in investment that we used to get back), etc. eBay rant over but I appreciate your informative videos.

    yeah i agree with this. ebay takes way much more of my time to maintain than poshmark and mercari. Which is saying something considering people complain Poshmark is too time consuming because of the sharing. I spend much more time on customer service/returns on ebay than on the other platforms. Not to mention every time ebay makes a change I basically have to spend hours fixing my whole store. When they automatically opted me into business policies it created 30 different shipping and handling business policies and I didn't even realize it. When I tried to change my handling time to go on vacation, I had to go through and delete all the business policies and it was not a quick and easy process. Same thing with the change to ground advantage, it took me a good 2-3 hours to fix my listings. I just don't feel like I get a good enough return on ebay compared to my other platforms...it mainly has to do with what I'm selling which is women's clothing. And I'm mainly selling to my generation which mostly doesn't use ebay.

    Dont forget how they purposely keep you in lower seller scores to be able to charge us 38% more in sellers fees! And not to mention the money spent just trying to get seen again constantly

    I purposely don’t sell items on eBay over $300 because I have zero faith they will make an object decision. They’ve made it clear a buyer can return an item within 30 days for any reason even stealing it or destroying it. I have already started the cross listing journey to move away from eBay.     Or longer. I have returns turned on Buyer pays shipping if they return for issue beyond my control. I had a guy buy a shirt wear it for 3 weeks. Then submit for a return and shipped it 2 weeks later. Said it didn’t fit. lol just silly.

    I'm in the same boat. Actually I don't really list items over $100 on ebay. Which is fine because I can sell those items all day long on my other platforms with no bad buyer issues.

    @@mayakoyama9130 yes the bad buyers seem to be prolific on eBay , im new only selling since August and an easy target so to speak. I had a buyer cancel after i accepted her offer , the item has a very high sell through rate so the cancellation is really no big deal as i know it will sell soon and for more $ The buyer paid at approx 2 am Saturday morning hoping i would ship Saturday then sent a message late Sunday that she wanted to cancel , it was not his size, bypassing eBays cancellation option she has. In the meantime i had already payed for the shipping label , before she sent the message, and had it prepared to ship Monday morning. Im quite sure she thinks it has been shipped. Thankfully i did not ship it ! So now im stuck until i reach out to eBay to ask them what i should do as their policy is i must ship it because she has not cancelled through eBay , if i cancel on my end it could possibly be a defect against me. Someone else tried the same thing but eBay told me i had to ship because she would not respond. So far that one has been no further action and hopefully eBay will back me up if needed as they did also see her message and that she was not responding as she was requesting i change the order to a similar but different item. Another buyer got an item for half price as she claimed it was damaged in shipping but she was fine with keeping it for half a refund , which i did do. Nice ! It was no great loss as i had zero cost other than my time and shipping so i still made a few bucks but the item was something i may never find again. Ive also had a return on a rare hard to find item claiming it did not fit, ummmm i do show the measurements , she did send it back in good condition but im out the shipping cost and a prime opportunity to sell a Dallas Cowboy item on Thanksgiving weekend ! ARRRRGGG ! lol ! I gotta get this block buyer thing going for sure ! as soon as i learn how to do it. In the end i get it , this is normal consumer behavior, fickle, and i don't have the experience YET !

    Shipping. I semi package fragile or large items, so that I I am not way off in calculating it. Returns can be discouraging, but they can be rare, if you are honest in your description and photos. Sometimes it can be that you lacked knowledge of the item and with no bad intention, gave wrong data about it. It's important to be careful in researching an item, as some items can look similar but are not the same. On sourcing, be alert, you sometimes come across things laid by the garbage that have value. I have found stuff thrown at construction sites, alley way, and even left out at the apartment complex I live in, and no, it isn't a rich people complex. Yard sales, moving sales and estate sales can be the very best place to get great items at very low prices. I also by lots or auctions on eBay, and also buying stuff on Facebook marketplace, but you have to be very careful, because sometimes lots have lots of junk. Promoted listing is good for general merchandise, where there is lots of competition. But if your Selling items that are the good brand names, vintage, collectibles, Antique, unique custom, you don't really need to promote much, I usually just do the 2% Pricing, lol, you just need to see eBay completed sale and you will get a good Idea of what they sell for, you have to keep in mind, your particular item, is it complete, is it in good shape, this will add or take away from the market value. I believe pricing is super important in regard to getting sales, the other is the product itself, if a product has no demand or has only a small niche, then it will not sell for a long time or not at all.

