Replacing the lower engine mounts 2.0 TDI bkd a3 at home using jack

Ғылым және технология

This is how I managed to replace the engine mounts on my Audi a3 Sportback 8pa 2.0 TDI, BKD engine code, DSG.
I am not saying you should do the same.
Unfortunately, if you are too brave and need the car the very next day, you might have no choice.
If you want to buy these parts, and replace them by yourself, beware! It is so damn difficult to squeeze them inside that metal part. YOu will need a special press....or you can do as i did :D. Use the jack and the weight of the car.
I tried with the hammer, ram the edges, use some rubber grease. Not a chance!!!!
I gave up after I disturbed all my neighbors around. About one hour of hitting that with the hammer!!! This shit is rock solid!
I quickly took the parts and had a run at the at the local garage. They were about to leave and they refused to help me.
I needed the car for the next day to get to work.
I was staring at the parts and I was so disappointed! I could not believe that I need to find a lift for the next day.
Then I came up with the idea of using the jack and the weight of the car as a press!!
"Screw the garage!!! I'm a genius" I said after I succeeded with the first part. :D
As a result of replacing the mount:
- Smooth spinning when losing grip
- Less shaky when turning on or off the engine
- Less shaky when driving or idle
Be careful when buying the parts. As you probably noticed there are two parts of this mount that are coming as a sandwich. They look similar but they are NOT. One of them has a simple hole inside and the other has a hole with a thread inside. Replace them one by one it is easy to maintain the position but is more difficult when you need to cut the second one.

THIS IS NOT MY JOB AND I DON'T CLAIM TO BE PROFESSIONAL. GARAGES IN UK ARE SUPER EXPENSIVE AND MOST OF THEM DO POOR LABOR. EVERY TIME THEY WASTE MANY DAYS FOR A SIMPLE JOB AND AS MANY PEOPLE IN UK, I AM RELYING ON THE CAR.
THE PURPOSE OF THE VIDEO IS PURELY INFORMATIONAL. I AM JUST SHARING MY EXPERIENCE SO OTHERS CAN HAVE AN IDEA WHAT TO EXPECT BEFORE TAKING A DECISION TO REPAIR IT AT HOME.
FOR THOSE CONCERNING ABOUT MY SAFETY, THANKS! I BOUGHT TWO AXLE STANDS IN THE MEANWHILE!

Too bad the lower half broke for you, this was a genius idea. These are quite hard to get pressed in. Done it in a press myself and was a challange as the plastic casing deforms when you try to press it in. I grinded the edges a little more so they would seek bether.

so i justdid this job and it is a real pain. I would strongly advise anyone that does not have acess to a press to not do it himself. Even with a press it is very challenging. If you want to do it yourself, buy at leat 2 of the lower mount because it is the one that will break and it is not very expensive. Then I used a piston segment compressor rigidified with 2 hose clamp at each end to guide the bush inside the subframe. This was not enough and I needed to use thin metal piece against the subframe to prevent the bush from bulging. Without the metal piece I still managed to break one of my 2 lower bush With this method I managed to press it in intact ( at least not broken, i still needed to grind both of them just a bit). Good luck if you attempt this one but I would advise not to

Now though my car is again off the road, the clutch master cylinder went bad, it's right behind the pedal assembly where the best access is to get the thing out but you still have to go the firewall to remove the fluid line connectors.. Nightmare of a job, probably about a 8/10 for difficulty, anyway it's done now but there are seals that need replacing on the copper pipes that join the master cylinder to the slave on the gear box, not good but they're on the way so hopefully i'm good to go when they finally arrive?!!

@@aqib2000 I get your point about drawing the line etc. but garages and the people who work in them, in my experience.. can't be trusted, for instance the clutch on my car was replaced near 18 months ago and ever since the clutch pedal wasn't the same. I know for a fact they haven't bothered refilling the hydraulic fluid running between the slave cylinder and the master cylider at the pedal end, so of course it's had air in between in the meantime then the master cylider has broken with the heat from friction with it being dry, you know what they say, if you want something doing properly, do it yourself!

@@briansmith9258 maybe, but one of them would still have the side that is thinner. Also, the thinner part might get squeezed out in the middle where the dogbone gets in.

@@RotaruCosminLeonard can you clarify a little? I understand what you say about the part popping out. I’m in the process of doing this right now. Been trying to press in from the bottom but I’m about to remove the subframe to install them.

@@briansmith9258 one of them might crack anyway. I guess you need to be more creative than I was. Please note that it's almost impossible to push one of them all the way to the opposite side. The easiest way is to push each one of them through the side that it closer to its final position. Please be careful with the one that has the internal thread, otherwise you might not be able to mount the dogbone. The one without the thread needs to be on the outside and the one with the thread needs to on the part that is closer to the engine

Well... sorry about this.my smartphone is my only camera. I don't have a GoPro . Even though it's really tight down there. The video recording actually firwt helped me to understand what do i need to unscrew to take apart only the piece that i need. I hoped it would be useful for someone else in the same situation as I was.
