You should put evans red hydraulic heads on a blue vistalite kit and make it an "imax kit"
What do you all think about me making a jelly bean Vistalite kit? 🤔 *The plotter is a Cameo 3 & I used Goof Off Graffiti Remover to remove the logo. Links in the description!*

I LOVE THAT FLOOR TOM
A blue Vistalite kit was one of the things that turned me onto drums in the first place! Thanks for rescuing this bass drum!

Dude, you are a wizard!!! Loved watching this restoration, especially with all your personal touches.
Big fan of all your restoration videos! It's great to see well-used shells and drums being restored and even upgraded from what they may have been originally. You do great work, keep it up!
Watching these vids have made me a Ludwig lover..
Your work inspires me over and over again to find new uses for the gear that I have. Thanks!
Awesome job! Dig the playing at the end, particularly that linear-style tom groove.
The vinyl cutting is the most pleasing thing I’ve seen in awhile. Amazing when shit works out
An awesome Video!!! It was great to see you playing something different during the demonstration as you usually would play. I would love to see different songs in your future videos 😊
Dude your drum tones have gotten so much better in the last few videos. These things sound great!
Cool, I play the vista-lites everyday, love them so much.1978 was when I started on the blue set and we still have them today. Got the Bonham set 16 years ago and never looked back/Let Us Rock On
Ok love the linear groove and fills at the end. Gonna have to steal that!!
Really dig the more active editing during your playing. I think it adds more excitement to the shots. Great work, as always.
It all comes down to sound and you’ve got a totally solid kick drum! Great work!
Your series is amazingly wonderful! What a great hobby and your woodworking/mechanical skills are interesting. In addition, I always enjoy and appreciate your jam sessions at the end of the episode. Nice work all the way around!
This video is sick dude, I love the new content you are putting out man keep it up
Great vid! I love how you made the Ludwig logo a RdavidR logo with the same looks! Way to go David!
That looks so nice! I love see-through drum shells, they're so cool to me.

I love the slappy thud sound. Great job on getting it up and running, no one turns lost property into gold like you do, as always great video.
Rdavidr why are you so cool! your videos are entertaining as heck man. I can't stop watching. plus your camera skills are impeccable.
Not sure how I got this, but I truly enjoyed it... your passion is appreciated. Back in the late 70’s when I started playing I was practically given a Vistalite Ludwig set, and I sold it and bought a nice Slingerland set (I’m a huge Bill Ward fan)... I kept the snare and the pedal tho... it did have a nice hard sound that I could never find anywhere else. I haven’t played for years but I love your passion. Thanks again...
Sounds and looks great! Fantastic job on the hoops as well.
A good friend and I completely reconditioned a full set of Vistalite clear drums he purchased. No missing parts but we polished out every (dam) mark on all of the shells, (no cracks or spider webed holes, wow). That included some wet sanding the worst of the marks, then used Novus 3, Novus 2 and Novus 1 (great stuff) to bring them back nearly like new. Hardware started off in good shape (replaced the worn out tom mounts) so a round of polishing with a bench mounted machine to get them up to real good. Anyway, like new now..... er.... took a LOT?? of hours. Super nice guy, fun to work together with a friend and he LOVES them. He had to try lots of different heads and tunings until he was happy with that aspect, but I'm no drummer and couldn't help with that.
I love seeing your uploads! Good video man.
You know, cool projects aside it's really awesome watching you get better and better at playing drums.
That bass drum sounds phenomenal!
I had a blue Ludwig 1977 Vistalite for 35 years great Kit. & You got groove too.
Great sounding kit
That beat you were playing in the end was dope I'm totally learning that
I bought a four piece shell pack of this same kit from my uncle years ago and managed to restore three of the shells :) old late 70's model in the same blue. Great sounding set, you did a great job bringing her back to life!
Man you’re sounding great in this video! Mean bass and snare combo
Ludwigs are awesome! When I was 15 I asked for some drums, but we couldn’t afford much. So we got the cheapest, most embarrassing used kit from our local shop.. A 70’s Ludwig cortex 3pc with 24” kick. I used to be teased for having such an uncool setup haha! I’m so glad I kept it, they’re the only shells I’ll ever want.
We need to see an rdavidr version of every drum company logo now that you've done this, you do realize?

