Replacing Elantra HVAC / Blower Control Module 2007 - 2010 Hyundai Elantra

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I'm changing out the HVAC control module in my wife's 2008 Elantra. It's a really easy job if you know how, so I'll show you how. You'll need a #2 Phillips screw driver, and something thin that is suitable for prying. I used my pocket knife as my pry bar, but a plastic pry bar made for car interiors would be better. If you also have a stubby #2 Phillips, it will make two of the screws a little easier. if your screwdriver is not magnetized, you may also want an extendable magnet, but that's totally optional.
Be advised: some Elantras have the "OFF" switch on the middle (fan speed) knob, and some have the "OFF" switch on the right (blend selection) knob. They plugs on the back appear to be identical, but I do not know if they are interchangeable. Our original had "OFF" on the right hand knob. We bought a replacement, and it had "OFF" on the middle knob, and the module did not work. It may have just been a bad module, or they may actually be incompatible. I have no way of knowing at this time. We bought a second replacement module that actually worked, and it's "OFF" position was on the right, like our original one.

I am having the same problem as everhome else that ended up here. I just tried the "hot under glovebox" trick and **@###!!! The A/C is now blowing!!! It's 2:45 am here and I just ran around my house looking for someone to tell, everyone is sleeping. Thank you, you are AWESOME!!!! I do know I have to replace the motor still, but I am so happy with my car right now, I may sleep in it tonight!!!

I just got done trying to replace my module. I went thru all the steps and the new module didn't work. All was not lost though, to my surprise I was able to take the old module apart by taking out the screws and then pulled the knob caps off of the module. I took some electrical parts cleaner/lube that I had gotten from Radio Shack a while back for a guitar amp project and sprayed into the opening around the middle of the rotary switches. I rotated the switches many times and everything loosened up. I put the module back together and plugged it up and everything works great! Your switches might just be dirty like mine were, good luck.

Many thanks for the video! Your first control module may have been DOA because it was the wrong part number for your Elantra. I had exactly that problem, and noticed that both your DOA unit and mine had the "off" position on the blower knob (center). The proper part for your VIN, and mine, has the "off" position on the top-center of the mode knob (right).

And of your ac blows only on 4 and not 123 then it’s a bad resistor which is an easy repair you only have to unscrew 2 philips head screws and unplug the wire from it it’s also under he glove box to the far left you might have to peel your carpet linen a little bit to uncover it but you need a stubby screw driver so it fits under there

I go through about 1 every two years, my fourth one just started failing last week. It makes me wonder if there is a known problem with these units. If your air starts turning on and off by itself then speeding up and slowing down, it's this unit that is failing.

If you have to bang under the glove box for your ac to turn on it’s a bad blower motor which is also easy to change on a 2008 Elantra it’s literally 3 screws and you have to unplug maybe two connections but the new blower motor is pricey ranging from 75 to 80 dollars

I have a question. I have a 2008 Elantra and the blower motor has been acting crazy. It makes a loud whirring sound, sometimes it blows soft, other times hard, sometimes it just won't blow at all! Also the A/C and heater turn on sometimes all by themselves, and I have to turn the on/off dial to get them to turn off. A year ago II brought it in for a diagnosis and a place said I needed a new "Control Head." I decided to live with it acting sporadically but then about a month ago it stopped again altogether. Several weeks ago a different place checked it out and said the blower motor is fine and it could be the resistor, so they put a new resistor on it and also replace the cabin filter. It did blow colder and worked for several weeks but now it is failing again. The blower motor was acting weird again, not blowing air or fast/slow/fast/slow, and now today it quit working altogether! I've been fiddling with the dials and although those little green lights come on, and I can hear clicking sounds, like something is trying to turn on...the blower is not working! So....I'm wondering if it could be the control module. Is the control module the same thing as the "control head"? Thank you, John
