The white grease is Thermal Transfer grease, NOT Dielectric grease. The ICM (Bad Design) is bolted to a aluminum heat sink, which draws heat away from ICM. The grease is to help the dissipation of Joule Heating of ICM.

I relocated mine away from the engine. I feel it was helpful

That's not grease, it's thermal paste so the ICM can heat-sink to its mount. The ICMs usually fail when hot. Like if it doesn't start when hot but then does after it sits for awhile, that's a tell-tale ICM problem.

Additionally, you can take to your ICM to any Autozone, O'Reilly's, Napa, etc. and have it tested for free before buying a new one. Just make sure they run the test a couple times back to back to check it while it's good and hot, that's usually the only time they give problems. I've seen them pass the test on the first go but then fail the second time after it's hot.

I have a 96 Trans Am that picked up a injector misfire at idle since I replaced the maf sensor and I don’t mind it because it has unleashed a ton of power when I nail it and there’s no injector miss at cruise speed.... However it sets a 101 code from time to time and I just clear it for that month or so til it comes back....

I have a 96 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham eureka coach lt1. I'm having codes p0300, p1380, p1381, all misfire codes. And p0410, 1415, 1416, all secondary air system(AIR) system failures. I've read to delete the secondary air from manifold. Will that fix the random misfire codes because of a vacuum leak somewhere or something not working in the AIR system? Thanks!

Was watching your video to see how to put the new metal brackets on the coil, after drilling the rivets out. Just when you got to that point, you skipped ahead & I missed seeing it.

So far I hate these engines I miss my ls1 my Camaro has sat more than I’ve drove it for the simple fact it likes to die randomly while driving and won’t start for 45 minutes I’ve replaced the distributor resealed the water pump replaced the module and getting ready to replace the ignition coil again the fuel pump still activates when turned to on so I haven’t messed with it I had the gas lines replaced because they had melted where the last mechanic left them hanging in the engine bay. My 95 z28 has been a blast

that is not a grease so it won't get stuck, it's a thermal grease so heat from the head disappear😁😁 by the way bad ignition coil or ICM, cause no start, not misfire

Yep my icm went out and now it won’t start took awhile to figure out the problem thought it was my opti bc their was no spark coming from the plug wire but went around w a volt meter and found my icm wasn’t giving off any voltage

It rarely ever is the ICM or Coil. Usually it's a bad plug, plug wire or clogged injector. On these cars when people do plug wires if you don't run them right and away from all heat sources you can easily burn one and cause a missfire so it's always good to recheck your work. When the opti goes bad it's easy to tell because the car will run sluggish and have random misfires, might even be hard to start and have a choppy idle but it's rarely just a "single' cylinder that will throw a code.

You’d be surprised these icm go out a lot especially if u don’t put grease on the back they’ll over heat and short out

@@anthonycruz8011 so you’ll actually be able to pull the balancer off completely with the hub. You’ll need a jaw puller to put on the balancer pulley to get it off. I don’t know if there’s enough room between the radiator and the balancer so you might have to remove the radiator. After you get that off you’ll just drill the old bolts out and put new ones in.

Plugs were changed last month, checked the gap on them before I installed. I ran my hands along each plug wire while it was running, all fine there. It did storm really bad last weekend while I was gone and my car was parked at an angle. Possibly got some rain down the cowl and onto the opti
