Replacing Rotted Slide out Floor // Passport Ultra-Lite

Sometimes projects just keep getting bigger and bigger! We were not sure the extent of the damage until we decided to remove the furniture and boy are we glad we did. This camper has been sitting for 1-2yrs under cover and can you believe the wood was still WET!
Originally we thought we would just replace the rotted area, well it was easier to just replace it all! The trick we found was to lift the slide out as high as you can to slide the floor in at an angle and just a lot of brute force!
Super happy to have the floor solid, we also did a water test with the hose and after 20min of running the hose we cannot find where it would have leaked. :/
Onto the next project! Thanks for watch folks,
Zach Manring

    @@SouthernGinger Nice, you now have a 5/4 thick slide room floor. You also saved the $6k the shop would have gladly taken. Also, I think they hold the camper hostage for 6 months. Not sure on that one, like you, I try to do my own repairs and avoid the shop like it was the plague. Cheers!

    Helpful, but all that I need to know. I am a 74-year-old, 150 lb woman who lives in a 36ft 5th Wheel that has water damage in the floor of all three of the slide-outs. I am fixing the water leaks, but my rotted floor includes the wood beams or whatever they are that hold up the floor. Everything is rotted down to the outside aluminum on the floor. How do I fix that?

    I just bought a camper for pernamant living 3 weeks ago and found out my sons room slide out is rotted. Its a flush slide out and ive watched so many videos but I feel like I cant do this job myself but I have to. I cant afford to hire someone and its just my 4yr old son and I. This video was helpful but still looks like the mechanics of the slide are different as yours stays sitting on top. Mine comes up from flush and in. Its a small slide, maybe 5ft but feel like I'm going to screw something up!

  • @SouthernGinger

    Nope it came out through the bottom without retracting. It's supported from the inside but it wouldn't hurt to add a jack stand or something to help hold it

    Great video. My question is when y'all put the two pieces of plywood together did you use something to hold it tight until the liquid nail dried off. 🤔 like some big oh clamps or how y'all did it?

  • @SouthernGinger

    @SouthernGinger

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yeah you totally could use some clamps but we also added floating tenons between them to give is some strength, not just the glue. Also we added another 1/2in on top once it was in the slideout. It's super strong now haha.

    Hi, this video was really helpful. I'm having to go through the same process right now. The floor in the pop out was completely rotted out on both ends. Do you have more details on how you got the new floor back into the pop out? I'm noticing there is a lot of downward pressure right at the transition between the pop out and the main cabin.

    So glad I came upon this video! In the same predicament with the same concerns. I can't afford to buy the domino setup nor justify it so I'll just go for a tongue and groove instead. I was gonna back it with 1/8" flat plate. What are the metal plates y'all used?
