Replacing Valves on Inflatable Toys

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Due to request I have put together a video showing the simple process of replacing the valve on an inflatable toy. I upgraded the number 3 valve on an Inflatable World 3 meter shark with a large two plug valve. I then in turn use the shark's old valve to upgrade the Intex whale's number 2 valve to the shark's number 3. My glue in the video is starting to get old and is almost gone, so it does not go on as cleanly as it should have, but I still made an airtight valve replacement work.
While I love to describe the many projects I have done, if they inspire you to do something, you do so at your own risk. The glues and solvents I use can be toxic and vinyl is not breathable and can cause suffocation.

    Thanks a lot for your video...I was desperate, didn't want to throw my expensive snow tube, your are the only video I found on that subject, I used a valve from cheap dolarama kiddy pool for 4 CAD (I live in Canada)... I added extra step,I secured the valve with foil duct tape that I have in the house... Thanks a again

    Great video - This will help me out quite a bit - I had been just attaching the new valve on toys in question on the outside of the inflatable - of course not realizing that the new valve could be stuck on the inside - usually resulting in a fairly ugly and noticeable patch

    Great video gave me an idea to my problem. I need your suggestion : I have an air mattress that I lost the plug valve to. I don’t want to buy another air mattress and the local stores here don’t sell parts separately ..... what could I do to make a quick fix to this problem?? How would I make my own plug valve for an air mattress so the air doesn’t blow out. Thank you

    Thinking about upgrading the #3 on the Gryphon to one of these. Not too happy with the valve with the cut flap in her when she came. A very informative video. Just wondering where to obtain the valve. Have the same glue you are using, and some vinyl, however. Saw one of these 2 plug valves on an air mattress I just got.

    Hi, helpful video. Question... does the wax paper separate smoothly and cleanly from any stray excess glue?

  • @HeathDragon

    @HeathDragon

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Chuck T The paper does separate well. Even if it did stick, the idea behind wax paper is that the wax sticks and not the paper so that a thin layer of wax might stay behind.

    Informative and straight to the point. Nice video! I would like a bit of advice as I have an Intex penguin with a very small (2-3mm long) split on one of the foot seams, where the webbing is. I want to repair this and strengthen the feet a bit by running a bead of glue over the seam on both sides. The toy doesn’t see any more than gentle use and I think this would be sufficient. Do you think this is a good idea?

  • @HeathDragon

    @HeathDragon

    Whenever you have a split on a seam I would strongly recommend repairing it with a small patch of vinyl. Glue alone is not very good at repairing seam splits.

    Heath Dragon I will be able to get the HH 66 glue you used in this video but I don’t have any clear vinyl. Would the pre-cut patches with no adhesive backing work to patch it? I’ve had no luck before with the supplied sticky patches because they can’t grab the seam and don’t make it airtight. I would guess a non-adhesive patch with HH 66 would work a lot better, because it melts the two parts together. Thanks for the advice by the way.

    Often the local store will sell a glue and patch kit that includes both reasonable glue and clear scrap vinyl.

    How or where do you find large valves like this? Is there some other type of special name for it, other than "plug valve"? All I find Googling Plug Valve are industrial/mechanical looking objects; and I'm not finding anything in general looking for inflatable/plastic air valves - mostly comes up metal or PVC for plumbing.....

    +Piotr Romasz You'll want to look for an MEK based vinyl cement that states that it is a flexible adhesive.

    I believe that glue is a type of cyanoacrylate. You don't want to use that. You want to find some type of PVC or vinyl cement, preferably an MEK based one.

    If the inflatable is actually rubber and not vinyl then you would want to use a rubber based valve and a rubber cement like Best Test White Rubber instead of the vinyl cement I use in this video.

    I believe HH-66 is a U.S. brand. It can easily be bought online here. However, any MEK based glue should work well. Loctite brand vinyl and fabric glue should work well and is usually easier to find.

  • @mad81ace

    @mad81ace

    8 жыл бұрын

    a plastic plate or metal one would not take scraps from the glue sticking on the paper or other kind that's easy to rip or taken with the glue when timed from 5 o 10 minutes up drying and apply on the vinyl welding of the fix... Otherwise your always taking a piece of paper or something else into the toy or on to....
