Replacing The Rusted Out Rocker Panels On A '66 Chevy - Trucks! S1, E1

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

On this episode of Classic Trucks! hosts Mel Fair and Stacey David cut old rusty rocker panels out of a ’66 Chevy truck, and show you how to save money and a trip to the shop by welding in your own rocker panels and fender extensions. After that, the guys make a trip to Tellico to take on some downright dangerous and hardcore 4x4 trails. Once back at the shop, they show you how dress up your own SUV with fancy woodgrain inlays.

Watching this remembering my third gen Camaro is sitting in my garage with the lower control arms and rear subframe both inside the cabin, with the floors torn to pieces. Wish my rust repair would be this easy, then again I'm only 17 so I'm broke asf and gonna be doing the floors myself lol

It's amazing how far both mig welding and rock crawling has come in the last 25 years. I didn't see bead locks on any of those over inflated tires🤯

As far as the body work segment.... this was extremely misleading, unhelpful and just plain annoying. Doofus holds the outer rocker in place for 1 second, yep looks great stace 🤪👍. Those mini half inner rockers are crap and i guarantee they booger welded it to rust. This is what happens when you try to cram a few days work into 8 minutes

Yea, they also left out the part where they bent over the fender patch panel to the fender support. If you look close, the body line isn't as crisp as the original where the fender will meet the door. Also, I wouldn't go fully welding the outter rocker or fender patch panel without checking fit with the door in place.

I am not a welder by trade, nor do I claim to be an expert, but the fast motions you are using with the gun is never going to give you a decent weld. Slow is the way to get it done. leaves way less bubble gum to grind.

I used to have a 1981 GMC Sierra Grande and a 1985 Chevy Scottsdale 20 that my uncle Chris gave me when I was 12 and I wanted to fix and restore them to like when they came out of the factory so I waited till I got into high school so I could bring them to my high school’s mechanic shop but I was too late and had no other choice but to give them up because I didn’t have anywhere to put them and they were my very first trucks, I was technically the 2nd owner of my Chevy because my uncle ken was the first owner :Note My uncle Ken is my Uncle Chris’s uncle

Replacing one bodge with another, I know it’s only a crappy old American pick up truck but at least media blast the rust out before welding in new steel, Weld through primer and wax injection after painting
