Replacement of Heater Control Valve on Ford KA

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This video is to help replace the worn or faulty heater valve on the Ford KA. I managed to find a Heater Control Valve (Intermotor) for the Ford KA (2003 onwards) from a trustworthy local auto factor parts supplier for about £50.00. The engine ran perfectly but the heater was on full even when the control was set to blue (cold).
Some of the old parts of the old valve broke off inside the hoses and needed removing with long nose pliers before fitting the new part. It is hard to push back on the hoses which must be pushed on fully before moving the clips up over the connection pipes of the new valve.
On checking the faulty valve solenoid resistance with a multimeter I can confirm it was a short circuit (zero ohms) therefore the circuit must have over current protection as no fuse (F17) had blown and the circuit works fine with the new valve. Probably a PTC Thermistor and just as well as the only in line fuse F17 is for the main battery voltage!
12V is required to hold the valve closed, no voltage to the solenoid equals valve fully open and continuously hot water to the heater matrix.

Many Thanks , that was a very good video. Just one point , for any future repair. When removing the electrical connection You only need, to push the spring clip and pull the connector off. On installation just push the connector back on with spring still in place. I have been down the same road, I hope that's helpful.

@@yuckybear5026do you think I could just screw off the new solenoid from the new part and replace that instead of having to physically disconnect the pipes? The new part just arrive today

Hi there, can you tell me from the thermostat to the HCV which hose connects to which side. I think I mixed mine up. I currently have the thermostat lower hose going to left of hcv and top hose from thermostat to right hcv.

Hi there, according to my information the right port (in) of the HCV comes from the far right end of the thermostatic housing and the return connection from the HCV left port (out) is to the second port in from the right of the thermostatic housing. So your connections look correct. Hope this helps.
