Your voice naturally gets nasally as you go higher in your range because it’s easier to sing with the sound coming from your nose in high notes compared to low ones. Many of the J trainees use falsetto instead of belting which makes them sound more nasally in higher range...

Yes, it's a style, especially in Japan. It's a choice for many of them. It's actually known as cute and if you watched the season, the couches made comments on it as a cultural difference to sing with half air or more, over a full voice. As well a nasal voice is highly valued in Korea for rapping, such as soyeon from season 1 (currently in g-idle), specifically in the Korean language, it emphasizes specific tones in the language making it easier to pick up the words. JYP also values the half air nasal voices, and has been noted a lot in for example k pop star (the competition show).

@@camibambi7895 i don’t think you understand what I meant. I wasn’t talking about this from a cultural point of view but from a grammatical point of view. I wasn’t saying if Japanese people have nasally voices or not. I was saying that you can’t have a “nasal” accent since by definition an accent is all about how you pronounce words whereas as a nasally voice is about how the voice sounds to the ear and the flow of air whilst speaking. So accent isn’t the right word to use linguistically speaking. I wasn’t trying to say anything about Japanese.

I think the problem with the Japanese contestants is that they were all from the 48 line, and they have huge amounts of members. I feel like if the trainees for Japan were pulled as individuals they would’ve had a better advantage. If you take a look at smaller idol groups such as BiSH,Watsuta, Happiness, etc. They have actually really good vocalists, rappers and even dancers. I also notice that they happen to stray away from the all members singing and actually give the members individual lines. I think they should’ve picked trainees for Japan like they did for NiziU in which they were either independent or from a company.

Miho: *sings nasal letters like "n"and "m" in the extract* Curry: she is nasal. It's all about balance, there are some nasal sounds you can't avoid... Usually when someone add to much nasality in their note they tend to be flat and unstable. Miho did have some nasal issues but it moslty happened when she had to reach high notes that she was scared of. I don't agree entirely with you but your videos are entertaining so I might subcribed. ☺

Let's be honest, Miyu shouldn't have been the lead for the final song. She couldn't hit the note at all. They had to mix in vocals of stronger singers to make the note good. Don't get me wrong, I was a Miyu supporter, but that decision made me stop. The main vocal really should have been yuri, haeyoon, miho, or chaeyeon.

i feel like i’m the only who doesn’t like Miyu’s voice... i was vocally trainer for only a year or so, so i know i cant say much that and i’m from America so vocal training is way different over here than in Asia, but Miyu’s voice is extremely thick that sometimes her pronunciation isn’t very well and you can’t hear which vowels or consonants she’s trying to say at times if her voice wasn’t mainly a chest voice (more so of a throat voice, where it’s in the back of your throat) then her singing would be absolutely amazing! her range is well also

(sorry for my grammars😁😁😁)

I think that you should have specified that you judge them based on korean criterias (nasal voice, good/bad korean pronounciation). Otherwise, they can be very good singers but you classified them low because of bad korean pronounciation and nasal voice.

That's what I'm saying. They probably aren't taught how to talk in Korean in schools. Unless they teach themselves, they aren't going to know how to pronounce it.
