Repairing and Removing a RV Slide-Out FINISHED!! part 3

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here it is, the last video in this series. While I do run into an issue at the end of course, I think we did get everything done we were asked to do. I modified the owners carpeted shoe and re-built the slide hopefully a little better. I also had to re-build the cylinder myself because driving around Phoenix for 2 days, I could not find a shop to do it.

Thanks for making a part 3. It is no fun when you need to fix things so you can get at what you originally said you would fix. Thank you for being a dedicated person, sometimes it is hard to be that way but you are a good example for the other people you work around. I saw to many people that would give up on anything hard, still do, most of the auto mechanics I know do not want to work on rusty things, I keep telling them they need to move south then. Stay safe and healthy James.

Thanks for that video. The bedroom slideout on My 2016 Fleetwood Bounder came out on its own (ya I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t been there when it happened). Anyhow I was parked in the storage lot along a fence line. The slideout made contact with the fence. Bent something because it now has about the same gap at the top as the one in your video. It makes a whole bunch of noise now. We went all summer without extending it. Took it to the factory in Decatur IN They said the whole slide needs to come out just to diagnose what’s wrong. Not going to be cheap but my biggest worry is that it’ll never be quite the same. And hopefully the technician doesn’t screw up my wood trim and flooring. That’s my baby! Your video gives me hope.

Glad that you got through the job. I replaced the large slideout (13’ 3”)in my 2010 Holiday Rambler Endeavor, which took me about a month. 2 days later, we went on a ~5000 mile trip, visiting 9 National Parks. I used 1-1/8” sheathing from Menards, 0.060” black abs plastic on the bottom and scarfed two pieces together, using epoxy. To keep things square, I ended up using 8 screw jacks to keep things in place and lift the slideout floor into place.

I forgot - I used 3/4” black Velcro to hold the trim pieces to the slideout opening and it worked great.

    1. I'm glad to see that RV looks exactly like mine in the process of fixing/re-engineering, scattered tools and RV pieces trim tools and flooring boxes all over. I must be doing it right. 2. Thumbs up for the Prius and the head flashlight. I used my Prius in the oilfield and drove 200 miles a day in it loaded with tools and supplies. Also have worn out many many head flashlights. 3. My wife has been telling me for years slideouts are bad news. I didn't listen this last time so I only have myself to blame. However the seal and hydraulic system on my Keystone Everest was pretty good. The schwintek in wall system and seals I'm dealing with now however are so bad it's hard to believe it was widely deployed. But I guess that's RVs the more you take them apart the more it's hard to believe a lot of it is done the way it is....

Can I have your opinion on deleting a slide out? I have a 35 foot Dutchmen 5th wheel with a 14 ft slide. The slide is totally ruined with water damage/mold -- roof, floors and walls. What I want to do is just leave the slide closed permanently so I only have to fix one wall. I want to cut the other walls/roof/floor off, maybe add support wood to the top and fasten to new frame walls I will put in the main room. If I had to, I could bolt the slide rails to the main floor for reinforcement and build a platform over them or something. Is this a feasible option in your opinion? I don't need the slide out, the extra 2 feet it provides is not worth rebuilding the whole thing and waiting for it to leak again. I have to gut the whole rv and rebuild everything already, so I don't want to waste more money and time on this stupid slide-out I don't use anyway! Thoughts?

Heat and gentile scraping. Adhesive remover for any residue. Gas is a really good adhesive remover but it's flammable so no smoking or sparks. Blow dryer, start at a corner. Try to remove in one piece of as few pieces as possible. Heat guns can damage paint, so if your an amateur, stick to a blow dryer. Slower but safer.
