    Still relevant in 2022. Just fixed my old Whirlpool today in less than 10 min and the parts costed me $3.18 with tax. Got the universal agitator dogs from Tribles Appliance less than a mile away. The wife wanted to throw out the machine and get a new $600+ one, but I said, let me check KZread like I did last year when the clutch (a $15 fix) went out and the machine won't spin cycle. That was an easy fix too. Total out of pocket for both was less than $20. Works perfectly now

    Good video! Easy to follow! I just did this repair to mine at home. I have an 80 series washer. I ended up replacing the whole cam kit on it. When I did my repairs I pulled the whole agitator out so I could clean it really good. The kit was $25. The good part is the person at the parts store I got the cam kit from told me that they are still manufacturing parts for these washers so repairing them will still remain cheap. I had a little talk with my neighbor and they told us that they have been through 3 washers in the last 10 years. Mine is over 20 years old with only little repairs to be done. In all, I have had to replace the pump at the bottom, the cam, the lid switch and adjust the timer switch over the last 20 years. If they still made these types of washers I would buy one in a heartbeat again!

    Just repaired my Kenmore model 110 from 1992 THAT STILL WORKS. Second set of agitator dogs ive put in. I won't buy a new washer because they dont have traditional agitators anymore. Kenmore products last forever. How Sears and Kmart went out of business had to be bad business management.

    I thought we were facing replacement or an expensive repair on our 20 year-old Kenmore Model 70. Amazingly, I found a bunch of videos on the problem and this one is an exact match. Counting the extra time cleaning all parts, we're talking 30 minutes. Our Dogs were far more deteriorated that yours. Thanks!

    my washing machine is at least 20 years old, so i've had to replace a couple different parts lately. i'm surprised by how much plastic the manufacturers use to get snapped or eaten up. i sort of think its so suckers end up buying a new machine instead of spending $3 to fix it themselves. its stuff like this that makes me thankful for the internet

    @@danielfitzgerald9008 Nope. The suckers still lose the difference between the cost of a new machine and a $3 part, and the value of their time having to deal with replacing something that would not have broken for years if the manufacturer had put in a correctly engineered part. When I find a poorly designed part in a product, I skip that manufacturer on the next go-round, so they lose my business as a result.

    Thank you so much for creating this video. I can now feel more reassured I'll be able to put the agitator back on now that I've taken it off. I can't wait until the part shops open tomorrow and I can buy the agitator dogs. I want to fix this machine so I can win fight with my mom. My mother and I have been arguing about what to do regarding my washing machine that worked but the agitator wasn't turning properly. She kept on telling me to buy a new machine since my Kenmore is now over 10 years old and appliances are only supposed to last 10 years according to planned obsolescence 'rules'....consumerism is her mantra. I've got more of an environmentalist leaning, and I don't have time to research, then shop for, and then take time off of work to wait around all day for the delivery of a new machine. I'm making my kids watch me fix this machine so they are not going to be part of the generation that throws out everything because no one knows how to fix anything anymore,. Also to show them that a mom can fix stuff....my husband's contribution to this so far was that he noticed that the agitator wasn't working, shrugged his shoulders and told me to do something about it. By the way, in your video, why didn't you wash off the gunk build up on it before you replaced it? I did this with mine hoping that this will further prevent the dogs from slipping. I also pulled up the lower portion of the agitator off to clean that too....lots of gunk built up over the years in the inside of the bottom of that part.

    You're welcome and I'm glad you've found my video helpful. I, too, have long believed in keeping machines out of the dump and scrapyard as long as possible. I think 20 years is a better guideline for the life of major appliances and I have personally seen them last much longer. You are going to win that bet and thanks for the excellent comment! Oh, and I didn't even notice the gunk...but that's just a guy thing.

    So I need to comment.. all of these show a 7/16 nut holding the agitator on, well I must have a one of a kind series 80 kenmore.. mine had a Plastic nut with a 1/2 inch drive square which held down a spring over the drive to allow for a floating top agitator piece.. maybe you can cover that including the removal of the plastic sleeve retainer over the hub that holds the dogs in place.. I'm sure there are many more like mine that people need some direction.. BTW once I figured how it came apart it took less than 10 min to repair I do appreciate your videos as I used one for the lid switch..

    I know. Mine looks very corroded and rusty almost like it would break if I started turning it. I would say it may have to be broken off and replaced with a new one. I seen where they have a “new kit” on here for washing machine agitators and it includes a new bolt w/ washer, a new black o’ ring where the fabric softener lid comes off underneath, a new part for the entire agitator as well as the bottom so I’m going to look into that because I’ve a feeling my bolt/washer along with every other piece may need to be replaced. Good luck.

    If the agitator still doesn't just come off and you're sure there is another bolt that your specific washer has, and of course, noone is aware of. fight the urge to go searching for other agitator removal videos and play them forwards. Backwards and forwards again the truth is that in lieu of the obscure bolt that doesn't exist, most likely it's rusted into place. You can use WD40 to break lose the agitator. Spray it liberally down the thread pattern area and let it soak in. finally add some elbow grease and it should break loose. Good luck!

    Try a smaller socket, maybe a metric size. Use some WD-40 or PB blaster first.

    Well, yes. But that only involves one 7/16" nut to get it apart, at least on the model I worked on. There may be a few differences from model to model.

    My agitator does spin, but there is some water at the end of the spin cycle and the clothes at the bottom are drenched in water. Would this problem be solved by replacing those 4 little dogs? Thank you ahead of time.

    No, you have some other kind of problem- maybe a plugged drain sump or problem with the drain pump.

  • @midnightprayer5784

    @midnightprayer5784

    Thank you for that answer, may I ask is the drain pump a part of the washer or does it have anything to do with the pipe that goes out of the washer, I'm assuming causes the water to be carried away from the washer by. I shook it the other day and then the next load of laundry didn't leave any water. So then I washed some bath rugs and the weight of them plus water wouldn't drain and left them soaked with some water in the machine, I shouldn't wash rugs in the washer, I didn't know that before.
