Replacing a Seatbelt: Dog Chewed it to bits!

My Sproker Spaniel, Lance, decided to have a good chew of my seatbelt!
Facing a £80-£200 bill, I had a look around and found that is you can remove the strap material and replace it, so I gave it a go.

Little tip for anyone working on seat belts - when pulling the belt off the reel, keep the reel in the upright position as it sits inside the vehicle, as they are designed to lock up at any other angles like for example it the vehicle is rolling over on to it's side etc. So if you can't seem to unroll it, just turn the reel to how it would normally sit in the vehicle then it should come out nicely.

Hi. Just found your channel. Good job with the belt. Don’t know about UK but here in Aussie it is illegal to sell 2nd hand belts because it’s not known if they have been stressed from an accident. There is only 1 company that is licensed to re-web them. Had to get one for my old car a while ago. What will stop the dog chewing it again?

Dog crate door on the dogs bed might be worth getting? He might not like it at first but a little doggy treat every time he goes in might help? Save you a lot of bother n won't have to worry every time you're away from the van for a couple hours.

I didn't know either that you could simply (or not so simply) swap out the webbing, nice one. Have you considered Lance a chew puzzle? There are many different levels which you hide treats in, they are aimed at keeping dogs busy, with rewards, but at the same time, educating them also. Would stop the urge to chew.

Yeah my grandmother trained police and army dogs. She couldnt recomend them enough from the day they first appeared on the market. I'e just used one to train my puppy to entertain himself with toys when alone. Start easy and make it harder and harder. Leave it with normal.dried dog food but standing up in water to soak it up. The longer you soak it the mushier they get and the harder it gets. More of a mental puzzle.

Get yourself a paintbrush and the hottest hot sauce you can find. Paint anything he can chew with it. It’ll stop that dead in its tracks (without harm)🐾🐾. Usually it’s permanent. It’s not sticky when dry... I have small inside dogs and we use recyclable potty pads. They work very well. The dogs are very good about using them. There’s always crating too but if he’s not used to it, it’s pretty cruel... , laundry might be a problem for travelers..

When my border collie started peeing where she slept I took her to a vet, slight kidney infection he said but it's clearing up now. Five or six months later she collapsed so off to a different vet. She had a cancerous tumor in her kidneys if I remember and had it for about six months the second vet said. I went home without my dog that day as nothing could be done, the tumor was so well rooted in. I don't mean to worry you but a second opinion earlier on could have possibly saved my dogs life for two or three years more. That type of operation is costly but I'd have paid for it! If it's a weak bladder, there's a treatment that's good but I can't remember the name. I hope your dog sticks around for a while longer, it hurts when they go I know.