    No matter what all these Ebay Gurus say about online reselling, it is a time consuming job. Between finding items, storing items, listing items, finding shipping material, packing up items and then sending them off by whatever carrier you use at the end of the day, you have spent a ton of time and effort. Sometimes I am happy that things are slow with online sales, because it gives me a break from dealing with all of this. I like to find items that have value, not only to me as personal use items, but letting them go as a reseller can give me some satisfaction that I have turned a profit on some of my time and effort. At no time did I ever consider this a full time job, just an entertaining hobby that lets me find unique items. If I wanted a full time job, I would have remained employed at my previous full time job and then punched out at the end of the day.

    100% correct! I used to casually sell here and there in eBay but the beginning of this year I started selling more. It is exhausting work as you said! Finding the stuff cleaning it, never mind trying to store it so your house doesn’t look a hoarder etc….I’m averaging 56 hours a day at least. Might be the hardest job I ever had and I’ve had some tough ones.

    I'm a seller from 1998. Boy, what a difference! Prices at Goodwill, etc. were so reasonable. You could sell everything quickly and at a great price. The ebay charges were very low, I think in the 3.5% range. I've had to start selling again because of a loss of income. It's really hard. I'm trying to learn as quickly as possible. Wish it was 1998 again.

    You'll get there! People still love to buy things online. I have found it's all about momentum and listing great items every day. When you have knowledge and a good eye, you can make consistent sales. I've enjoyed seeing some of the unique not notable brand items sell very fast.

    It's all about selling what people want and there will always be people with money who want things. It's super simple, but not super easy. I agree with you on the glitch complaints too - I don't experience them much and when they happen they are so temporary they are barely noticeable. All platforms have glitches. Good video.

    I’m about ready to squeeze the trigger on resale, but doing my research first. One thing that should never change is the willingness to learn something new, and a genuine effort to make a positive change. Thanks for the tutorial and heads up- I wish you well as you do your audience. One thing I stopped doing is down talking myself. I learned 2 very important things here on earth. We are responsible for what we do. We are responsible for what we don’t do. Many of us will have to unlearn much of what we’ve learned in our childhood, in order to succeed in our future. Starting to rant here, but the best gift in life is learning along the way, and using that knowledge to better ourselves, whether it be financially or psychologically and emotionally.

    Really good video/conversation. My 2 cents is the reason sales have slumped for most resellers out there is because there are so many new platforms and competition that eBay has given up some of the market share to these competing platforms. Personally I have only sold on eBay and relented selling on other platforms for years so all my eggs are in an eBay basket lol. This upcoming year I will begin to cross list to Posh and I hope that brings in more sales. I think another reason for slumped sales is that resellers who promote at higher rates usually get better results in sales, 4 months ago I began promoting no higher than 2.9% and coincidentally enough my eBay sales have gone down 25-30% since then when compared to same months last year but I am ok with that if it means more take home pay on the sales that do come in. Good luck to us all however because there is a lot of doom and gloom predictions for our economy this upcoming year.

    Your volume level is perfect now. I can hear you much much better now. Thank you for addressing that. I think eBay itself is pretty much easier now than it was 10yrs ago, but what is getting me is that Thrift Stores are starting to raise their prices to just about even with eBay asking or even sold comp prices. If that continues then eBay asking prices are going to have to go up too. Now I have to be very vigilant when I'm sourcing inventory at the Thrift Stores.

    Thanks for your content brother. I live towards the Eastern end of Long Island NY and I notice the thrift shops out here charge pretty crazy prices for clothing. I started with thrifting and RA but doing a lot of RA and OA now so I’ve been out of the game as far as thrifts etc. Like an adidas zip-up for twenty something when depending the time of year or month of deals I can find a/tags maybe cheaper of same price. And we have Riverhead clothing outlets as well like 20-30 min away it’s like come on man lol. But again your content is A+ my sister has been trying to get into reselling I’ve been sending her your videos 🙏

    Is it getting easier or harder? Depends if you are swimming with the tide or against it. I thought my grandfather was the most stubborn man alive but there are content creators who would rather spend time trying to “trick” or “beat” eBay, then source high sell through items. It’s amazing

    Shipping nor returns are an issue for me. I base my choice of shipping options on how much it costs and in 4 years have had maybe 4 or 5 returns.     I have sold on eBay for seven years. My sales were usually women's clothing for three years. Then, I started to sell cuttings of plants and trees. This is a lot of work. I have returning and referred customers for my plants. I want to sell small items. I will be 77 years of age next week. I love your videos and I have learned so much today. Hopefully, I can find small items to sell.

