As a bassist I had no idea the violin bass bar was called "bass bar" as well 😂 and now I know why it is called so, thank you!

A brilliant explanation thank you. It never occurred to me that a separate bass bar is glued in because a carved one has no in-built tension.

Maestro Kimon you and Olaf have inspired me to learn violin making. I'm slowly gathering tools and teaching myself by your videos.

Has anyone experimented with very small thin bracing bars that go across the grain of the top? This may help the vibration of the strings transmit sound across the grain as well as along the grain, as with a guitar for instance. It would also help resist the cracking of the top which is such a common occurance on older violins.

My opinion as a repairman: The word "EASY" is never used when building or repairing a quality instrument. Thank You for Sharing your knowledge!

There is no "easy" in my dictionary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the bass bar must be just right in my violin, because it has a very vocal G string.

This is tangent to the conversation here but do you have any videos (or could you make one) on how to properly clean a violin that’s quite dirty and how to repair some of the varnish that’s been work away?
