Would a damaged gasket prevent the lock mechanism from properly and securely locking door? My deadbolt is operating as it should, however the handle lock is loose and my set screws are fine. The only issue I can see is the gasket is torn and had loose pieces floating around.

What is the part number for the "actuator"n the video above? Great video. My actuator lasted for 18 years. It broke tonight. I need one el pronto. Cn you work a miracle for me Mr. Anderson agent?

I’m up randomly(?) @3am.. Doom scroll to YT noti’s…🤯. I had to think back….. This was the beginning of Rona. I’m generally handy with tools around house ,vehicles etc. I got a referral for some punch list type repairs. This was NOT something I was comfortable ‘attempting’ without prior experience, + no feedback from “Mr Anderson 😎”….. So I declined taking a woman’s doors off the hinges ,with no certainty of outcome..there was other egress, so recommended she seek locksmith [Pro/Skilled]. Wish I could have helped.

it would be nice if they offered another handle and lock mechanism. doesn't everyone, and especially an engineer, understand that a round or oval knob( with a frickin smooth finish to boot) can be difficult to turn?? what were you thinking Anderson

+dana s haha havent had an issue with that but i do have an issue with my door locking with a sagging handle. 200$ later and about to fix my door in a house I just moved into / bought. Thats one issue with over engineering a door lock, too many parts to fail. There nice doors no doubt but apparently can't handle abuse and use.

I just had the door installed and it’s very difficult to lock and unlock. Home Depot sold me the door and did the install. We don’t like the door lock at all. It’s too hard to use... is there a way to adjust it?

I have the same issue with my replacement lock mechanism after the spring in our old handle broke as well. Did you find a solution to loosening this lock mechanism? Dry lubricant seems to only help for a few weeks.

Now, why the hell such weird hex measurements instead of a simple 1/4 ? I dunno why but those things easily loosen and in my place, one is gone. Surely, I could not find anything close to that so had to improvise... now the spring for the latch broke and I had fashion a new spring from a different one because I aint about to pay $100+ for a new lock when a 50 cents spring would fix... I guess it would be a $100+ spring fix......

Do they make an option to have a keyed cylinder on this?

Question for Andersen about how to properly operate the locking mechanism. Is it normal to hold up the lever and then flip the lock cylinder? Or, is there a way to set the lever such that you can lift it first, release it and then flip the cylinder? (The former requires two hands, the latter requires one hand to operate.) Much thanks in advance for your help with this. BTW, I nailed adjusting the 400 series hinges. It was a breeze once I figured out how the system worked.

I cannot imagine a better window system. We have had them in for 24 years. very little problem and great service. Too bad you grumblers don't live where I do.

After trying to adjust my Andersen Frenchwood hinged patio door manufactured before 2005, the top and bottom locks are locked and the middle one is not and I am unable to unlock the doors. I watched the video on how to replace the locking mechanism and I am wondering if I remove the doorknob and internals as described, will I be able to manipulate the locks so that I can open the door and remove the locking mechanism? I gotta believe I can!

OK, I'm impatient. Took the handle off and there appears to be no way to pop the locks from within.

@@kwenlu hi Justin, I ended up putting the whole locking mechanism back together again which was not easy given that you had to be on both sides of the door with the door closed to make that happen! So I got all the steps in order in my husband work from one side of the door while I was on the other! After doing that my husband be aligned the door over the course of a number of days and just eventually were able to get that middle up to line up. So we didn't have to replace the lock after all. Good luck!

not sure why they didn't honor their warrantee with you. i just replaced my lock mechanism on a series 400 door which i purchased 10 years ago....and they sent me a whole new system, under warrantee.

I feel the same way- my Anderson French doors will not lock- it is a security problem at this point. I called Anderson and the representative told me he could not help me unless I told him the serial number on the doors, which I cannot read clearly. I explained this to him and he told me because I could not read the serial number he could not help me.

Mine's a piece of garbage.. my doors are windows since the stupid mechanism snapped in the brisk winter.. I can't replace it if I can't get it open.. junk!

Your doors have given me so much grief over the years. The video helped me understand the mechanics but my lock wont fully engage at the handle and the handle itself falls in the downward position almost like a spring got screwed up. Feedback is appreciated. Sincerely, your customer 25 doors in one house... P.s. not to mention your windows.

totally useless for Andersen patio doors like this made and sold in the late 1980s. escutcheon and lock design is very different and csnnot be disassembled to repair/replace a broken lock mechanism once it breaks ... which typically will happen after the door is closed and locked. Now I'm really screwed as I can gert at anything without risk of breaking something else to get the damn door open again. New design is so easy to disassemble by comparison... really doesn't need this help video but the old one that I have badly does. Help Andersen!!!

Hi. I'm wondering what you did to get your door open. I have this same lock, which just broke, of course while the door is closed and locked. Not sure how to get the door open. Did you disassemble the lock?

The title of this video is misleading. I need to replace the actual lock and latch that comes out of the door to go into the other side of the door. This shows you how to change the lock receptors. I want to change the actual lock

That method doesn't really work, not if you have a crappy version of that handle hand where the alan wrench won't looseen

The hex screws under the door handles loosen easily. I hate these Andersen doors. Now my hex screw is stuck and will not even grip on the spindle. The inside handle just slips off. I’ve had problem with this door since I bought my house over 10 years ago. Definitely don’t recommend Andersen doors.

These lock sets are a disaster. How about making a simple door knob and lock. With dead bolt. There should not be 50 bs steps to open and close doors and fix these.

My hinged Andersen swing door lock wont catch, Handle always comes loose. To fix i had to drill a shallow hole in the connecting rid for the hex screw to stay. replaced door gasket after 2 years. caulking failing on sliding windows. wood swelling and finish coming off. fix is to send customer calking. Never buy another Andersen pr0duct. 🤧.

What the hell are you doing?!