Awesome upload! Very creative use of the vinyl cutter!
Modern day genius you are my friend ! Great work as always
Man that was a sick beat you played near the end
Nice job, and nice vid. That snare sounds incredible.
Cool! I recently did pretty much exactly this with a 1965 Ludwig super classic bass drum shell (3ply with reinforcement rings). It also turned out pretty great. I went with the “new” atlas mount spurs though... I kind of regret that. Otherwise I’m super happy with how the drum came out. Welcome to the Ludwig rabbit hole David! 😁🥁
Sounds great!
I think the bass drum spurs you used are an upgrade, as far as stability. I never liked the curved legs...too much wobble. Great work, beats, and video, as always!! So glad I subscribe!
@sticksbass

@CBRansom35
5 жыл бұрын
@@sticksbass I'm sure you're right. The more I think about it, the last time I played a Ludwig with those curved legs was my grade school when I was about 10 years old. Didn't know enough how to adjust them and probably had the resonant side of the drum too far off the floor, causing the wobble.
@sticksbass
5 жыл бұрын
the only way it can wobble is if the legs aren't out enough. if things are strong enough i like to raise the resonant side up a little so the legs are weighted and spiked into the carpet so it wont creep. the way most legs are now i worry about the smooth rods slipping.
@calroden3558

My experience playing with a vista was always that the bass drums legs were a bit shite. Could be down to me setting them up badly but i did find them to be a bit on the wobbly side.

@@calroden3558 well, i had a ludwig vista kit w curved spurs as a teen and never had any wobbling w it and i covered y&t's come on over w it.
Wow this is awesome!
Is never too late to jump into the Ludwig mania, i had borrowed a beautiful c pattern Vistalite clear and orange stripes, the 22 kick drum with a blanket inside was the bomb, the best kick drum i ever played
Nice restoration I love doing these in my free time
Making your own custom kit, very impressive 😍
Diggin’ that RdavidR logo. Love it!
love the time change fill.
When my original spurs for my 76’ Vista finally bit the dust I went for those DW mountable ones that go right on the hoop. now that I know the ones you got...I may switch them out. Also that decal is fantastic! 👍🏻👌🏻
Super nice Chanel! You deserve at least 1 million subscribers ,cheers mate
Nice work Dave!
Like Vistalite drums..I have a 1976 vintage Ludwig Vistalite kit in pretty good shape alas the 9 x 13" tom has a vertical shell crack in line with the muffler mount and shell tag. Still plays well so I just live with it.
Wow luv what you did!!!👍
Great video and amazing sound on the bass drum! Could you make a video on tuning a Vistalite set?
great drum recording at the end niceeeee
I really like the sound.
Sounds killer, bro!
Dude oh my god tight logo on the bass drum it’s perfect
That kick sounds epic. My dad has a full custom vistalite set and that kick looks just like ours
I just did the exact same thing with a Slingerland Bass drum. And then toms, and floor toms. Ended up with a complete kit.
Great Videos. Keep It Up. You inspire me to refurbish my drumset.
Sweet kick drum. Sounds good
I love the Chicago Music Exchange!! I go there all the time because I live close and it is my most favorite music shop! Also while this is potentially being read, I love the channel!
Nice sounding bass drum!
YES FINALLY ANOTHER DRUM RESTORATION VIDEO
It sounds massive, wow.
Why was I under the impression that this whole process is highly illegal? Oh wait, it was the mysterious backing track! I loved that.
Really cool drum solo at the end, rdr.

It's almost better you just got the shell, now it's really YOUR drum and all the personal touches etc. Looks sick
Really good work on the floor Tom I love your name on white snare 🙏💕💕💖❤️💕
Awesome video! Just a little tip from someone who spends a lot of time finishing wood, you should look into using a grain filler when staining wood. If you stain/dye the filler a fair bit darker than you want the final finish to be, let it try then stain the wood, it just gives it so much more depth and looks like the woods coloured that way instead of having that "looking at it through coloured glasses" look. Also, buy the filler bare, and stain it yourself, just much cheaper that way and is obviously more versatile as you can stain it any colour. Also, really don't be afraid to stain the filler really dark. When I do mahogany (mahogany is almost a pinkish orange from nature, that brown red look your use to when you hear mahogany is purely stains and dyes) I still stain the filler black, and it comes out amazing and does not make the mahogany look too dark or anything.
Your the man!
Awesome!!
nice video man!
My buddy has a blue Vista kit and his bass drum has probably about a 15 inch vent hole in the center and that kick drum will punch a hole in your heart if you're standing close to it
Was worth putting together just to play that beat cuz it sounded killer!!
Awesome. Love the rescue videos. There's just something about old Ludwig stuff. I found a 70's thermogloss kit in a buddys basement. It was alot of work but it sounds so freakin retro and sweet! I didn't like the price of the spurs online either. I find those spurs shitty anyways. I pieced together a few old ones and I took the rubber feet right off and staright up sharpened the metal so it grips the carpet.
He's crafty!
Maybe you mentioned this and I just missed it, but what size is it? It looks like a 24. Take out the laundry, put a felt strip across the front and let her BOOM!!🤘🏻🤘🏻
Nice bro! I love it!! I am a bassist but i love playing drums. But.. Every time ive owned a kit, ive either had someone steal stuff or have had to get ride of it. But damn. I love drumming.
Groove at 8:00. I’m stealing it. Vintage Vistas look great, we’re a beast to keep dust free, stage eye candy, sounded pretty good, add some shell lights…hated the feel! (Just me.) Your amazing! Loved the RDavidR logo.

That Floor Tom though....😊
