Woodshed Wilma chose nobody. She was literally dumped on his doorstep by someone. You could argue that it was fate, but the cat definitely didn't choose to be dumped.

I notice with cats, you should show you are open, but not be all over them, like people often are with a puppy. You let the cat decide when and if it wants contact. He seemed to follow that.

It is likely the mother cat left the kitten there. They do abandon those with a disability or that for some other reason fall out of favour. Many of our extended cat family came to us that way.

The cat distribution system is a real thing, I have a brother and sister duo named Donny and Marie that own me and my husband. They are the babies and rule this house, it’s a good thing.

The cat distribution system is real. My neighbor has tons of cats that roam around the property and one of them just wandered into our house one day and made herself at home and she’s been here ever since.

The cat distribution is how we got our three girls. My husband who “hated cats” had them run up to him one at a time (months apart) after being dumped and brought them inside. After 40yrs of “hating cats” he realized he is a cat AND dog guy!

Actually, when you said it wouldn’t let you come within ten feet, it was giving the two-eyed wink that says, “Hi, I’m friendly”. But it was also nervous. Three things you can do that sets cats at ease. 1. Don’t keep staring directly at them, it’s quite confrontational if a cat doesn’t know you. 2. Face away at a slight angle and give a big (but quietish) yawn. 3. Give them a slow two-eyed blink, and lift your chin briefly as you do it, a little upward nod.

He seemed to manage just fine and I'm so happy he did. So many folks do not know how to "introduce" themselves to cats that are shy, but hopefully this will help them.

I had Samuel who was known around the neighborhood because he was a B&E artist. I had to go get him many times. He passed away just over 3 years ago at 19. Everyone still tells me how much they liked and miss him which isn’t nearly as much as I miss him. Very busy to nearly the end and not a mean bone in his body. I don’t think I ever heard him hiss though I’m sure he did.
