There should be three little ball bearings on the end of that plunger that you took out that shifts it

The secret. Coat the inner flat mating surface on carrier (the end towards the o-ring) with Permatex #3 aviation sealant. Old housings are so beat up, those o-rings need extra help.

I use loctite aviation sealer.

@1philliph same thing. Stuff sticks to EVERYTHING and nothing gets it off. One bottle is like a lifetime supply. To think they used to use the stuff instead of head gaskets.

why seal the outer bearing carrier to the case... it's wide open. seal the inside carrier.. the one you greased...

Do not do this. if you glue the barring carrier in it wont ever come out again. And the silicone isent sealing anything where he put it. Remember to lube your o-rings and always use new ones when servicing parts. (They are very cheap)
