Good luck! It’s honestly not that hard, it’s just a bit difficult getting the old actuator out of the door because it’s a bit narrow in there, but otherwise you should be good! Also try and avoid taking off the exterior door handle because you shouldn’t need to, and it’s a paint to get it back in. Hope this video helps!

@@BrendonWagner ok knocked it out in about a hour. Found the part online for 35$ all in $50 shipped and tax. It is difficult getting the old one out. Some other video mentioned flipping it over and moving it around the window track that was for sure the way to go. Few things I learned and want to pass on 1. Like you said you do not have to mess with the door handle at all 2. Removing more of the inner insulation padding helps you get a better angle with your arm to get behind the window track 3. There’s 2 wire grommets holding wires into the actuator (I didn’t notice the one on the bottom). 4. With the white coated cable starting at the bottom and then going for the top clip worked best. Other than that my window switch cover was in there so instead of forcing it I left it attached and just propped the door panel near the door hinge area and leaving that one wire connection connected. Thanks for the content and i was not at all excited about this job until seeing your video. If anyone else is tackling this project don’t be worried about it..

Just fyi, this also applies to the e92 face lift. I have a 2011 m3 and it’s the same layout

Awesome, thanks for the input. The door handle seals actually have e90/e92 stamped into them even on the f30

Were you able to get the actuator out without removing the window regulator? I see several other videos doing this but also have seen people say it's not needed.

Everything I did I tried my best to film, I dont remember removing the window regulator and if I didn’t in the video then I didn’t. Taking out the door actuator was a bit of a squeeze but if you spray a bit of wd40 it slides out a bit easier

Did your new actuator come pre-drilled for the torx bolts that mount it to the door frame, or did you have to tap/thread the inserts on your new actuator? Thanks!

It came in ready to bolt in, I just bolted it in and threw everything else back together. No problem, lmk if u have any other questions!

@@BrendonWagner ok dope, I reused the old screws and it worked fine. Btw, the hair tie shit was a fkn life saver bro! I ended up in that same ass situation lmao, the hair tie trick fixed it in like 5 minutes lol. 👍👍

There's just one last thing that I'm trying to figure out, which is that now when my door shuts it seems to be pretty tightly shut, and the same goes for when I open it I feel like I need to use a little bit extra Force. Did you lubricate the latch or anything at all once you did this job? Maybe adjust the catch piece on the frame?

Do you happen to have the part number for this actuator? Mine won’t lift or lower the pin when I hit the lock button in the car or the remote so it’ll be time to change it.

www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-door-lock-actuator-motor-front-right-51217202146 That's the one I bought for my front passenger door, the OEM part number should be listed there. That's what mine was like when it went out, and replacing it fixed the issue I had.

Did you get your problem fixed? Mine does the exact same thing. Door handle works on inside and out. Just when i press lock, nothing happens.

Hi I hope you can help mate, my driver door handle does have any resistance behind it which normally clunks when you unlock open the door from the outside, the door unlocks and opens fine from the inside so the issue is just from opening it from the outside. The handle feels looser than all the other handles, I’ve removed the lock and checked to see if it’s attached which it is. I can’t figure it out

Might still be the actuator, for me I couldn’t open it from the inside or outside but replacing the whole actuator like I did in this video might be the best place to start. Best of luck!

@@BrendonWagner so I’ve just stripped the door and used in inspection camera. The cable that attaches so the outside door handle and actuator has snapped! It’s called a Bowden cable.

@@BrendonWagner order the cable and fitted it within a couple of hours, it was pretty tricky replacing it without removing the actuator fully.

The thing that comes out the top of the door panel? Mine just slipped right out of the actuator, or I might have needed to twist it out a bit but it came out pretty easily from what I remember

@@RandomVidz9_ Yes, however mine might have been loose because it's fallen off the holder a couple of times. At this point I left it off but it should just clip right back into place
