Replacing Our GoStream with an ATEM SDI and the BlackMagic Ultra Studio HD Mini

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The Osee GoStream was not the solution for us due to the NDI not being compatible with ProPresenter. We tried to make it work, but the NDI issue caused us to move away from that as a solution. This video discusses the last option I can think to try in an effort to get consistently, easy setup for our volunteers and weekly, stress-free live streaming.
Many people use the Decklink Duo which provides 4 SDI outputs. That tool seems to be great, but too much for our needs or our budget. The Blackmagic UltraStudio HD Mini is a great product that offers two SDI outputs along with a bunch of other features. This does connect using a Thunderbolt 3 connect (Thunderbolt 4 cables and laptops work properly as well). So let's dive in and talk through our final setup.

Thank you and this was helpful to see! I learned a lot from your x32 videos in the past, and it's cool to see you talk about the video side. Our church has been setup/teardown for 7 years, and starting next month, we'll have our own place, praise God! We're going to start looking at cameras, switchers, and cables soon. Great video!

Thanks for the encouragement. I don't dive into the video side much since it isn't my expertise, but I figure some of my heartache can possibly help someone else.

What JVC camera are you running?

We have the JVC GY-HM180. They are really great cameras and do well in most situations, but not as a back camera in our low-light environment. So we keep it up front and have the Canon CR-N500 as our rear camera due to the larger sensor and PTZ capability.

So are you using this black magic device to push two discrete outputs from your ProPresenter machine? Pardon my ignorance. My church has a new system with a PC running ProPresenter that is currently limited to 1 output… coincidence seeing this video

Yes, We have ProPresenter sending a regular output to our Projector through an HDMI, we use the ProPresenter app to send our confidence monitor to an iPad that connects to a TV for our stage display. Then, we are sending our lower third (live stream) output across the Blackmagic device. It provides two SDI signals out which allows us to send both Key and Fill sends from ProPresenter to the ATEM. Many will use the deck link duo to get these same four outputs, but the extra cost didn’t fit out budget and we have to run wireless for our confidence monitor so everything lined up to use the blackmagic ultra studio to support out two additional needed outputs.

I'd recommend staying away from those flat network cables especially if its not shielded....they might work but being that the pairs of wires in those cables aren't twisted, you might susceptible to interference leading to dropped network packets and slower network speeds. That flat cable might never fail on you but if the goal is to reduce your points of failure...that would be quick little change. It's that one day where it's laid up just in the right spot where it's next to a power cable or some other equipment where all of a sudden, your connection is degraded.

100% agree. The flat cables can get the job done, but I'd be concerned about the durability should they get walked over or heavy gear gets rolled over them.

This is a great point and will handle that tomorrow morning. I didn't think about the twisted side of the twisted pairs... or lack there of. Great insight.
