If you use a wood block when working the aluminum flange shut you can reduce the hammer marks in the aluminum .
Great video - very informative. Redoing mine right now - I’ve had a few growing pains - but your video has helped me a lot so far!
Getting ready to do my 25ft Voyager tri-toon. This video helped change my decision from a vinyl wrap to replacing the skin itself. Thank you!

I considered a wrap as well. It's way more expensive and probably wouldn't turn out as good. Good luck.
A wood block is very helpful when hammering the aluminum back into place. Thanks for the video.

I really like moving it all forward 18”. Great idea! Thx!

Yes, it made a huge impact on functionality and bringing it up to a more modern look. Just make sure you have enough slack in your steering cable and electrical cables.

Turned out pretty good better than spending 20+ thousand on a new one.
Great job.

When you cut it, you can use a table saw. You use a 40 tooth blade (or so) and put the blade in backwards. Works really slick!

That's not a bad idea and it's probably not even that loud being aluminum.

Genius idea moving the fencing forward. Did you move the helm? Or leave it be?
Excellent, thank you.
Using a second thinner blade just in the corner areas helps those bend easier.

a little wd40 would help them slide in and out even easier
Graham! Great video. I was debating on buying an older pontoon (2008) but wanted to see what it would take to update. I did have a quick question though. Your upholstery looks pretty good (redone). Do you have any videos or advice for that process? Thanks.
@iveneverdonethisbefore8390

Hi. The seats have never been redone. It just gets covered any time we're not using it and once a year I apply 303 Protectant.
Fully enjoyed watching this and you took the fear out of doing it myself. So what size metal did you take out VS the size you put back in? I see sizes available at .032 so trying to compare before buying.

I am starting the same process for our 2001 pontoon as well. Thank you for the video!!! Did you glue the flooring down? I have a similar floor covering that has a foam backing.
@iveneverdonethisbefore8390
4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I got marine glue from the same company I mentioned in the video, but I believe it's readily available anywhere I just can't remember what it was called, sorry. I used a paint roller to put it down. I believe it also waterproofs the plywood decking.
great job, since the inside of skin is not as exposed to elements, would paint stripping or reversing the skin have been a workable solution for you? looks like you preserved the old skin without banging it out.
@iveneverdonethisbefore8390

The new skin is very affordable, I dont think repainting the old stuff would look good, or hold up.
Did you remove the railing when you put the new flooring down? Or did you lay in the carpet like a house installation?
@iveneverdonethisbefore8390

you have to remove everything.

Never seen a video like this one. Looks easy to do and much cheaper than getting different rails. Did those dabs of silicone help with the rattling? Going to be refurbishing my 1987 Flote Bote 240. Good video!
@iveneverdonethisbefore8390
3 жыл бұрын
I am not sure if it did or not, but I can tell you I had zero issues with anything, no squeaks, no rattling, no corrosion, nothing. I would do a few dabs of silicone just to be sure, however you could always squeeze some in after the fact, should you need it.
Thanks for a great video, did you make a video when you replaced your carpet?
@iveneverdonethisbefore8390

No I didn't, but I should have. I plan to make one this spring as I'm going to do another floor. I mentioned it in the video but in case you didn't catch it, I got the vinyl flooring from a company in the states.......... Sparta Carpet or BoatCarpetSales.com, same company.......I did a ton of searching to find the cheapest flooring and they are by far the best price and I believe their product is as good as it comes.

Graham Lake , thanks for responding, I found the vinyl in Ga. you recommended, and I will keep watching for your new video when you do it.. My boat has all aluminum deck, no wood..It takes a different type of glue..Thank you so much for sharing...
Many report that corrugated fencing does not lay flat once installed due to being rolled and the rounded corners do not like good, I cant really tell by your video? We just dont like the look of smooth fencing, your thought? Thanks
@iveneverdonethisbefore8390
Ай бұрын
I’m not quite sure what you mean but for my application, the sheet metal slid into channel at the top and the bottom of the fencing-rails so this was not an issue. but I would think the corrugated sheet metal would be flatter and less wavy that non-corrugated since the corrugation gives it a bit of structure.
Bom
Wonder if spraying the rail with penetrating oil if that would have made taking the panel out easier

Replaced it to update the look. It makes a huge difference when going to black. Painting would be a nightmare and wouldn't last or look good.

What you going to do with them they're long pant when you get done with them???? surely all that there's silicone it going to make them watertight. Might be willing to go as high as $ 2.35.

Why not paint instead of going thru all that work?
@iveneverdonethisbefore8390
5 жыл бұрын
I considered it, but I dont think it would last too long, probably wouldn't look great, you'd have to remove all the old decals, sand, prime, mask everything off. This way was easier, I assure you.
Instead of sliding it out, if you weren't planning on re-using the metal, why not just unscrew it and fold it out of the grooves and then bend the metal after its out? Is that not possible?
@iveneverdonethisbefore8390
5 жыл бұрын
I am not entirely sure what you mean but yes, if you are not re-using the sheet metal then you can bang it right out, cut it out, whatever is easiest. But you could also use the old pieces as a template for the length and height for the new pieces.
The grease is not necessary and will cause problems laetr. You're going to hve greas running n the panel.
