I’ve watched a lot of brake and rotor videos on KZread but this right here is by far the best I’ve seen 💯
Jim - you helped me and my buddy change his brakes. Both of us have minimal mechanical ability but your instructions helped us accomplish the job. We literally set up a big screen in the garage and paused it throughout the job. Thanks for all your hard work, great camera work, detailed explanations, and sharing all your knowledge and experience!
Thanks man! I appreciate that you uploaded this video. Not only did it help me replace my brakes it also helped me to implement preventive maintenance that I might have skipped. 👍
Thank you so much I was taught how to do brakes by my dad when I was 16 but he's long since passed away and I really needed a tutorial I have a 2016 Hyundai Elantra and I was able to get the job done completely by myself thank you so much for the amazing video
Excellent video and a big thumbs up for the close up shots. So many instructional videos have poor shots that leave you wondering just what was being done. Great explanations and attention to detail. Thanks!
Good video thanks for sharing. Your son is a very lucky person. To have you as a father. Tell him your viewers said so, lol.

This is the best video I have seen on KZread, regarding rotor replacement and /or brake pad replacement. Thank you sir!
Thank you sir! You just saved me hundreds of dollars! God bless you and the family! Good day 🙏🏼
Awesome job, Jim--what a great instructional video!!!...he shows you exactly how to do it right the first time.
Just wanted to say I just got done putting front brakes on my daughter car she's home for Thanksgiving realized she needed brakes thanks for your video got it done and glad to hear your heater works good😁
Great video. My vehicle used to have those screws that hold the rotor on. I stopped using them to avoid the seizing problem. Regarding the slider pins, I always remove them, clean them, and apply new brake grease. Always.
Probably one of the best DIY videos I've ever come across. Good video quality and excellent instruction. Wish i could give more than one thumbs up.

Thank you! Well explained
Excellent job of instruction and video performance. Just to mention, you might indicate folks should note the brake fluid will back up in the reservoir when the piston is pushed in. Thanks
Thanks Jim😊
Great tip about the pry bar.
Thanks for the video! Very clear and instructional. The only thing to say, I wouldn't push the piston back in the very beginning, because there is rust and dirt on the piston exterior, which will be pushed under the rubber protector. This must be cleaned. Thanks again for the video though!!!

I’d also add, open that bleeder valve so you’re not pushing all that old dirty fluid back into the line. Then properly bleed the lines and top the fluid off.
Great video. Thanks so much!

If you need to do a brake job on a Elantra, this video is the only one you need to see, it's not going to be explained any better than right here.
The "hardware" on tbe mounting bracket... Does that usually come with the pads? Or do I have to buy those separate?
Is the metal plate plate on the inside pad that the caliper piston pushes on supposed to be transferred to the new pads? I bought the Carquest Platinum Professional pads.
Do you recommend the use of loctite red on those 17 mm caliper bolts?
Hi, does the 5th gen Elantra requires cleaning of the intake valve (decarbo)?
Hi Jim, I just replaced the brakes on both if my 2013 Hyundai ELANTRA, of course my wife car everything went fine, with mine I could not get the driver's rear piston to spin back enough to replace the pads, the front I'm getting a scrapping sound at low speed that go away as soon as you step on the pedal, any idea what cam cause this
What about the brake fluid sir what dot should i use with 2018 model i m quite confused with that
Are the screw very important for tge rotor? I've seen a mechanic forgo the screws. Because while the rotor gut exactly. The screw holes did not line up.
My 2009 Honda CR-V’s electrical system shorts out for less than a second causing the dashboard lights to turn on as it does momentarily upon starting my vehicle. At the same time the headlights and rear lights all turn off for the same one second period. I noticed this only happens when the engine fan comes on. Can you offer an opinion as to what the problem might be? Alternator, a belt, battery, fuse? I appreciate your videos and look forward to seeing more of them.
Oh my a claw hammer! Thought maybe I was watching your home repair channel and no kneeling pad! Haha! Great job as always Jim!

Hi Lon I hope you are doing well.
Do you have to bleed brakes after job done?
Jim, your son is lucky to have a father like you, taking care of the vehicle. So hard to find a good mechanic or even one that cares about quality! Good video Jim! Such a pleasure to meet you at TST, though we didn't get much of a chance to talk. Hopefully next time!

Hopefully we can talk more at the next meet up. Your right it is very hard to find a good mechanic. I think the whole group that was at TST are some of the best mechanic out there today.
Just did the brakes on my 2012 and the slider pins on the driver side bracket are TOTALLY frozen in place. Had to order a new bracket; just fyi, the bracket is not listed separately, but is included with the caliper.
Do u have to replace rotors at all times? Or what’s best way to tell if rotors are still good?
I stripped all the screws for the front rotor what do I do to get it off
Good man, working on ya boys brakes, where is he? Med school? Ty!
Спасибо отец!
Your just like a DIY guy working on the ground with cardboard. Not bad though. Clean and organized garage with heat and the kitchen not far away. Nice.

I can't get the piston the go back in. What do I do?

Do you not need to bleed them???
you need to use brake hard ware lube on the hard ware so caliper pins move easily

Thanks for the video. I tried everything to get one of the rotor screws out and ended up stripping it. Is the best way to deal with it now to drill right through it?

@@jimthecarguy is it necessary to even use screws to secure the rotors? I went to an automotive centre and they said they don't sell them and when they replace rotors, they don't even use screws.
I noticed when you put the rotor back on you sanded the rust off,but forgot the anti seize.
Jim - Thanks very much for this superb and detailed video including all the thoughtful tips!! One thing I pondered was regarding some little metal tabs that are riveted to the back of the inner front pads of some old and new front pads - with respect to whether that tab is supposed to be oriented toward the top or the bottom. Perhaps these are built-in anti-rattle clips and that it may not matter whether it's at the top or bottom, but in the case of the new Bosch pads I got if you reverse the right and left it governs whether the tab winds up on the top or bottom - implying there is a proper position. In other words, the inner pads are different right vs. left. Looking carefully at your video around the 6:25 mark we can see that tab sticking out at the top or your old inner pad, and it seemed that your new pads did not have the tabs at all, or they were much shorter. I verified the top position by looking at a Bosch video here kzread.info/dash/bejne/rKmu0bWCZJW8fMo.html at the 8:06 mark. So I chose left and right so that the tab is at the top, hope that is correct. My pads came with a diagram, but it's woefully inadequate to figure this out and so far internet searches don't seem to mention it, and no way to know from my old pads because they didn't have the tabs at all. I could send a picture but not sure I can include that here in the comments :-) Okay, job well done - thank you.
Hi Jim, Great video, thanks for sharing your knowledge. I just got a Hyundai Tuscon with an electric parking brake (bad idea IMHO) If you could ever do a video dealing with brake service on those rear calipers it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for your videos. Big fan here !

Check out this video I did on a VW . The procedure is almost the same. Thank for watching and subscribing. kzread.info/dash/bejne/lnWI15VqmbLIhto.html
You forgot to turn the steering wheel to the left to expose the rotor and get an easier access, hehe.. it's very helpful nonetheless!
Does this process also apply to rear brakes or are there other considerations?
@jimthecarguy

It is different. Check these videos. I hope they help. kzread.info/dash/bejne/q3Wf06hrcq3TnJM.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/pmGAt7OTZ6WsmM4.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/oKKExsSqfprRf5c.html
What about bleeding them
You can blow out your brake booster moving caliper back in without taking brake fluid lid off.
The bottom is not accessible in my 2010 elantra touring . It's hidden behind an arm from the suspension
