The port that connects this external hard drive to my computer broke off completely. After watching your video and the use of a SATA cable I'm confident I'll be able to recover my hard drive information. Thank you so much for this video!!

Hmmm. I work on and have electronics since the 80s. I study and do alot. My topic for the sec now is the G drive. Little history for those to understand from me... These G drives I collect. I buy them and use them for me. I like the older ones though with the light full on front as # G Drive 0G02392 style. I tossed the though recent if I could redo a drive in that case. BUT.... Alot comes into play here. You can not just slap a bigger drive in a case depending on the named drive, case, and named holder. Along with the circuit board. I have not got around to this drive yet. I am about to start that after this vid. Because I would like to mod my drives. I take it this case for the named mostly takes a standard board in the back end. Thus- to put another drive in. I will be looking into a ssd and a hdd up size and this project soon.

I have the same drive but my PCB is built directly to the drive. And my drive was WD inside. Not same brand as in video. Just a heads up for Trenton if you try to shuck your drive.

Quick question, I have a larger 10tb g drive, one of the big silver units. If I remove the drive to insert direct into my pc will it read the data off like normal or would it corrupt or force me to format?

  • @DakotaBusy

If the drive is mountable and not having issues, it should just read it normally.

Any idea where I can order a new plug? My drive is fine, but the cord insert part is loose and will not show up unless I bend the cord a certain way...

I don't think you will be able to find just the plug. The simplest might be just order a new enclosure off of amazon like this one: amzn.to/2S3RIrX and install your drive in that. That link is our affiliate link if you want to help support our channel. Best of luck!

@@Jennifer.v not yet. I think something inside the drive is loose and needs to be tightened or something. I have no idea what it could be though, I haven't got around to looking. Aggravating though. Quality control issue for sure 😒

No. I didn’t have anything on it that was important anyways. I just wanted to keep using the enclosure and figured I’d document how I got it opened to replace the drive.
