@@jakovjurin6855 as a spaniard I must say I defend the current parliamentary monarchy, also the king hasn't got a lot of power but he isn't a puppet either, he has some legislative power and is the one who signs official documents.

I have met him once, shaked his hand and shared some thoughts. His eyes were deep blue I have never seen before! And so powerful and noble... He would have been an amazing King! I will always consider him as the last true noble sovereign! God Bless Him!!!

Do you know that Franco offered him the spanish crown and he refused? He said the days of the Austrias were went and suggested him to call a Bourbon instead. Wish he hadnt, the Bourbons dont reach the Habsburgs soles

As a Hungarian I feel always at least a little home as long as I am within the former borders of the Habsburg Empire, be it in Austria, Bosnia or anywhere else. And, it is so beautiful that Otto Habsburg was a sovereign, for whom people of various nations sang "Gott erhalte" with their heart.

The end of great monarchies, descended from Charlemagne makes me quite sad and humbled.

Die "Vereinigung" Deutschlands war ja nix anderes, als die Herrschaft der Hohenzollern-Dynastie sehr gewalttätig zu erweitern. Wofür? Damit sich Wilhelm Kaiser nennen kann. Dafür wurden (Hundert)tausende geopfert. Abscheulich.

Warum auch? Und wer sollte das machen? Die EKD? Und wo bitte, im Berliner Dom? Die Habsburger Monarchie war übrigens im Unterschied zum Königreich Preußen ein multiethnischer Staat (sieht man von der großen polnischen Minderheit in den preußischen Provinzen Posen und Westpreußen ab); und die Donaumonarchie besaß unterschiedlichste Rechtsordnungssysteme, mehrere Amtssprachen, die alle nebeneinander existierten. Dieser Kaiserhymne gab es nicht nur auf Deutsch, sondern auch auf Ungarisch, auf Tschechisch, auf Kroatisch, auf Polnisch, auf Ruthenisch, auf Rumänisch und selbst auf Italienisch. Und nicht zuletzt: Österreich und Ungarn waren nach Innen zentralstaatlich organisierte Gebilde (trotz des Fortbestands der Königreiche Böhmen oder Kroatien und Slawonien und ihrer besonderen Rechte innerhalb der zis- oder transleithanischen Reichshälfte) mit einer gemeinsamen gesamtstaatlichen Außen- und Kriegspolitik. Der 1871 gegründete Staatenbund Deutsches Reich hatte keine eigene Armee, und bis 1900 hatte er nicht einmal ein gemeinsames Zivilrecht, eine echte Regierung hatte er auch nicht, weil es mit Ausnahme des Kanzlers keine Minister des „Reiches“ gab. Wenn in der heutigen Republik Österreich also die Kaiserhymne zu Ehren von Franz Joseph I. oder seinem Großneffen erklingt, dann wird damit mitnichten irgendeine deutsch-nationale Vergangenheit beschworen, sondern ein multiethnisches, multireligiöses (man denke an das muslimische Bosnien-Hercegovina, seit 1908 annektiert, aber auch an das orthodoxe Ruthenien oder das protestantische bzw. atheistische Böhmen), multikulturelles Imperium, das mit den Ideen eines auf Deutschland fixierten Patriotismus oder Nationalismus so viel zu tun hatte, wie eine Kuh mit dem Eierlegen.

@@seangallagher5695 Looking at the Habsburg monarchy grand title in here sadly reminds me that despite Otto von Habsburg was first introduced with almost all his former title as Crown Prince and all the Habsburg ones, the most important and iconic title for the Habsburgs which is the Archduke of Austria was omitted on his funeral

It's sad that we no longer gonna see these moments being more hopefully,frequent and remembered

I know this tune from always and I don't recall ever ever learning it. My parents are political refugees from Hungary of 1956. I don't know partially what my ancestor's background was... Really a shame... However my paternal grandma was from Ulm. I imagine how it happened that I've been taught (accidentally rather) this tune.. Anyway, I looked up the lyrics and sing it out loud walking through the Forrest here, keeping alive something from the past of my ancestors.. It makes me dream and wonder 😋💖✌️

You'll probably know this tune because it's the German anthem, the Deutschlandlied. Composed by Haydn for the emperor some time ago it somehow became the melody of the Deutschlandlied. The anthem of the GDR, Auferstanden aus Ruinen, was also composed by an Austrian - Hannes Eisler.

I miss him 😢

It would have been funnier if the president and the chancellor had sung along, especially the last lines. :-)

There was a good video of the Austria President bashing the singing of the royal anthem. As he talked the Federal flag fell. Otto was showing him who was boss.

"Vitam et sanguinem pro rege nostro!" " Our life and blood for the queen/king ". The Kingdom of Hungary ( under Hapsburg rule ) sent 11 hussar regiments ( nearly 35.000 well-trained hussars ) to protect Maria Theresa's throne from Prussian and French influences. That's how we helped our Hapsburg ruler.

Es wäre heuchlerisch wenn Bundespräsident, Bundeskanzler usw. bei der Kaiserhymne mitgesungen hätten, finde ich. Sie haben im die letzte Ehre erwiesen mit ihrem besuch, so wie er es sich verdient hat und so wie es sich gehört!

Lang lebe das Heilige Römische Reich Deutscher Nationen !

Und zwar den ganzen Text und nicht nur dieses Fragment. Die Hymne von 1797 wurde dem damaligen deutschen Kaiser Franz gewidmet. Das Haus Habsburg stellte bis 1806 den deutschen Kaiser. Das sollte jeder Österreicher und jeder Deutsche wissen. Wir gehören seit Jahrhunderten zu einem Volk.
