This piece is actually a pastiche of three of passacaglias by Rossi: from the solo cantata "Pender non prima vide" (Oxford, Christ Church: Mus. MS 998:79ff); a very loose adaptation (B section omitted) of Euridices lament from Orfeo of 1647; and the solo cantata "Tutto cinto di ferro" (Oxford Christ Church: Mus. MS 998:53ff) with an added vocal part/text from Orfeo. Regardless of the minutia this is a very tasteful arrangement and quite moving. Made all the more so by the charming Ms Gens.

I love this music but didn't appreciate the lecture while the music was playing. also, why are all the instruments shown over and over while being played and the lerone is shown from the side and only partially? Isn't it as important as the other instrument? With it's being so rare, one would think you would show it off especially since it has one of the more interesting peg boxes.

I'm used to the sound of the original instruments, not to seeing them played, they're so "exotic". This piece is vocally extremely difficult and Mme Gens is not completely at ease everywhere; pronunciation could also have been more distinct. Nevertheless a beautiful performance, convincing
