Replacing the floor pan in a jeep cherokee 84-01 - How to
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This job was a total pain!! Replacing the rotted out floor pan in a jeep xj 2 door. In order to do this repair I had to remove the seat as well as fabricate a new seat riser for the driver side seat. I'm glad this job is done.

Aluminum combined with steel is an easy trap to fall into. It's called "galvanic corrosion".
Look into something called panel adhesive at your auto body supply. It's very good stuff, as good as welding. Glue in place, use sheet metal screws to hold till the glue is cured, then remove and seam sealer everything. Also por 15 is much better than the Rust-Oleum paint. Just trying to help, not knocking on ya. I need to do partial floors in my 96 two door soon

If you ever have any problems with the aluminum rivets. Just drill them in and weld the hole like a spot weld?? I thought it was good.
those aluminum rivets wont rust, but they sure will corrode. never mix aluminum with steel.

Nice work !
Doin the same thing to mine. I like the rivet idea. I may do that as well. Good video.

make sure you use steel rivets if you do go this route
Never use aluminum with steel, galvanic corrosion is no different then any other, panel bonding adhesive with steel rivets would be best. The adhesive will seal the seams from future corrosion as well.
Nice. My 01 needs all four floor pans and the metal rear cargo floor pan is gone too along with the shock mounts, which broke off. Fun to drive without shocks. Not really.
Thanks for the video, i subscribed
Hi. Nice job. Is that some kind of sealer along the back edge? If so, what is the product you’ve used in this job?
Can you tell me what rivet gun you used and if you pre drilled holes? I’m going to do the same to my passenger floor. Unibody’s suck lol
Just ordered my floor pans doing both sides I'm also going to use rivets. I'm also me using a hole punch with a flange from harbor freight. What kind of paint or primer did you use on the two pieces of metal in between the rivets
Nice to be able to buy a new panel. Not available in my country, and shipping from the US is expensive :(
Ty for this video help me out at lot
Man i need that pan!!
Where did you order your floor pan from and how much was it?
fire wall harness rubber plugs will work
Where can I get the floor pans ? I need driver and passenger sides. Also for a 2door
Where did you get your floor pan
looks good
how did you rivet to the unibody rail? did you have to drill holes through the floorpan and and the rail?
How did you put the seat mount?????
dissimilar metal corrosion. Always use like metals. Otherwise a solid job.
What size heads are on those rivets
How did the riveting hold up? We're there any corrosion issues with the aluminum and steel contacting? Nice job on the riser.

you bet your ass it rotted out again in 3 years ... this is literally the stupidest waist of time ive ever witnessed. im currently replacing floors in a jeep that had sheet aluminum riveted in ... lemme tell you just how much worse that made things.
Dreading this job on my jeep ima try n save it but I fear I might be doing what your doing.
Lol glad I just bought a grinder the other day.
Riveting the floor pan in..... not a good idea. Its welded in for strength 💪 now its gone. The uni body construction needs the floor fully welded to have its structural integrity intact to perform as designed in case of an accident.
Hey, thanks for posting. How has this held up over 3 yrs later?

Hey MrTanman210, Thanks for watching. I have a 2001. I did a google search for "Jeep XJ floor pan".
How did you get the steel away from the frame so well? I am having issues separating the rusted floor pan over the frame.

I barely got any rust in the middle section frame rail..only around it.. Should I removed that spot welded area as well or sand it well?
Did you caulk behind the floor pan before you riveted it on? i was thinking about doing that to mine. I was wondering what caulk to use. I done want water coming in through the gap between the pan.

Plan on doing this too my 96 XJ soon, any chance you know how long you took total? Plan on doing everything the way you did considering it looks amazing.

Hi Vexumy, Thanks for the comment!! I think it took about 10-12+ hours. I broke it up into multiple days so it's hard to say for sure. Good Luck on yours!!

Also working up the courage to do this on my 96 xj...its my daily driver so I really need to be done in time. Already bought the replacement carpet.
Did you just use a 4.5 in grinder to clean up the inside of the rail?

I don’t know if this is a dumb question but do you have to drill the holes before you rivet it ? Or can I just pop through

They need Pre drilled with the correct size drill bit.

You could've just googled "how to set a rivet" or even if you weren't familiar with that terminology, "how to install a rivet."
seat risers not on my 1992 or 1994 xj
What did u do with the gas lines while cutting the floors out?
@dickJohnsonpeter
5 жыл бұрын
Never seen any gas lines when I did it. They must be under the transmission tunnel or something. There isn't anything under the floor pans that you need to worry about.
What is the sealant you used?
@NorthernHome

Just some regular silicon
What did you end up doing to plug the holes in the floor pan?

zjcostello I found some 2.5" sheet metal plugs on ebay.
@eirikz24

morris 4x4 had them for ~5$ a pop. Which of course I learned 6 months after I replaced my floors.
on floor pan or just notch out a peace of metal then zip screw it
👍
Why don't you just weld them on? Its not hard to learn to use a mig welder and to buy a cheap one for this project.
I would of glued it as well but that's just me
Hah, how did you end up snagging the username KZread?
ummm...welding !
Junk yard for the plugs
