    Thank you SO much for posting this. Very helpful and very well done, with valuable pointers. Only thing I'd add (because I know my dad would tell me to do this) is to clean the debris from around the old fuel pump before ever removing it, then once it's removed, clean the rest that you couldn't get to originally. It'll help minimize the risk of something dropping into the fuel tank while you're unscrewing the ring and removing the old pump. Thanks again!! Really :) Very well done.

    Changed my 2003 Altima fuel pump with your video help. thanks for the info. A friend suggest to me to leave the engine running then remove the fuse that goes to the fuel pump and let it run till it is out of gas pressure. It worked had some fuel left in the line but no pressure and i then disconnected the negative from the battery. thanks again.

    The service manual says almost the same thing with regard to relieving pressure in the fuel line. (1) Remove the fuel filler cap. (2) Remove the fuel pump fuse. (3) Start the engine and let it stall. (4) Crank the engine a couple times after it stalls.

    Fuel pressure relief procedure without diagnostic equipment: remove fuel pump fuse or harness conmector of the pump and start the engine till it stalls. Then crank it 2-3 times and make sure it does not start. Thats the fuel pressure relief procedure.

    Thank you for your clear concise and well shot video. Your attention to detail made my project easy and fast. Note to others: While JD replaced the Whole Unit from Auto Zone, priced between $142 and $201 qt today's price, there are alternatives. I purchased the pump component alone, along with a new strainer and a few misc. parts that were not needed, for $20 on Ebay. I added $7 for fast shipping. The Universal Pump is identical to the OEM and was easy to swap. Just to add to your comfort, the part was 100% Guaranteed by the seller. The 2 or 3 day wait was worth the money to me. BTW: Nissan wanted $800 to install an Original Part and $600 for an Aftermarket pump. I was not smart enough the shoot a couple of photos to assist in the proper reassembly, but this video got me straight. Well Done

    good job brother.. not bad for your first one..only thing I would add is you don't need all the special tools ..you pull the fuse for the pump and let the engine use up the fuel in the lines.. always gunna have some bit of a mess no matter what..#2 .always.. always buy new seals ..you never want to reuse old seals..even if they look OK..a bad seal just might be the cause of the problems to begin with....changing the fuel filter at the same time is the best way to go..then always replace the filter at every tuneup ..your pump will thank you but you did just fine ..family hero

    Nice job. Except it didn't look the gasket got seated all the way. It was only half way in when you screwed on the lock ring. It might have gone all the way down when you screwed it on but you might want to double check. That could have also been the reason why it was difficult to get the metal cover back on. Also, it would have been a good idea to start the pump (ignition on - not start) with the metal cover still off so you could make sure there were no leaks.

    The gasket ring must always be replaced and you need to use the fuel pump lock ring wrench (part number J38879 so no don't just hand tighten it. Once tightened, start vehicle and check for leaks before closing panels back on. I promise you this guy had reoccurring issues on such a simple task.

    ... are you talking about the large rubber gasket, that he took off the old fuel pump? Why would you need to replace it, it only has one function, and when you tighten the large plastic ring, it compresses the seal to seal the fuel pump assembly 🤔 Where did you read about this? Thanks ✌🏼

    Hi I have the same car just bought it not too long ago the service engine light was on the guy said it was the O2 censor but it's not. I got two codes which are P0455 and P1448 I went to a mechanic who did to a smoke test to find out where the evap leak was coming from I took care of that problem but then another problem has popped up P0462 which is i guess related to the fuel pump. I changed the gas cap. The mechanic says he think it could be the fuel pump when he hooked his CPU thingy to my car when the fuel pump is connected it says 5.8 volts but when it's disconnected it's 0 volts idk what he was saying but I would like to know before you replaced the fuel pump did the service engine light come on? I know you said you were not a mechanic but I do hope what I am saying makes sense lol I just don't want to replace the fuel pump and that's not really the problem so can someone help me or give me some type of advice regarding this issue because i need to renew my plates. Please and thank you :)

    Danielle Nelson Hey, that code is for a sensor connected to urfuel pump. My light was on...but I had transmission codes. But u should just weigh your options. It is a used car right? I would go ahead and change the whole pump now to avoid issues later. If thats your only code. Also find someone else, get a second opinion...

  • @daninelson1427

    @daninelson1427

    I figured it was the sensor I was told it was the sensor but was also told that I couldn't buy the sensor alone that I would have to buy the whole assembly which is the pump. After seeing your video I told my husband that he can change the fuel pump instead of me paying someone else to do it. That's the only code I am getting and when I plug my scanner up that code P0462 would pop up and it would say fuel level sensor a circuit low. Autozone said it could just be wiring maybe something came loose or off when the guy changed the purge valve but that code popped up before he changed the valve and yes it's a used car. I bought the car from someone who I think got it from a auction or something. Idk

    You can put a screwdriver up against one of the ridges on the ring and gently tap it in the direction you want to turn. Use a hammer to gently tap the screwdriver. Once it's loose, use your hand to unscrew... like a lid from a jar.