    I have been selling on the eBay platform for 22 years. The key is to be organized, list daily & lowest purchase prices is the key to profits. Always follow up with your customer service. Keep good records then everything will fall in place.

    To be honest I think it's a lot of the KZread channels that give false hope to beginners. Obviously if you share all your information with people they're going to do the exact same thing you do which creates more competition in the marketplace. In turn less sales. I'm sure most of the KZreadrs that share their information think they're helping people (which is noble) but it saturates the marketplace. I personally sell used lawn mower parts so I don't see a lot of competition and I haven't had a dip in sales but the traditional thrift store / garage sale routine is going to faze itself out. I don't think the KZread money is going to be worth it in the long run for the damage that all the eBay influencers do to the marketplace.

    This is EXACTLY what happened to the bath and beauty industry.. a few handful of KZreadrs ruined everything by giving out recipes and proprietary information and the rest is history. Very saturated market now. Closed my business 2 years ago.

    We quit this month after many years. Being forced to give out actual bank statements and photo ID to the 23 evil companies, including Black Rock, that own eBay was the final straw.

    You have to verify your identity and you do in every platform. Thank the government. Anyrhing Blackrock wants to know about you they will find out from lots of places not just Ebay.

    I can't thank you enough for this video, excellent advice as always. Started selling in late July and had a handful of sales each week, After finding your channel and listening to your advice and taking action on your suggestions (and other youtubers), my sales have slowly built up to 3 - 5 a day, maybe not great numbers, but they're moving in the right direction. Personally I like the direction ebay is taking and have no issues with their fee structure or paying taxes, given the alternative of starting from scratch with a ecommerce or brick & mortar store.

So many things have changed in the shopping world over the past even five years that we have to be able to adapt and overcome and change. That’s a good business person that’s why you’re successful. You constantly learn And you look and search for answers and you are willing to change the way you do things. I’m sure even over the year the past year you have changed things to make them work. I congratulate you and I appreciate you and you’re sharing your information. There are several of your videos that I’m going to go back and rewatch, especially sourcing videos because I live in such an isolated area That it’s hard to source in the winter time because of the snow in the blizzard in the closed interstate. I am blessed to have access to several thrift shops where items sell for one dollar, two dollars. Jeans are two dollars. But as you say, you got to find things that have a decent self rate or they’re not worth buying. Thank you again for taking the time to share your knowledge. Blessings.

    I hear what you are saying, but if I find a Pendelton wool shirt in Aug and look up the sell thru rate its not good, but Im still going to pick it up. If you deal in clothing somethime it hits the trift stores out of season and you need to get it and wait. Big companies buy 6 monts plus out. just a thought

    Interesting video. I think we also have so many more reselling platform options than ever before and we’re naturally going to prefer one over the other. eBay used to have limited competition, so you had to “like” it, but now with poshmark, whatnot, depop etc people can choose one that fits better with their style or personality. I feel eBay looks a little dated and feels like an older platform. I also think it missed a huge opportunity to pioneer live reselling. I still sell on eBay, but I doubt that I will be 5 years from now.

    Finally, I watch a youtube channel that speaks truth on promoted listings. I resell mainly men's clothing as my niche and I ABSOLUTELY do NOT mind paying eBay a few extra bucks to gain thousands in sales. I promote across the board similar to you at 3% and do not want to put in the effort of knowing which ones need more or none of the Promoted listings, so I simply manage my promoted listings via the Marketing feature across the board

    You sound like you may have sold 5 parts in those 10 years. Ebay's search is currently broken, unless you think buyers like seeing 1000's of sponsored items instead of the item they are looking for. How about chargeback fraud, or people buying a new part and then returning their used part back to you, oh wait, you sell used junk, you don't run into these issues.

    The shipping option (I don’t know the items weight or dementions) is forced and fees are what drove me to quit, but eeven apps like mercari and poshmark are copying ebay shipping fees.

    The thrift shops in NYC are full-blown retail, sometimes higher. I constantly see houseware items selling 10 to 20 percent above Target/Walmart prices. The only thing you can get a deal on is furniture; the shops are so small they have to move large pieces the same day because they don’t have the room to store them overnight.

