Replacing a Roll-Up Door DIY (Van Conversion E004)
Before starting on the camper conversion, I needed to replace the rotted roll-up door. What was supposed to take a few days ended up taking about a week :/

Thank you for creating this video. I will be replacing the door on my box truck and will be using your design. Extra thanks for showing the use of LifeTime Wood Treatment. Definitely going to use for my door panel prep... Keep up the great work.
although I'm not personally a fan of rollups in conversions (prefer swing doors), I think you did a fabulous job here!

The plan is to have a wall (with a swinging door) behind the roll-up.
Wow, great job!
Looks amazing...! If this is any indication of your build ... I’m excited to be watching 👍
Good results!
iGood job . I have a box off a truck that I use for storage and the doors are dry rotted . So I going to replace them . I put my self through trade school nights at a trailer repair company a long time ago . I was not sure the material to use for the panels . I did not know if I could buy composite material or just use treated wood . Thanks for the video .
Looks awesome
fine job with the door !!!!! jr
And! Nice job on the door build! I just purchased the hardware to do my door but I'll reuse the door itself. I'm having my 18 year old daughter paint something for me on the inside of it that I'll see when its down

@@SylvanSecrets she is actually in the process of helping me convert her own van. We are having a blast at it!
u whisper so i turn it up then you blast the tunes ouch!
I’m about to do a rebuild next week, this video is a godsend! The 15* bevel? Can you explain that a little for me, as far as which way the bevel faces, if it was every panel, just one side? I’d appreciate any explanation on that, that’s my only hold up right now.. thanks in advance!

So I did it on every panel on both sides except for the bottom of the bottom panel and top of the top. The bevel should slope down and away so that rain that gets between can shed outwards. If I were doing this again I'd make a steeper bevel than 15°.
How's the door holding up? I would have used the best plywood you could find as these doors rot pretty quick.

No issues. I definitely over applied the treatment, plus it spent a lot of time rolled up in "house mode".
Nice work man! Any tips re:spring/cable installation?

Get a second set of hands. It's incredibly annoying to get it calibrated right.

@@SylvanSecrets Gotcha, someone to take the blame when installation/calibration goes awry...great advice... Jokes aside, calibration meaning, personal comfort in terms of effort opening and closing door? Or is there a set, absolute measurement?

I did it by feel and haven't had any issues. You need it to open, not fly up. You also need to close it without hanging on it. For me it was a pretty small window. Both sides need to be tuned by wrapping the wire that goes to the bottom. It is tricky.
How is the plywood holding up? I need to do this on my box truck.

So far so good. No rot or moss. Still solid.
What is the R value of the board you have up for insulation? I have been torn between using board material like that but find higher r values in the general house style insulation
@SylvanSecrets

General house insulation meaning batting? Because that stuff is designed for 2x4 or 2x6 construction. You'll lose a lot of space. Pink board is probably the highest r value insulation board. Pricey though. I'm afraid I reused the insulation from the previous owner so I don't know the specs for it.

@@SylvanSecrets I tried looking during the video to see if it was written anywhere on it but didnt notice it. I did notice the thickness of most of the batting insulation was 3.5 inches thick and that would take away alot of space.

And thank you for getting back to me! I enjoy your videos! I love the split rear door design and will probably do something along those lines. Thank you again!
Yeah I was wondering why you were sending that by hand LOL
How’s it holding up after 2 years ?

@@michallec1223 go check Uhaul salvage yard. I bought 3 replacement panels there last week for $150. So much cheaper than what I've found through my search on Google.
