Republican STUNNED By Simple Answer To His Childcare Question

Republican Senator John Kennedy asked a panel of experts on childcare policy how they expect the US government to fund expanded childcare for parents since the COVID pandemic. Economist Kathryn Anne Edwards notes that government revenue comes from taxes, so the idea should be to raise taxes, and that the $2 trillion dollar tax cuts for the wealthy that have passed through Congress in the last 20 years have done nothing to make childcare more affordable.

Republicans always run away when they know that they can't win the argument. Republicans are basically cowards who can't handle criticism or anyone who doesn't believe the same things as they do. Basically Republicans are little children who throw tantrums when they don't get their way and the biggest baby of them all is their leader Donald Trump who constantly spitts his dummy and stomps his feet when we wish he would just hold his breath and do the world a favour.

And the economy was generally better, current moment aside. The tax structure during WWII placed the marginal tax at around 93%. This was continued into 1965. In that time economic growth was high and with distribution/ disparity was far mor equitable. Families could buy homes and education costs were far more reasonable. Ending the WWII tax tax structure was part of the Democratic to do list and it was accomplished. Meanwhile investment in the War in Vietnam, going to the moon, the arms race, as well as the Great Society with Medicare, Medicaid, and a crazy welfare system began to affect the deficits and debt. Add to that the oil crisis of 1973 and by 1974 the U.S. was in a stagflation situation. High marginal taxes establishes a progressive tax structure that nevertheless allows for affluence without wretched excess. But that was never enough for the rapacious and greedy uber-wealthy.

I talked to a trump supporter today who was shocked at the idea I could say republicans intend to cut medicare, social security etc. Said no way. I mentioned they wrote it down plus plan to raise eligiblity to 69. Since she's mentioned she only had one benefit when she used to have two, you have to wonder who she thinks is responsible for that. Biden apparently is a socialist communist to which I pointed out not just the things such ideas provide that she is benefiting from directly but also that any low income retired person will only benefit in a socialist policy country lol. It ain't republicans out to help her Plus I point out how in the country we are in, everyone said oh no let's vote in the rich banker, not the indigenous or socialists. So the guy did what he said he would thru campaigns.. oh we don't like that, you gotta go. Well Ecuador wanted a banker conservative, but it's really a socialist democracy more like Canada. These conservatives will sell your resources, remove regulations and stop funding your national healthcare, freeze minimum wage increases and onward You wanted a conservative banker until you don't. Now they can choose the socialist or the filthy rich guy from one of the biggest fruit producers and exporters in the country. 😮 Let's see how this plays out

I prefer to call it 'leakage'... trickle down still contain some implied willingness to let anything flow down. It's like how the British Empire operate, the Brits liked to think they 'civilized' the undeveloped world... but really, anything they did build, they build it only for their own ability to exploit colonies. If anything good came out of it that benefitted locals, it's basically because of 'leakage' they can't stop. The right likes to say even the poor in US have modern amenities, putting aside that they clearly don't count homeless people as people. Any one poor who even touch modern amenities, it would be due to leakage, not by some design. It also make them sound a bit incontinence.

@Larry Trickle down economics is the idea championed by utter fkn morons who also hold (at least the ones I've interacted with) firmly the belief - that those born into _not_ relative wealth and privilege, only have themselves to blame for lacking wealth and privilege. With that is the idea that any social safety nets and systems for universally accessible higher education, vocational training, paid parental leave, regular health checks, or community outreach programs, are imprudent government expenditures, unconnected to its economy, and properly viewed, are outside of the government's purview anyway. So, gutting that sht should be the goal. They are essentially advocating for a shitty version of feudalism, that can not work in any way in modern society. The modern day fiefs are massive corporations and their owners, from whom all the wealth will truckle. However, the modern fiefdom of a corporation and its owners aren't actually contributing to the royal coffers by paying their share taxes, as fiefdoms of old did, but they do enjoy the privileges and status of such fiefdoms. There is also the fact that almost all of them outsource their actual manufacturing processes now, rather than generating and sustaining localized economies... But that is besides the point. Trickle down economics is what truly stupid, shortsighted mega-rich dikwads push for, and is what truly stupid, shortsighted people who confuse the silver spoon of those dikwads for knowledgeable insight and earned privilege.

Also, if “Real Americans” like Sen Kennedy & other wealthier citizens, would stop spending so much time trying to avoid paying their taxes, and instead - like the majority of us, pay what is asked, the Senator wouldn’t be asked to do “everything” so much… because that’s what people’s taxes are there to pay for. She was direct and her "from taxes" answer was exactly what he wanted to hear. He got his sound byte. It's that he didn't stop her from continuing that was stunning, but again, he got his sound byte, so everything after that will be clipped out by Fox et al, and ignored when he and his colleagues scream about Democrats trying to raise taxes on the poor, hardworking "real" Americans. Pinning it down to simplistic things like her virtues just objectifies people and distracts from what's really going on. I might be wrong in why he didn't interrupt her, but direct answers followed by relevant context is more plausible, and more useful for how to elicit similar reactions in the future, than "put an intelligent, professional, beautiful and eloquent women in front of him and he'll shut up," especially since he's almost certainly been faced with plenty of others who fit the bill and not been stunned into silence by their virtues.

The federal tax dollars we collect aren’t nearly enough. *Republicans:* And where do you expect to get that money from? *Doctors:* Well, you passed a $1.9T and $1.3T tax cut. How about not giving the wealthiest people even more money they don't need, and I don’t know, end homelessness, hunger, and provide child healthcare and higher education to everybody... forever? And then we can figure out what we want to do with the rest of the $3T.

I mean, that's like the entire fiscal budget for Medicare and Social Security rn. If we cut defense spending and did away with those tax breaks, we could probably literally afford healthcare for everyone with no tax increase for the working class, but that's not what they want to hear. The amount of money we just hand over to people who don't need more money is sickening. If we taxed billionaires and even 100-millionaires out of existence, the things we could achieve for the average person would be damn near utopian. Nobody has more power and wealth currently than the US, so homelessness, child hunger, healthcare, and funding for education K-University shouldn't be an issue.

The sad part is that during the boom years of the oil industry Louisiana had so many jobs that we were awash in people coming here to work from other states. But pandering to the oil companies and allowing foreign built oil platforms to be imported and corporate greed meant less jobs and stagnant wages. Now the state is washing away because the Republicans refuse to make the oil companies repair the damage to the marsh. Kennedy is dangerous because he is smart like a fox and pushes the country bumpkin image to disarm his opponents. But we only have ourselves to blame!