    Some days I love my thrifts and some days I hate them lol, it's just luck of the draw. Sure prices are high but they're high at the grocery store too lol. Some daysd I leave with two bags and like 18 items for 24 bucks and somedays I leave empty handed. I think the important part is sticking to your guns and if that's passing up good stuff because of bad pricing then you do just that. A couple of the goodwills around me have reaaaaaally gotten outta hand with their 'select' racks, but that's something they have to live with. They're literally pricing out people who just casually shop and want to find cool stuff for themselves AS WELL AS pricing out re-sellers by trying to take a piece of our profit margins on these things. Just let that stuff sit.

    I sold a pair of Vans today! I got them from a Goodwill looking absolutely brand new and they were the cool ones with the lightning bolt and red and black. I got $30 but it was a nice quick flip. They were $8 at my thrif which is rule and has tons of pictures in it all the time buying stuff constantly. I believe they can keep their prices low because there's people constantly their buying stuff and picking and it's a rural community.

Instead we get the If I knew now what videos. the Haul videos crack me up. the best ones are where they WERE there first, found the patagonia and vintage levi jacket, and then stage the scene as if they just strolled in off a hangover at 2pm and found the stuff hanging there. My favorite places you will never find in an urban area are the rural garage sales. Where they walk up and there's a box full of new unopened xbox games for a buck each. Or vintage levi jackets hanging from a tree.."would ya take $10 for all 5?' Nothing has killed the business worse than these fake scenarios.

    Ive been very very inconsistent listing lately. Some days nothing at all. I am currently sitting at 32 items (6% of my whole store!) sold between Friday afternoon and right now. Get the algorithm mentality out of your head, in my opinion. Focus on quality of item and quality of listing and you cant go wrong.

    @@terrigeorge4279 Ive been focusing on items with 80%+ sell through rate because I dont want to take up too much storage space and needlessly inflate my listing count with junk. There are outliers like seasonal items and items that are unique/rare, but for the most part, things are moving quickly. Ive added clothing to my store recently, and thats been pretty good as well.

    Bought a junior golf club for $1.99 sold it for 24.99 free shipping, I paid $7 in shipping.... guy wanted to return it... then out of nowhere he canceled the return... pretty sure he got to the post office and they tried charging him an absurd amount ...most likely around purchase price

    I’ve been here a little over a month when I started selling stuff after combining homes with my partner. Now I’m addicted. I’ve always loved thrifting. Always been a collector naturally (vintage clothes, antique furniture) the fees are frustrating, that you make good points about the platform and provide the services they provide. Since November 2 I’ve had 36 sales gross profit over $1500 I’ve had zero returns, but I have had to cancel a couple of orders. One I somehow missed calculated for they miss calculated the shipping and handling of a pressure cooker and would’ve lost my money. She was cool with it. Similar situation happened again so definitely interested in the scale and measure before deciding on shipping. Thx

    You can choose to not offer returns. I don't, even for clothing items. I've never had a problem. The only exception is if an item arrives damaged but I require photos and even then I just file a claim with the shipping carrier and get a full refund.

    ebay is at its worst right now. I complained this morning that i have not had a new view on any of my listings in the last 7 days even after promoting. I swear within 10 minutes of complaining i got 2 sales, nothing since. I took pictures as proof .Its unbelievable how tough it is now. I hate promoted listings. Your not lolkng at promoted listings correctly

    @@Amandahugginkizz promoted listings don’t either. Just because you promote a listing doesn’t mean you get views, its all controlled by ebay and a rep told me that himself. I can copy and paste my own item into ebay and still come up with no results even though copied word for word. Go figure

    I don’t know if it’s harder or easier because I just started this year. However, I actually like eBay’s shipping because I can use it to offset some of the fees if I price things well (with eBay’s discounts on shipping).

    Yea agree. I don’t remember being rattled by shipping at first. It was more ducking scammers and returns for people swapping parts/ items. I loved shipping from the get go. The discount covers my shipping supplies/ fees on shipping. That’s kinda what I see it as.

    The reason people are leaving Ebay is because it is getting more expensive to sell on Ebay. But imho, Ebay is still the better choice as compared to Amazon. Amazon is super expensive to sell on, they restrict what you can sell more than Ebay does, and Amazon will give a customer a refund for almost any reason at all. Amazon, imho, promotes returns and encourages customers to send things back. Yes, Ebay's promoted listing fees add up, but it's still cheaper to sell on Ebay than it is to sell on Amazon. I am not saying Amazon is bad, but I do want to point out that Ebay is the better choice.
