Cool! Question- is the insulator lid only for use when it is not lit? Or after you light it, do you set the insulator over the flame?

Yes, just when you aren’t using it! It will keep the rain out when you aren’t using it!

You would achieve the same effect by buying a proper glass chimney, not destroying the burners and using the lamps as they were intended to be used. You would also get light from the lamps. I collect oil lamps and frankly this is a ridiculous video. Oil lamps do not need to be repurposed. During a power outage they give both light and heat.

I’m glad you collect them! Any time we can use something old as intended or not I love it! Notice that I used ones that are not highly sought after and I got for $2. Better repurposed than in the dump🤷🏼‍♀️

The fact of the matter is they will still work as bug repellent torches if used properly with the glass chimneys and not destroying the burners. Perhaps because I live in the costly NE your two dollar purchases in any antique shop would run at the very lowest for 18 up to about 50 dollars if the burners have not not been destroyed. Two of the lamps to my left as I look at your video have eagle burners which are no longer made, are hard to find and are considered to be quite good. I guess we will have to agree to disagree! good luck with you channel.
