Great video man, to the point, very detailed and no fluff. About to attempt this on our '08 Highlander with the same issue 198k. Preesh!

Mine is an ‘06, 115k. Lower ball joints worn and while replacing the left side, the left CV joint fell apart. Since I was already changing both ball joints I decided to be safe and change both axles. Left side was not a problem, but the ride side was a nitemare. The carrier bearing was seized inside the housing and there are 5 bolts holding it in place. After a couple hours of pinching, prying, turning and repeating the axle finally let loose. Got on the concrete and beat the housing off. Might add the right CV joint was broken too. I was getting a shimmy at 70 and had to drive 68 instead. I also constantly heard a crunching sound when approaching my driveway and curb. All good now. $200+ in parts, free labor.

I just replaced a rear axle shaft on a 2008 awd Highlander (not hybrid). The axle retaining nut on both the new and old shaft required a 1-3/16, 12 point socket which was a perfect fit. My metric socket set only goes to 32mm which was too small. I know the conversion table says 30mm is the same as 1-3/16" but it sure wasn't going to fit.

FYI - The wrong new bracket above is correct for the AWD / 4wd 2008 - 2013 v6 3.5L Highlander. Great to have this shot on your video to point out the difference to save people's time! You should be able to get either from any autoparts store - got mine from Autozone. Aside: Inner tie rod ends I could get a decent quality from PartsGeek. Moog had an error in their catalog and officially don't sell it. Hence you are told to get a new rack. I don't think so!

What do you suggest if the race stays stuck in that bracket?
